I'd guess it's part bc now the 90s is gonna be the "fashion" decade, like how currently everybody's going nuts for the 80s, and the 90s was also the first time gays were getting mainstream and also getting positive treatment from people (after the AIDS fear of the 80s), so I'd guess it's that.

There's a Japanese show called Miss Sherlock that just aired in Japan. Of course Tumblr immediately are saying they're gay because they're both women. I thought Japan doesn't really do gay stuff though in their regular shows. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) I mean aside, from maybe some of the manga or something or Yuri On Ice.
I have a feeling the Miss Sherlock characters will just be friends.
