They may be laughing all the way to the bank now, but in the end it's Chris that's going to have the last laugh.

Nah. Every extra dollar they make in interest is another win for the 3Cs. Doesn't matter if there's no one to pay off the debt after his death, he's already paid $25,000 in interest.

Yeah. He should have made enough to get Barb's teeth done. I understand that there are other bills, but he should put some money aside to save up for it. He's been going on about it for a good while that something SHOULD have been done by now.... Legos > Mother, I guess.... It also makes me wonder if this is true that Barb needs dental work or is it his way to get more money to spend on his "needs"?

When you've payed more in interest than the principle is worth... I think the people you owe money to should just forgive it. (Not saying for them to break even, but maybe when it's principle and a half or something)

Edit: although it's probably only a small few (like Chris) who have somehow managed to pay 5x the principle in interest.

That would be the right thing to do morally, but as Sweet and Savoury said before, people like Chris are a credit companys wet dream. It's people like Chris who make the credit industry so profitable.

At least Chris borrows from legitimate sources and not loan sharks. Gods help the poor bastard if he's ever swindled into borrowing from an illegitimate source

That was just a guesstimate. I doubt he'd actually pay that much extra over the course of a $5k loan, but I wouldn't be surprised at all of that's how much interest he's paid over the course of all his debts. If he lives another 20-30 years this way, I don't even want to imagine how much the total could be.

Not trying to A-log, but I doubt Chris will have any kids/parents that can be effected by his debt byt he time he finally goes to the CWCville under ground.

Barb is a grown woman who worked for decades, is a widow of someone who worked for decades, and currently has access to pensions and/or social security. I don't see why it is Chris' responsibility to pay her dental bills. If it were, why is it not Cole's as well?

I think Chris has an obligation, if he is living with his mother, to pay approximately half of all joint expenditures. After that, the money is his. and he can do whatever dumbass things he wants with it. If he buys his mother some dental work, that's great. If he buys lego, I don't give a shit. If he buys lego and then bitches about teeth money, I don't give a shit.

It is a different story if he doesn't currently pay his share, and Barb is saying something that in effect means "You have to pay your share now. I can't cover you because I need dental work." But if he is contributing, then Barb's teeth are Barb's problem.

I kind of agree in general, but it doesn't really apply in this case.

To me, the ideal parent/child relationship is that by the time a child is 18, that child should be (able to be) mostly on their own. They should still be there for their family, of course, but their family also shouldn't be trying to bum $150 for an electricity bill every other month.

But that's not what's happening at Casa Chandler. Barb and Chris' relationship right now is like they're married. And when you're married, it's reasonable for your partner to pay for stuff for you. It should be approximately 50/50, but you aren't counting pennies because you trust each other. The problem isn't that Barb's trying to get Chris to pitch in on her dental work, they're married. The problem is that Barb let it get to the point that she's married to her son. That was the fuckup.

You shouldn't marry your son.

.

I'm afraid, as nice as that sounds, with the current economy its hard to do. Jobs are hard to get, and you can't pay the bills for an apartment alone.

So getting totally self reliant at 18, while very nice, is also very hard to do. I know it was much, much easier 30-40 years ago, especially with comunism going for "Complete employment" .

And if it is hard for someone average, for Chris is almost impossible.

Oh yeah, nah, I'm not holding 18 as a solid standard. Family should be around for you in hard times, and that might be a lot later than 18 nowadays. I'm just saying if you're going to be counting every little penny, that's less of a family relationship and more of a roommate relationship.

Chris and Barb don't have a roommate relationship, they're fucking married. (Or maybe more of a master/slave relationship.)

You are totally right there, and yes, I think its more of a master-servant relationship. Chris was always submissive, and Barb sees him as a type of "free manservant" . I'm not trying to glorify Bob, but since he died, things went south very greatly with the Chandlers.

There's a thousand things that Chris should do but he won't. That would require thinking about the future and putting aside money for those problems down the road, and that means he'd be spending less time and money on his lego cwcville.

Wouldn't matter if it's true or not, any money Chris gets would go right to legos unless Barb was able to pry it out of his greasy little paws.

Point taken.

I just wanted to point out that we are talking about Chris paying for his grown mother.

Problem: Not enough good teeth, too many non-set Legos.

Solution: Pull out Barb's rotten teeth with a pair of Bob's old pliers, put generic white Legos in the gum sockets and have her use those to help chomp her Q-Sands.

YOU'RE WELCOME CHRIS.

Just think of all the fun Chris can have making them and all the time Barb'll save not having to brush them.

You are assuming Barb brushes them in the first place. I know she's not Chris, but I highly doubt her hygiene is all that much better.

I feel bad for Chris if he's really so economically illiterate he thinks paying the minimum is all he should do.

If you had $3000 in debt at 17.9% interest (Some go up to 23.9%) and paid the minimum payment of 1% plus interest a month it'd take 27 years and four months to pay it off and cost $7269 in total ($3000 + $4269 interest) (From http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/minimum-repayments-credit-card ) and that's only if you're not racking up more debt.

What's even worse is that it states on the damn credit card statement how long it'll take to pay it off and how much interest you'll pay.
