Fallout 76 Community - Playerbase of Fallout 76

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Yeah, that's still THE source of mods for Fallout 1 and 2, the slavs are very into them, some russian mad lad already made 2 games in the engine, as large as the originals- "Fallout: Nevada" and "Fallout: Sonora".

Yea I like what I've seen of them, I am looking forward to them being translated fully (I know Sonora's supposedly done but it's not fully done) so I can play them.

I've got a Windows VM on my mac and I know I can run fallout on it without issue, I might dig out my old mod archives (think they are still in my folks) and relive some of the good times.

Yeah, the translation situation is pretty bad because of how niche it is, I've played them in russia.
You might also like Olympus 2077- another fan game in the Fallout 1-2 engine, only different lore (diesel-punk post-apoc) and all redrawn art.

I tried playing Fallout 4 again recently and gave up right as I got to diamond city because of how fucking boring the gameplay is. Every enemy is a bullet sponge, you never have to worry about low ammunition, if you have a companion with you then the game practically can play itself, movement feels unsatisfying (I can't really explain it, it just feels like shit), the weapons look terrible, the factions are boring and I find myself skipping through dialogue, and that's on top of the issues I experienced just trying to get the game to run on a multiple monitor setup.

If it's still like that in 76, then I cannot fathom how it still has an active playerbase let alone lolcows that everyone in the games community gossips about.

Has the game actually gotten good since its launch? Given the reputation it had originally, I don't see how it could have a huge community still unless some big improvements have been made.

I played it early on, only because it was a Fallout title and it was legit shit and half-assed. I got to a pretty high level and did basically everything

I reinstalled it like a year or two ago and they had basically added like 20 different forms of in-game currency that you would have to mine or whatever. I wouldn't say it became pay2win (I immediately tuned out once I saw that) but its obvious they added intense gamification elements to keep players hooked. I uninstalled and haven't touched it since and I have no desire to.

It really is a turbo-normie game that is just a vessel for Bethesda to sell merchandise and TV licensing agreements and keep the Fallout fanbase (the normie fanbase that is) satiated while they continuously make no new Fallout games.

When I played it, it pretty much was exactly like that except the bulletsponging was turned up by 10x and you had artificial limitations with crafting and shit that would mean weapons would wear out and ammo was sparse. They had a massive duping issue early on in the games life which meant that super god-tier guns were everywhere which basically destroyed all sense of balance. I can only imagine that all consequent updates have been made with that dupe glitch in mind.

Lmao.

lol

actual omegalol

The NMA forums (which someone else referenced upthread) are pretty much the cornerstone of the actual "Fallout community" and they not only hate basically every Fallout title after Fallout 2 (some like FO:NV, some don't) they throw the word "tranny" around like candy.

Those two beat out anything made by Westerners, funnily enough. Not just that, but a good bulk of Bethesda's content as well.
Speaking of fangames, if you post this image around Bethesda/76 fanboys, they tend to shit themselves and start crying. Something to do with various boogeymen from NMA or Elder Scrolls community. Don't ask cause I don't know.

The part that pisses them off is implying that 76(and any other Bethesda games) is not canon and they are not part of the Fallout fanbase. You know how outsiders get when people try to gatekeep them out.

Smart kids in russia were isolated from other kids for being "nerds", so they played classic RPGs and loved them.
20 years later these nerds grew up to be IT specialists and now make homages to the games of their childhoods.
Take note how many russian or other slav names are behind most of the recent "classic RPG revival" games.

Warlockracy is a really great channel that gives some great insight on some RU-language RPGs and Fallout mods in English, they would be impossible to understand, even with translation software because there is a lot of cultural context involved: https://www.youtube.com/@Warlockracy

Yeah, but I don't like his long tirades into why everyone is post-soviet slav trash around him. I'm not against opinions, but sometimes he talks as if he has the moral high ground.

I love them. Without them he would just be typical YouTube slop but he actually offers a unique and opinionated view on things. He would in essence become Fallout 76 without them. He's currently like Fallout 1/2/NV.

This reminded me that the current Fallout civil conflict is split into fans of Fallout 4 and 76 and older fans of Fallouts 1 and 2, with New Vegas being sort of shared. Nobody likes 3.

Just on the subject of classic fallout has anyone put any time into Atom RPG, it's by a Russian dev but has full english language support and was thinking of picking it up - is it worth it?

Back before Beth got the IP NMA was wild they even had a few cows of there own, mostly stemming from the sub The Order - They where fun times.

I remember one of the founders was taken by Beth to DC from Belgium I think and he gushed over Fallout 3 and made himself very unpopular with the community so much so he stepped down an faded away I think he was trying to become a game journo but the full details are fuzzy it's been a long time.

Back in the day there where not so common, they where there but not as common - back then the MIB88 megamod, and Killaps restoration patch where the best and I still like playing them unless I want the original off the disk classic experiance I always play with the restoration patch.

I always wanted to make a mod that added a few things in early game, like adding a Sling an a Bow and some tribal armour, and to make the camp fires useful and healing power into a bit more of a narcotic if you where healthy etc, or another tone that toned down the tribal neo-stone age down a fair bit an make Arroyo into a small town founded or resettled by the Vault Dweller an moved the Temple of Trials to a mine like location where you had to go an find the details about the vault dweller he stashed away like his pipboy because you where hopping to find the location of V13 to go ask them for help but it was broken so you have to go find Vic in Klamath to try an fix it, so you had to travel East blindly on the world map to get there etc.
