It's always the usual suspects who go begging for money. But I've been noticing that the more "normal" users still browse the site but post fairly rarely.

Perhaps that's where the money's coming from -- a shadow userbase of fairly wealthy software engineer types who keep out of discussions, but every now and then throw in a few hundred bucks to keep the circus going, maybe out of sympathy, or maybe because they just find the shitshow entertaining.

It's clear though that the loudest shitters are typically also the most broke.
 
I've been a regular on old Facepunch forums since 2010 and it's really sad that many of the familiar names are now completely trooned out on Knockout. Though there was already plenty of red flags about them, either for being furfags, degens in general or for not being able to debate politics for shit besides muttering "whataboutism" all the time.
The great purges of Rust subforums and compilations of bans made by the mod postal (you might've seen the photo of his bare ass cheeks if you played Postal 2 or saw the ED page) were pretty funny.

I wouldn't be surprised if a great bulk of the Facepunch userbase were here. Both are derived from Something Awful, after all. Heck, I think probably a bulk of the current knockout trannies (the forum is called knockout because they're so monstrously ugly you faint when you see them btw) have accounts here that they try to forget about.

Really, knockout is one of the worst cases of troll's remorse on the internet. Everything these retards are doing is to maximally distance themselves from their own glorious pasts as irreverent, somewhat libertarian types (even the leftists were of a dudeweedlmao type) because they're terrified of that little shadow in the corner of the eye - the abortive chud in them.

Same, from 2011. But I was just a kid back then, probably one of the youngest users, so I didn't really have the understanding or good memory (other than the fact that I got banned like 5 times and just came back on alts). I think the real change started with gamergate, as was the case with most online communities back then - I remember initially the forum was rather pro-gamergate, but when it became clear that they'd have to pick a path: either go proto-chud, or proto-tranny, they all cucked and picked the latter. I know this because it was sometime around there that I started going on there less and less and started patronizing /pol/ instead. I don't exactly remember the why - the forum went down for a bit then I think, there was some change, and Garry was already all like "yeah I'm gonna close this shit" every so often until he actually did it. The mods started getting more heavy-handed too, a lot of the humor was now a big no-no, they kinda started drifting into that reddit be a good hooman bean mentality, with all the moral high ground nonsense
 
In the Meta subforum there was a slapfight over a body shaming rule. Someone who claimed to have fecal incontinence threw a fit and deleted their account because people were making fun of Donald Trump for, apparently, shitting himself during a media event. This led to tightened enforcement of a no-body-shaming rule where you can't insult a person's body or appearance in any way. This person seems to have taken "I can't make jokes about the President shitting his pants" very, very seriously and existentially:

And oh man, if only I could go back 10 years and tell the denizens of Facepunch that Trump would be elected that year, and that this singular event would eventually render the community as little more than a gathering of whiny little pants-shitting retards.

It absolutely is one of the worst case of troll's remorse and I agree of them being terrified of the chud in them, but I wouldn't call those pasts "glorious". More like they were a bunch of antisocial little shits like most terminally-online "netizens" were back then, and now they're trying to distance themselves from that point in their lives because they're petrified of being judged and ostracized if civil company ever found out. And there's is a very real chance of that: they thought the internet would be their sekrit naughty-boy club forever, but now everyone's online. So they're overcompensating to try come off as having "cleaned up their act". But if you prod them just the right way to peel back that layer of HRT and cloying "sensitivity", absolutely nothing has changed about the disgusting goblins underneath.

Fuckin' cowards trying to avoid reaping what they've sown is all they are--a bunch of pussies trying to sell some "redemption arc" to hide that they're just as worthless as they always were. The only worthwhile ones from that era were the ones who were never edgy little shits in the first place.

only caveat to the above is that facepunch probably helped them along in becoming freaks and deviants. more specifically, the 'heckin wholesome online home' vibe did it, where users with social problems congregate and get their cheap social fixes on an internet forum instead of going outside. this was always sort of background noise to facepunch culture but with knockout it's front and center.
