Fallout 76 General Thread - Bethesda does it again!

Their games are such wasted potential shallow garbage though, even when they "just work".
Yeah but some people like that. I personally can't stand anything Bethesda has put out since FO3 because I can't enjoy that shallow structureless kind of gameplay but plenty of people like turning off their brain and shooting zombies or hitting skeletons with swords or whatever. They couldn't even get that right though.

Will they be able to turn 76 around or is it a lost cause?

The fact is that Bethesda has Starfield and TES VI in the oven, no meaningful reputation for post-launch support and it's an open secret that Fallout 76 is a kitchen sink of ideas cut from Fallout 4. If they intended to sustain the game, they would've invested in it upfront instead of cutting every possible corner.

I suspect they'll make some modest technical patches before giving up, cutting the price and handing it over to modders and private servers to generate some passive sales revenue while they focus their money and personnel on the big hitters. It's a quick buck to burnish their year-end investor report, nothing more.

This situation could be like the one with No man's sky, where the game was shit at launch and then in a year and a half became pretty good. The problem is that everyone lost interest by then. So I think the game will be improved, but not a lot of players will be interested.

Thing is, I've heard NMS is actually pretty cool now after all the updates. The idea itself for NMS was cool.

Bethesda has basically devastated any hope of saving 76 right off the bat, because in order to pull a NMS, they'd actually have to have some kind of creative spark or vision for this garbage and it's clear they don't. 76 wasn't a good idea at any point, or an idea at all. It was simply "release FO4 again, but make it worse. The suckers will buy it and forgive us regardless."

I'm not sure that plan is going to work this time though.

I wont lie, I folded and bought it to see how much of a shitshow it was.

And somehow I can kinda enjoy it. The great outdoors really can look good at times. Interiors look like shit 99% of the time though. And the memory leak in the game is inexcusable.
But somehow I like the challenge of trying to overcome the weight issues and running from monsters that can ohk me.

Did they invest ANY money for this fucking project?

I'm sure they spent more money licensing "Country Roads" and "Wouldn't it be nice" and all the marketing wank than they did in development.

This game is a casserole, because it's made with nothing but leftovers! They took the pre-pre-alpha idea for fallout 4, added ghouls with guns, some Skyrim code, some stale tater tots and poured a can of mushroom soup over and put it in the oven for half an hour and they expect us to eat this slop!

Let's see how big the list of fuck ups is now:

1: Releases multiplayer only Fallout game with no NPCs and barely existent story.

2: Game takes great care to make sure to wipe it's ass with established lore.

3: Doesn't release game on Steam, forcing people to use a buggy, subpar launcher.

4: Game is buggiest Bethesda game of all time.

5: Beta testing commences a week before launch, Beta testers are largely expected to pay to be the Beta testers.

6: Bugged launcher causes entire game to delete itself.

7: Said bugged launcher doesn't allow some people to uninstall the game.

8: Refunds denied if you so much as downloaded the game files after purchase.

9: Power Armor edition promises a canvas West Tek duffel bag and instead gives those that ordered said edition a cheap Nylon duffel.

10: Attempts to "make up" for shitty nylon duffel bag with $5 worth of Atoms which will barely get you anything.

11: Bitches at Sony for not having crossplay capability for the game, only to reveal that they never intended to implement it anyway if Sony had.

12: Releases game with little to no anti cheat protection.

Fucking hell, this shit is reaching EA or Ubisoft levels of incompetent.

Well though considering how few IPs they have, or they can't eat studios like the other two, if this shit happens again Bethesda can royally screw themselves over from all this baloney. It is one thing for people to pre-order a game that isn't satisfying, but it is another when that game turns out to be a borderline unplayable mess where they have the gall to shortchange you on your physical goodies with some micro-transaction money that is equal to offering you a pack of 25 cent gum.

Don't worry the fan modders will release a bug fix pat- oh wait....

The entire alliance system makes no sense, retconned Molag Bal into a less offensive evil, turned moon sugar into candy instead of crack. And continued the trend of ignoring everything cool established in Morrowind and Daggerfall, but that was to be expected. Off the top of my head.

Fair enough on those points, I stand corrected.

What hurts the most is the refunds being declined. They knew that if they released on Steam they would have to do refunds so they lock it onto their platform to prevent that. Bethesda have stated that they would not honor a refund if you download the game and will only refund physical copies of the game.

Which leads to the most fucked up part of this whole shitshow. The physical copies of Fallout 76 are just cardboard disc cutouts with instructions to download the game printed on them.

So no matter what version you got, there's no way they'll do a refund since you didn't get an actual physical disc copy of the game. Could you really blame that guy who chimped out in Gamestop when they wouldn't refund him?

AND THEY HAVE THE BALLS TO CHARGE AAA PRICING FOR THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE

EDIT: Apparantly those who got invited to the Fallout 76 Press event by Bethesda got canvas bags. You've got to be shitting me.

>Spend $200+ dollars on game, get shitty nylon bag
>Suck Bethesda's Dick and shill for them, get a canvas bag
>"B-but muh resources..."

Bethesda has surpassed EA and Ubisoft with this nonsense in my opinion. Congrats.
