I hate retards stating Fallout was always silly and then other retards stating Fallout has “silly but dark moments.” They’re all narratively illiterate. Almost every example in this video highlighted from every game is rooted in Absurdist philosophy. Myron in Fallout 2 is absurdism. The wanton destruction of hundreds of people to create a drug to ruin more lives in a world trying to rebuild is absurdism. The Master creating an army of mutants to be the new ubermensch only to realize they’re infertile and his efforts to find meaning post war have been pointless is absurdism. Even stuff like the Enclave and Little Lamplight is absurdism. Retards think of it as “ha ha silly” and even bigger retards write it off as “stupid writing.”

Literally just people missing the point and trying to call the other retard the bigger one.

To be fair, as much as people love shitting on Bethesda, Fallout being "silly" started with Fallout 2, got worse in Tactics and by the time BOS(or POS as I like to call it) hit the market, it was basically a game marketed for dude bros and energy drink sipping teenagers. It was flanderized worse than in Fallout 3 and arguably even in Fallout 4. Then Bethesda took it over and dumbed it down in their own special way for the masses(3 was at least trying to capture the same atmosphere as the first game).
This is the consequence of never getting Van Buren out the door. If you read the design docs of that game, humor and silliness is kept at the minimum, it would have been a fantastic game with a really unique atmosphere.

Nah, I don't really believe in statements like this. You're reading all this stuff without the things that come after it in game dev like having to get it running on late 90's and early 00's tech, completing all the art designs, etc.

Its like saying the HL2 Beta or early Bioshock Infinite would've been good or better than what came after, it just doesn't account for every variable. The real reason its better is because its all left up to your imagination, and we all know nothing ever matches the what-could've-been in our minds.

Well, we got HL2 and it was alright. BI would have been better if it was anything like in it's previews since the final product sucks.
Most importantly, we have an actual tech demo for the game(with many assets already done, just not implemented within the tiny tutorial demo the game gives you) so we know roughly how it would have played out.
More importantly, Van Buren might as well have released since most of the content from that game made it into other games, most notably New Vegas, one way or another. I think Van Buren would have been a great return to form after Tactics and POS, the design docs tell a better story than most Bethesda games do nowdays and many of these are in rough drafts.

But we don't need to imagine anything, there is several projects in the works right now to complete Van Buren and they're promising. Most recently, Revelation Blues finally got a demo so we know what to expect from them, I'm itching to try it out for myself.

We'll see how they end up. I'm not holding my breath though since I know none of the takes on VB would ever match what I would want out of it. I'd rather just make my own take on it.

The design docs, and about 95% of the content that would make it into the game, are all already there. No need to imagine anything. Now we just need someone to splice it together into a game, hopefully not like that dummy who made that mediocre Yesterday mod.

Ah shit, beat me to posting it. Yeah it's clear these people never passed English class, let alone took a writing class. Even if you tell them this concept they'll still defend their original point and ignore it while praising it in other media (which is a lot of media) because the thought of them being wrong in any way is incomprehensible. They're fools, they can comprehend the idea that absurdism can be serious in other media but refuse to take it seriously with Fallout because...later games in the series double down on it? Honestly you can summerize these retards by this part in the video:

Bonus, this comment makes me sad.

I've never played the classic fallouts but i can feel in my heart that bethesda ruined this franchise

Play them and form your own opinion rather than following the consensus of part of the community

You are missing out on 2 great games (maybe 3, I haven't played Tactics) and are a slave to others thoughts. Don't do that.

Tactics is fantastic, but it is even more unfinished and unbalanced than the other games due to rushed development, inexperienced studio and lack of QA time. I suggest playing the game in turn based mode and making sure to have at least 1-2 Big Guns/Energy Weapons experts in the mid-late games as Small Guns become useless past a certain point despite dominating the weapons table. Other than that, it's a decent game. It takes place BETWEEN Fallout 1 and 2 chronologically, not after BTW(Fallout London takes place around the same time too).

Narratively, atmosphere wise, writing, choice and maybe RPG wise yes but IMO them being turn based isometric is what would honestly make me play a bethesda Fallout over them, New Vegas is a pretty good true spiritual sequel to west coast Fallout. It's such a shame no one whether it be a company or modders has remade the originals in 3D, I don't really understand why it would be so hard anyway given they would have all the writing more or less done.

And you have a Graham pfp?
I think you need to play both of them. Now.

Now, on the video:
FO1 has the serious atmosphere, horror-like.
FO2 had the goofy funny atmosphere, but makes sense in a post-postapocalypt setting.
That's all.

That is still an insane amount of work.

Shame, sounds like all of the issues I had with FO1 and 2 are more prevalent in Tactics. I planned on doing turn based since that was the intended play style for the game anyways, I think?

This. You're outing yourself m8

So has anyone heard anything about that FO inspired RPG Mark Morgan was supposed to help with? I remember hearing about it awhile ago but don't remember anything coming of it.

I had a hard time looking for this image, along the way I found out Mark Morgan was supposed to be the composer for Prey 2, another sad detail for that games development story. FML

The intended way to play was real time actually, since the game was supposed to prime players for Van Buren(which was going to play exclusively in real time). However, it is so unbalanced that I doubt you will have fun with the game. It is much harder and plays completely differently, I suggest playing in turn based(individual, not party/team based) all the way thru first, and if you like the game enough, give it another shot in real time mode.
