What are your top 5 RPG elements or mechanics that make a game saying it's an RPG an RPG?
I mentioned some, but Fallout 4 has the bare minimum to be considered a real RPG. I mentioned that perks are mainly just stat boosters in Fallout 4 with some exceptions, hardly any actually affect the ROLEPLAYING aspect of the game. Fallout NV you had perks for seduction, terrifying presence, cannibal, etc etc. Some of these are good for gameplay but some are only really good for roleplaying( sorta, some have more options then others) Fallout 4 doesn't have a lot of these compared to any previous games. Even Fallout 3 had more of these kinds of options. This goes for skill checks as well. Did I mention that Fallout 4 doesn't have a level cap, so your build only matters early to mid game? This is utter shit and have no idea why Bethesda does this, they even did it for Skyrim. Guess they feel normalfags and genuine autists only like to see their numbers go up.
Your character, depending on if you choose Nora or Nate, have a pre-determined background and personality. While you play, you can be a bit of an asshole but you don't have many opportunities to be a straight up asshole or sadistic compared to F:NV or FO3. I hardly remember ever having the options to, even though you can
supposedly be a raider. You clan either be a nice guy/gal, or an slightly less nice guy/gal. In New Vegas, I might be a courier no matter what, but what you did before, your background, and your personality is all determined by you. If Bethesda
INSISTS on a voiced protag with a some personality, at least do what Cyberpunk 2077 did and have it to where I can choose a background, and can be flexible on how he is as a person, and have you fill in the gaps.
There are only two real endings to the game, anything you do with factions doesn't really impact those endings unlike Fallout New Vegas. You're forced to side with the Minutemen no matter what, which sucks since I don't even care for them as a faction. What is the point of giving me options if all it really does is let me see a faction more or less? Granted this is more then what New Vegas does outside of the slides (hell you can't continue after the battle for Hoover Dam), but the devs had far less time then Bethesda did for Fallout 4. I prefer the slides with a variety of endings then what Fallout 4 did, since it felt like I actually did something roleplaying as my character.
Fallout 4 has better gameplay, but the games with worse gameplay have a lot more worse looking guns with even worse looking animations?
Fallout 4's guns all look like garbage, but so do all of the ones from NV and FO3. The animations and models were embarrassing even for their time.
Graphics are only the icing on the cake. The animations, textures, and models look worse sure (you're also comparing an older game), but they're serviceable. If having nicer textures and animations make a game better in your opinion, then there is something wrong with you. Fallout 4 also had much more development time and funding, it's impressive they churned out what they did despite not even having two years of development time on an engine they knew nothing about starting. But I would also argue that they were too ambitious and tried to shove as much stuff in as possible despite being limited on time. Game is notorious for how much content had to be cut, including Legion stuff which is a damn shame. Imagine if they were given a few more years of development time?
If you're gonna argue in favor of NV over FO4 you should make better arguments and use proper examples of things NV gets right.
I was avoiding this because I didn't want to bloat the post more but since you're asking. Besides the RPG shit I've mentioned above already.
>perks are better overall
>ammo types
>no level scaling
>more weapon variety
>well written (for the most part)
>a level cap
>traits (this can change how you play)
>more moddable
I will give Fallout 4 credit for a few things at least besides the improved gunplay.
>energy weapons feel so much better compared to F:NV
>the power armor changes are awesome
<but you get it at the very beginning of the game, which turns the early game into a cake walk
They should of made them harder to find. Same with the reactors to keep them powered.
>searching containers is better since it's real time
>character creation is better
It was shoehorned into a bunch of main quest stuff. It wasn't the base building that felt like an afterthought, it was the NPC AI interacting with the bases that was the afterthought.
I don't think it should of been in the game in the first place. It doesn't really add anything, it's just bloat.
