"Alex released Osana"

I'll be honest, this was the first thing I saw and I did a double take.

And of course it's not out just yet. It'll be in the next build and he has to make a few tiny adjustments to her, he promises! For real, this time! He swears!

Jokes aside, I do think that the build with Osana is going to be next, assuming the trello he posted is true and he's not just dicking around as per usual.

It's a bold announcement, especially for someone like him.

That checklist is so funny to me. It's like when a teenager uses big words on their homework to appear smarter than they actually are. Like 6 of those could be coupled into "working title screen".

I also bet he is going to release a lousy build with Osana and then announce a break because "it was a giant leap for humanity" and now he needs to rest.

And then he'll curiously (and unsurprisingly) stream for hours the very next day after Osana gets released.

Kickstarter should fucking ban stretch goals. They are always the death of a project that goes massively over the amount of money asked for,and suddenly the develops has to put a ton more complicated coding that he never intended to do until well after the game was completed if at all. Dev either freezes, hires a bunch of programmers, throws them into a 'development team' and watches the money drain away, or tries to do it all, and can never complete the original project at it's original planned scope because of all the code he has to keep adding, the game is never released, the dev does a flip or just takes the money and runs.

Stretch goals BAD.
The main problem with stretch goals is that they are often too low for what they promise. Usually, the main amount is not enough to finish a project, and the difference between the stretch goal and the base goal is not enough to implement the stretch goal. These shortages add up, and if there are too many stretch goals, we get a Star Citizen.
Kinda superficial but I find it funny how the YanSim launcher intentionally slows down update checks to make them "more noticeable" (on this commit it was 750 ms but it's currently 500)
Artificial wait is a common UI feature, because it makes tech-illiterate users to trust the programs/websites more.

Was thinking about that after I posted and feel pretty dumb now, thanks for clarifying.
Yeah, it's common because if something happens instantaneously you will think "that can't be right! Such a task would take longer!" I remember TurboTax doing it to stop people from thinking their tax returns fucked up.

Now why would he be adding Lunar Scythe art to his site in recent years? Don't tell me that he's still hanging onto that abortion of a game idea...wouldn't surprise me though if he still is to this day.
On his stream page, there's a picture of Luna drawn by Mulberry. That was probably the one added on 2019.

Edit: Looks like I was wrong; the picture has been there since at least 2016.
Edit 2: Just realized that I can just type in the name in the url. Here's the picture he added.
Edit 3: Most of the pictures are signed Kinuko. This is what comes up when I look up the name.

Looks to be quite old

I used wget to download it so it will say it was created today while the modified date will be actually representative of when it was last modified. Was uploaded to his server on the 9th of August 2016.

Edit: fuckin' ninja'd

Here's all of the Lunar Scythe art for easy viewing (afaik the first two aren't by Kinuko):

As for everything else it's far too much to embed in a post (and some of it has probably been posted already), so below you can download a full archive of the site. (They're volumes because of KF's upload limit so you'll need something like 7zip/WinRAR to extract)

Bear in mind that all HTML files will have the wrong modified date because the Apache server doesn't return a Last-Modified header for them.

(Edit: I've archived everything posted here on the Wayback Machine for authenticity)

Stretch Goals can be great.
The problem is that most Kickstarter/GoFundMe/Patreon project owners are assholes.
Get a good project, there is no problem.
Get a bad project, you are fucked.

Mighty Number 9, for example, turned into millions of dollars of heroin and cocaine, and about $10K worth of game.

Shantae Half Genie Hero turned into a pretty good game.

Both had stretch goals.

Well, at least Alex is somewhat consistent in his failure.

That's Lunar Scythe's opening screen, and my computer is once again being forced to work way too damn hard to render that. Much like YanSim, no framerate cap. Unlike YanSim, even when I impose a reasonable framerate cap it's still almost maxing out my first CPU core for no real reason.
Edit: And naturally, there's a section of the ReadMe dedicated to "If you are experiencing poor performance".

Remember how I said about a little over a month ago that Osana being released will be the swan song for YanSim? I'm still holding on to that opinion of mine. The less naive part of the fanbase will realise how shitty the final game will likely be and they'll pull their support for YanSim once Osana officially releases.

I know that most of the conversation has been centered on Osana, but has Alex said anything about the other rivals since Osana is the first one?

Nothing that I can remember unfortunately. Maybe someone else remembers at least a few of the things that Alex has said about the other rivals?

The rivals after Osana get kinda handwaved in the roadmap for one thing, since they would all use Osana as a base, I guess. Once the second rival is implemented, the game's gonna cost money, which sounds really early to start charging for it. That was like the last time we heard about anything other than Osana, that's logical on Alex's part since drawing attention to all the 10(minimum) other ways he can fuck up would kill some hype.
