When Emily decided to allow it (I suppose since she was about to escape anyways) he tried to forcibly kiss her lips at that moment. At any rate it's not much of a stretch considering the third date and all that. If he expected any woman he dated to put out by the third date, then it's quite likely he expected to be able to grope his girlfriend by the second date (if not sooner).
