Factorio Thread

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Probably (a) for the same reason as the others previously, to build a little suspense until they officially announce it in a FF, and (b) they're still working on it and have been prioritising work based on the order they plan to show things (also for design reasons it makes sense to leave it until near-last since changes to earlier planets/tech will have an accumulative effect on how the endgame should play out). I won't be surprised if they leave it until just before release to keep everyone clicking on the blog.

maybe they keep the final planet and its game mechanics a complete secret so there is something new to discover and explore when space age comes out, instead of everything having been spoiled ahead of time

Hello, I have autism but it's the destructive kind where I scream and wail, also thrash and gnash, fist and scissor, burn and crash.

Is factoria the right game for me??

No, you're not autistic enough for it. You need to VAXMAXX for at least 4 years more.

You're talking about mindustry, correct?
Yeah, don't worry, you will get used to phone controls. Though, of course, it's better on PC.
Also a quick tip from someone with 400 hours, don't bother playing survival, attack is where the real fun is.

First new Factorio trailer in 4 years.

I hope there's an option to add them to Nauvis as well as part of the evolution tree to freshen up the defence aspect of the game, even in a death-world run once you've gotten bots and flamethrowers you can just ignore it until you're outputting mega-base levels of pollution (to which the answer is just adding more of them and lasers), it seems they have a greater resistance to fire than the base bugs to encourage diversifying your defences but would have to wait until release to know for sure. They look cool as well, you can tell the bigger ones are using similar animations to the spidertron by how they move and the bases exploding into a small swarm of them is pretty neat, I imagine someone is gonna get killed by the swarm when ramming the bases with a tank. About 3 months till release and I'm excited.

Of course there'll be a mod for that if it isn't in the worldgen settings.

I dunno if I'd call it a trailer, it's just the top demo from the most recent FF blogpost. But they probably thought it was cool enough to be worth making it easier to share.

I was planning to skip the enemy reveal posts but the thumbnail in the blog spoiled me so whatever. These things look really fucking sweet; I was a bit worried the new enemies would be biter reskins so that's a relief. Especially since this is only the first one and they're probably saving the best for last.

So now trains are overtly antagonistic, rather than simply being antagonistic as the consequences of my own design.

I don't remember: did they announce just when you get construction bots in Space Age? Because as much fun as it might be to design a killbox for this thing, having to rebuild a whole outpost by hand when one of these shows up is going to get old really quickly.

I don't think they made a statement about changing the base recipe or the science requirements for bots I'm assuming though so I might be wrong.

the worms are territorial and don’t respawn so either you mine in worm territory and get your outpost wrecked or you assert dominance over the worm and they will never bother you again

That said, construction bots are early tech as it is and there’s no good reason to gatekeep them. Logistics system might be a planet or two away though

How would worms work in peaceful mode? In peaceful mode, the biters won't attack unless you do, so you can either clear them out as they fight back, or you could fence them in.

In other news, I'm seriously considering a new run, maybe my last one before Space Age and/or the one that I bring over. I can't decide if I want to be efficient and have buses or have fun and make spaghetti. Buses should be faster but almost every time I try to do buses there's some bullshit (major shortage of resources, space issues, etc.) that prevent me from finishing in a timely manner.

Plus I like the idea of a factory that grows outward instead of in a line that's annoying to go from one end to the other. Nothing worse in a bus factory that you're out at the end of the line fixing up your purple science line when a swarm of biters has overwhelmed your defenses and heading straight for the power plant clear on the other side of the map.

Try a train factory maybe? Best of both worlds; you can sprawl however you like and it'll make for a better home base for coming back to and setting up interplanetary logistics, if you do bring the file to Space Age.

Except the train reworks are coming with 2.0, and I'd normally use LTN or whatever, but then you'd likely be stuck with that instead of being able to just switch to the new vanilla trains (if it's even compatible at first).

Plus there's the new Nauvis terrain gen and other changes.
It's hard to resist but I'm just gonna wait for it so I don't risk having factory fatigue when it launches, personally.

Yeah, I'll probably make a full run on the new Space Age just to see it, probably Peaceful mode so things don't get too cumbersome (at least partially peaceful mode, I'm not sure about lightning).

The latest blog post reveals more changes, pumps are going to be a lot less useful (1/10th of what they were) and fluid wagons now carry twice as much, but if your pumps are super-cucked it will now take 14 seconds to unload it all.

This is why I want to get one more good run in, because likely the 2.0 update will screw over setups and not only do I want my mods to be 2.0 compatible but I want the 1.x functionality back. There will probably be a whole host of mods to change everything back as it was.

Trains were always kind of annoying to slap down unless you had blueprints.

Mostly what I want is some sort of spaghetti factory that somehow works properly and is aesthetic. This picture is kind of cool before you start noticing things like belting the solar panels to go nowhere or putting plastic bars back onto the coal feeding line.

I remember one run that seemed to go relatively fast was just making a series of "mini-plants", so one center would be making red science, then one doing the circuits and so on, with ample walking space. Maybe I'll do something like that again.

His channel has always had fun Factorio videos, but this one may be his best.
Holy shit the “No belts” base has permanently broken his brain!

Spergs who have built their own megabases: would it have really done that much damage to his UPS to have used a few lengths of belt or normal boxes instead of using all those cars/tanks to bridge gaps? Or is it just autism from the no-belt challenge?
