One of my worst fears is that everyone will assume I’ve stopped working on the game because I haven’t updated in X days, or added a new feature in X days. I wish that every two-week period could result in a new feature…but sometimes, it’s necessary to spend time on prototyping and research, instead of developing new content.

Oh! don't worry Alex. Those people are already gone since the day you didn't give them Osana....OK I might be wrong since your patreon down by 40  (but got $300 more, when compare to Oct which got the same numbers, I might add)

Also now the "spend time on prototyping and research" is gonna be his new excuses for not actually doing anything.

When I play a Hitman game, I am constantly saving the game before taking risks, and reloading my saves whenever something unfortunate happens. Being able to save and load at any point in time is crucial to my enjoyment of the game; if I wasn’t able to save and load at any arbitrary time, I would probably be far less interested in playing Hitman.

It's funny because in older Hitman games you have limited saves, unless you play on the easiest difficulty. Alex proves once again that he sucks at games, heh.

"I checked the Unity Asset Store to see if there were any pre-made save/load systems that I could simply purchase and drop into the game."

I love how the first thing that came to his mind is "How can I get this" not "How can I make this"

That’s pretty normal tbh, but usually if you buy something code-related it’s just a starting point rather than a full solution and takes several hours of configuration and rewriting to get it to work in a way that’s suitable for the game and properly talks to your established code in an orderly fashion that blends with what you've already got (also a lot of the code on the store is godawful student github quality and sometimes you have to rewrite most of it, which is the worst).

I’m kind of surprised he actually did (most of) the proper research on savestates, although he still doesn’t realize what a colossal bitch they are to deal with in practice. I hope he enjoys digging through his pathfinding library to figure out how to expose its metadata/state in a form that's serializable, as well as physics and every other major system he buys that wasn't intended to be serializable.

Because of this, it would probably be wise to implement a save/load system last; otherwise, I’ll constantly be updating the save/load system every time I add a new feature or tweak an aspect of the game.

Oh my god alex you dumb fuck you literally have a billion "IsStudentWalkingUpTheStairsWithAKnifeInTheirHandAt4PM" variables for each student and C# has a built-in reflection for very easy serialization of an object's state.

There are hundreds – actually, thousands – of different things that the game needs to remember in order to perfectly re-create the school as it was when the player saved the game. And, in order to implement a save/load system, I’ll have to manually tell the game each thing that it needs to remember!
Knowing Alex, he as a big ass fucking string-addressed hashe table where he makes an index like "Student43023HasHealthAndIsRunning" and has a massive "WriteSaveFile(Dictionary)" function along with a "LoadSaveFile(TextFilePath)" that manually goes into each index and puts it through 9000 if-statements to try and recreate the scene.

Because of this, it would probably be wise to implement a save/load system last
Here's to another year fellas.

To be serious, i don't like how features in YS way too simular to hitman gamepley. Hitman is a professional killer who killed many-many people and gameplay in a game helps to imitate a professional. YanChan is a young girl who just becoming a serial killer, and it's fine and predictable for her to mess up killing. The most interesting part in YS letsplays is when letsplayer messed up his plans and improvising.
Eh, I agree with him on this point. Minimizing how much the player needs to redo/wait when they mess up will prevent them from betting frustrated. For example, super meat boy was intended to be a difficult game, but when you die, you respawn immediately to keep the inertia of the game going.

Sure, a lot of old games do limit where you can save and other things, but it’s considered an outdated design choice. For example, lives systems in games don’t make a game harder, they just give the player more to lose when they die, requiring them to redo large portions of the game to get back to where they were.

I think saving in the room would also be a valid choice, but it’s whatever he wants to do. I don’t think either decision is a stupid design decision. If people want to live with their mistakes, they can just save less.

Overall, not too pessimistic about this journal, since he did his research and also realized copying resident evil’s inventory wouldn’t add anything to the game.

Personally, I'm very conflicted about this update. I do really like having a save/load system (since not having it would make the game virtually unplayable unless you have a walkthrough) and it fixes one of the biggest issues I had with the game's design - How you have no way of knowing how to eliminate a rival unless you play the game over and over again to learn their pattern, especially if your goal is to not actually kill them.

And that's where my praises end. As good as having a save/load system is, being able to save anywhere creates an entirely new problem - save scumming. One of the main gimmicks of YS is how you constantly interact with the same people everyday, and if they see you doing something suspicious, they'll remember. But now you can just wipe their memories and essentially remove any penalty for being careless. This also destroys the school atmosphere gimmick, since if they don't remember any murders occurring then they won't be paranoid. Clubs like the photography club become trivial as well, since they won't follow you around anymore. Got beat up by the delinquents? No problem, just reload your save and beat the shit out of them next time. Got suspended by the counselor? Pfft, she was a thot anyway. Did someone see you commit murder and call the police? I'll just make sure to murder somewhere else.

Tl;dr - Rip half of the gimmicks and challenges in YS.
If people want to live with their mistakes, they can just save less.
Yeah no sorry this isn't good enough. I shouldn't have to set rules on myself to not use every advantage I have, especially in a game that's as difficult as YS, and especially if it's my first time playing and I have no idea what to do. People have no self-restraint, they will save scum even if they're aware that it goes against the intended experience of the game.

It's funny because in older Hitman games you have limited saves, unless you play on the easiest difficulty. Alex proves once again that he sucks at games, heh.
And in the newest game the hardest difficulty limits saves. Guess he plays on literal "Casual" mode.

Despite claiming many, many times that he's not the same person as he was in his Evaxephon days (which is obviously untrue), he once again proves that he hasn't even let go stuff like his comparisons of RahXephon and Evangelion.
Truly poetic.

Never change, Eva. Never change.
He also has clearly shown he is the most unoriginal person in the world, his old username is just two random animes and his current username is a random anime trope. Can't even think of a single word that describes himself.
And in the newest game the hardest difficulty limits saves. Guess he plays on literal "Casual" mode.
So a weeaboo plays an actual fun game, plays on the easiest difficulty and clearly resets every time someone so much as glances in his location, and tries to make a game based on that. No wonder Yandere Simulator is so terrible.
