Because Todd fucking seethes that New Vegas
People really like to run with this cope that Bethesda hates New Vegas, when the truth is Bethesda just doesn't give a shit. Obsidian got contracted to make a game, they used some ideas from a cancelled fallout game, and after a bit over a year they had a mostly working game to release. Bethesda only really started touching the west coast a good few years after 4 released, and that's largely been limited to spinoff media (Tabletop games, creation club, and the TV Show.). Bethesda never felt threatened by New Vegas because they were the one's who raked in most of the profits, and then Fallout 4 vastly outsold New Vegas anyways, and continues to.

The only company that lives in the shadow of New Vegas is Obsidian themselves, who invoke the Fallout name every time they release a new subpar rpg people forget about after 2 months. Bethesda mentions it every once and while to sell new merch that'll probably give you lung cancer.

the fact that ms didnt tell both bethesda and obsidian to stop making the pieces of shit they are doing and make another new vegas is the most egregious thing here

Personally I do wish they kept it, since it would've provided more reasons to use heavy weaponry, and it would solve the weird issue that with Flamers being categorized as an energy weapon, I guess they're not really guns per se but outright calling them an energy weapon feels off too.
Big guns should have simply been called heavy weapons.

More like 2 days tops.

yeah, always did feel weird that the flamer was labeled as a "big gun" even though it really isn't a gun per se. I also always did find it weird that the Gatling laser was never really considered a big gun in any of the games until 4 but that was less skills and more perks. I suppose though if you called the Gatling laser in 1/2 a big Gun you'd might as well call the plasma rifle one too given how large it is. I suppose it was all just less an indication of what the weapon actually was and more so an oversimplification.

some references to a super tool kit inside low intelligence dialogue, im sure you can put 2 and 2 together.

heres just a regular reference to the "super tool kit"

would have been really cool to have fallout 2 repair mechanics but i can understand why it was cut.

No, THAT is the cope. You think Todd would say shit like "We are never letting another studio develop one of our IPs ever again." If he didn't hate it? Do you think he would go out of his way to have New Vegas erased from canon via the TV show if he didn't care?

They do NOT want to have another studio New Vegas them ever again.

Microsoft is completely incompetent, I assume because 90% of the company are jeets too busy jacking off to bobs and vajene they steal from every grandma's laptop to do anything of value.

Not that it matters since nobody at Obsidian these days would make a good Fallout anyway. Outer Worlds is Bethesda tier if not worse.

I never got the appealing to using heavy weapons in Fallout.
They are a bit underwhelming if you compare to Energy or automatic Guns.
Big guns just aren't really done that well in any of the games.
1 & 2 are the ones that got them probably the best, even if I think a player shooting themselves in the foot by taking it as a tag skill is too harsh.

In 3 none of them are really powerful enough, as I've discovered in this playthrough. Minigun sucks so hard its not even funny, and the unique minigun isn't any better. Missile Launchers have zero power, and Flamers/Incinerators are by far the best weapons in the class.

In NV they don't even exist.

4 has the same issue as 3.

Todd didn't come up with the idea of the NCR getting nuked, and actually came out to "clear up" the timeline to say that New Vegas wasn't made non-canon by the story.
I'm still of the opinion the TV Show writers were just let loose to write their story, and no one noticed the weird timeline fuck up until after it released, But that's a different discussion.
Again, you need to make up this seething Todd strawman, when the simple fact is He Doesn't Give a Shit. New Vegas buys him a coffee every 3 weeks, he could shit out Fallout 5 tomorrow and it would sell more than New Vegas did.
You think Todd would say shit like "We are never letting another studio develop one of our IPs ever again."
The Oblivion Remaster was made by a outside Studio. The quote of "We are never letting another studio develop one of our IPs ever again." isn't even real, or at least I can't find it or a source for it, the actual quote is “I wouldn't say never, but now that our company is so big, it's always better to keep stuff internal … it becomes less likely, but I could never say never.” from this Guardian Article. (Archive)
In fact, in 2024, Todd outright said they were open to collaborations with other studios.

The prototypes are interesting, not as interesting as I would like as we know most of the cut content already but it's still a decent early look into the game's developmental history. I recognize the exact same graphical glitches seen in the TGS build TriangleCity has access to, and has since 2021 like the "half-face glitch" seen on Doc Mitchell
One more "fuck you" to this asshole for keeping all that to himself for at least 4 years now, just imagine how much more early content is in that build. Too bad nobody archived the video he made about it, and then shortly deleted it, probably on the advice of his discord tranny buddies who want to keep that knowledge in their exclusive circles. Should have done it myself but I only watched it once, figured a "preservation" channel wouldn't delete important information like this and only found out he did years later from one of my contacts. Now, watch as he makes a video about the leak and pretends all that is new to him, what a parasite.

Anyways, I'm more curious about the DLC early content. I've seen a hint of the Old World Blues VR room actually working, for example, if we could recreate that it would be great. Developmental information on the DLCs is much more limited compared to the main game, I would love to dig thru the files to see what has been deleted or what was in development at the time, especially with Dead Money and Honest Hearts which were once more grand in scope but had to be rushed due to deadlines.
The graphical glitches are from emulators not being done yet.

Mmmm hypothetical FNV dlc betas

Honestly would sell my soul for that stuff to leak or be found.
more references to big guns being a skill, would have actually been a good use for 2 handed rifles instead of just rocket launchers, grenade launchers, big machine guns and big energy weapons like in fallout 2/fallout new vegas
Big guns including 2 handed weapons fixes all my issues with it's existence in 3 why did they not follow through with it?

Love the Chinese MG, wish they kept it

Because Todd fucking seethes that New Vegas, which was a project meant to basically bankrupt Obsidian for an easy hostile takeover, came out with a fraction the dev time of their own games and became the fanbase and critical darling. He despises it, and knows that if they hand off their IPs to another team the main studios will be even more evidently incompetent than they already are.
Can you say that in a less obvious angry fanboy way?

People just act weird about the relationship between Obsidian and Bethesda. They still bring up that metacritic bonus claiming it was Bethesda trying to stiff the devs despite devs saying they got fully paid and it was just a motivational reward no one was depending on,they claim bethesda only gave them a year but both sides say Bethesda was open to them getting more time (really they just had to be a few months before skyrim which was still a year away).

There is no difference between bgs austin (a new studio of new hires) and any non Bethesda studio working on fallout.

Are you retarded? Todd didn't write the show and NV isnt erased from the canon, thats not how this shit works.

Bad writing that uses actual rpg mechanics is better than anything Bethesda has put out and its not even close

No dude Todd Howard personally writes everything fallout related and has Obsidian employees on his dart board.

I've been thinking about this recently and I've had this same feeling myself. The TV show has alot of weird 'Marvel Humor' in it that makes the whole thing feel like it's not taking itself seriously. It feels like the show is trying to make you laugh in a clinically retarded way.

Bethesda's writing certainly contains alot of stupid shit and characters doing stupid shit, but throughout Fallout 3 and 4, I didn't get the weird vibe that the show has within them. Even 76 for it's myriad of flaws didn't give me that vibe most of the time. Bethesda's Fallout is like a hyperactive child trying to tell you an epic story without thinking about any of the details. The TV show feels like something I'd see on Disney+, just with more gore.

It honestly feels like the TV show has a bunch of writers creating the story and Emil/Todd/Whoever just proofreads it and goes "It sounds interesting enough, go for it."

While the Fallout show isn't as extreme, it suffers from a similar issue as the Halo show where the writers didn't care about the property at all and just made a generic script with a thin coating of Fallout/Halo. I stand by my opinion that there was plenty of people who did give a shit about Fallout who worked on the show, it's just none of them were in the writers room or the director's chair.

This. The show just feels really meanspirited in that signature Amazon way if you know what I mean.

With The Boys I didn't really give a crap since I already held contempt for the original source, and being meanspirited was already a part of the identity to begin with so it sorta worked out.

It just doesn't work with Fallout, regardless of whether you look at it through the Interplay/Obsidian lens or the Bethesda lens. There is just zero of the Bethesda whimsy in the show, and there is zero of the Interplay/Obs. writing in any of it. It is a zero quality show through and through.

Is Bethesda responsible for it? yeah, maybe. But it sure doesn't feel like they have a hand in it beyond kickstarting it's creation.

I don't even think I'd hate it as much if it was in its own universe like Halo's show. You could solve every single lore issue by that mean and I wish that was the one aspect they didn't compromise on. Lord knows some of the people working on the show would want it that way.

i feel dirty stealing the sierra madre gold bars but the gameplay in that dlc fucking blows.
fuck you dean and elijahs last broadcast is fucking grim
