Fallout series

This is actually my current biggest issue with FOLON. FOLON suffers from having Fallout 4 mod dna deeply engrained in it, so some guns have literal fucking Aimpoints and shit as mods for them. You can put a Eotech on your EM2, the fact this phrase exists shows humanity has failed and God should send down another flood.
That fucking bullpup rifle? Pft, fuckin' hell.
To be fair there are somewhat modern firearms that do fit in Fallout like the PMG Hecate II,
You're right, original I wrote non-lore friendly "modern" gun mods but I deleted the lore part since I can tolerate those too if they're really high quality.
To be fair (and not to derail too much in gun sperging), I feel like a post-nuclear wasteland would have a lot of Bubba Gunsmith's garage experiments lying around. If anything, some of them aren't molested enough.
Absolutely, especially post-apocalypse. As in, the apocalypse is over, let's rebuild because we've scavenged the world already just to survive. Bethesda doesn't like that so every fucking game is going to be barely "post" because rebuilding it cringe unless the player does it. There will be wacky shit because there already has been wacky shit since Fo1, but there's a line and Bethesda tends to vault (heh) over it like it's a challenge.

Real-world gun makers are named in the classic games. The 14mm pistol is a Sig Sauer. The plasma pistol is made by Glock. Several weapons are made by HK.

seeing how Josh has successfully navigated destroying several major international governments he at least has an intelligence of 10 and somehow we always land standing up like 8 or 9 strength one Josh isn't a particularly physically imposing person

I'd put him at a 7, 8 at most. He's a bright guy but he gets blindsided occasionally by the weirdest of things. And MATI more often than people should normally be in the few occasions they can.

1 month and 15 days later, i have finished my modded Fallout 2 playthrough, Restoration and all. Holy fucking SHIT was I a fucking retard, to be unable to get this thing working 5 years ago.
As someone, who played Fallout 2 since i was a 11 year old, and who did 6 playthroughs on vanilla Fallout 2, i cannot express how impressed I am with both Restoration and accompanying modifications.
The game runs buttery smoooth, is fully modable and is stable as a concrete foundation - i did not got a single CtD or Save file corruption, not ONCE (with Fallout et tu i did got 4 CtD), although, around NCR, every save load took around 10 seconds longer and i was beginning to worry, if my file got corrpted - no such thing!

It was like a good old time, slowly working my way through the game, quest by quest, location by location, savouring all the new content. Gameplay wise, i do liked the new areas (EPA adds a lot of content, along with goodies that can permanently and temporarily boost your Primary statistic, free armour, weapons and new companions, although most of that requires high science and repair skills), I liked the expansions of some of the old quests (Lara's turf war in Den, Stark's scouting quest in Vault City, using the Tanker to get to Oil Rig) and the reimplemented cut content, it made a great game even greater, i don't think i disliked any of the new location, although i see why people would be miffed with places like Abbey or EPA, personally, i treated them as a fan addition to expand on the "canon" ingame lore, like with EPA's FEV info. I liked the Abbey mainly as a direct representation of the Abbey of Saint Leibowitz, even though it was mainly a collection of fetch quests.

I decided to also play as a crit oriented sharpshooter, first with small guns, then with energy weapons, and, after running this build in two different games: do NOT start with Finesse (and this applies for early melee builds too). I know that +19/20 crit chance can be tempting early on, but i assure you, you will, realistically, hit someone in the eyes or limbs 2, maybe 3 times out of 10, let alone make any dmg to them, not to mention killing them. Even when you max your offensive skill above 100% early, without the perks you still won't be as effective as you would like to be, which will either needlesly prolong combat or leave you ded. Just take Fast shot or Jinx and just mutate the trait on lv 21.

I do like that with the drug from EPA you can cheat and get the full 5 men party with only 6 charisma ;)

Here is me and the boys fucking up Navarro (ignore the Deathclaw, he was more of a liability then any real help):
The Chosen one's Posse.png

Also: the Pulse rifle crit capability is wastly overrated: i was eye-shotting Enclave soldiers 2 out of 10 times (energy weapons 150%, 10 Luck, Better criticals, Living Anatomy, BRD x 2)) while, at the same time, i was reliably one/two shotting them with Gauss rifle crit shots to the eyes, head or groin (same stats). I don't give a shit that you can eye-crit a Deathclaw, Floater, Supermutant or Alien/Wanamingo - end game is fighting hordes of Enclave solders with sentry bots and you sure as shit can't reliably crit kill them with Pulse rifle, so much for "muh 300 dmg eye shots".

Oil Rig was more me tard-wrangling my team to not rush forward and get ventilated by 6 shot gauss salvo next turn, rather then actuall challenge (although i got one-tapped by the minigun turret on two occasions, was really weird). Also, first time i forgot to leave my party at the hall and silently infiltrate the base, just went in and started blasting shit left and right, Sulik and Cassidy were particularly vicious with the civvies, once they killed the soldiers they went straight for them.

I decided to keep the turrets online for the final battle, but i did recruited Granite, wasn't sure how much hurt would Horrigan dish out per turn, on top of the turrets, so i wanted his company to soak up the dmg. Surprisingly - not much, around 40-50 dmg per turn on Adv. Power armor, so easily tankable with a set of Tesla armor. Wasn't able to cripple him though, so i just shot him to death - Granite delivered the 2 dmg Coup de grâce:
Frank's dead, baby.png

Overall - i had an absolute blast and the experience made me feel 15 years younger, when times were simpler and much less ghey.
I wanted to play Nevada next, but, honestly speaking, i had my fill with isometric Fallout games and would like to try something else.

Wanted to test London, but, after reading about the constant technical problems, decided against it - i have a feeling the potential entertainment value would be diminished by the crash-induced frustration.

Someone has uploaded a compilation of all firearms/energy weapons in FOLON:
My thoughts/observations:

-they fucked up the animation for the crude rifle.

-a lot of guns come from other Fallout 4 mods, which is cool.

-the Fire-lance is a cool concept and probably my favorite gun.

-I don’t get why the laser musket has the same reload animation as the regular musket since they use completely different methods of firing.

-the EM-2/Janson rifle is here, which is one of my favorite Cold War era prototypes.

-no L85/SA80 which is kinda weird because 1: Bri’ish, 2: it appeared before in Fallout: Tactics (which the devs referenced in an interview as being part of the reason why they added the Sten and Bren). I get the polymer look wouldn’t fit right, but I think the XL64 prototype variant would look plenty lore friendly, maybe with a more retro looking scope:
IMG_2439.jpeg

-similar to the above, they should have added the Browning Hi-Power since it was used quite extensively by the British during the Cold War, and is also present in New Vegas:
IMG_2441.jpeg

-really surprised there is no air gun or crossbow, since those are pretty popular non-guns in the cucked state that is Britain (there have been several high profile crossbow murders iirc).

-Crude gun is based on Fallout 4 concept art. Iirc it was supposed to have some sort of overheating mechanic but I think that’s unable to be implemented in mods because of game limitations.

-Surprised there is no Taden gun since it was a sister project to the EM-2 utilizing the same cartridge:

-Surprised there is no SREM, a prototype pump-action sniper:

-I prefer the look of the Viper MK III to the clunky ass version they picked instead:
IMG_2440.jpeg

-surprised there is no Boys AT rifle:

The lack of the SA-80 is a massive shame, I know IRL its really controversial but I think its a really iconic British gun. I imagine the SA-80 is absent because it would fill the same role as the EM-2, The HI-Power was probably left out for a similar reason, there aren't exactly a lack of pistols in the mod.

I mean do they care much about redundancy when there are 3 flavors of side loading SMGs in the mod? The Hi-power could at least fill the role of a high capacity pistol, since there don’t seem to be many pistol options that hold more than 8 shots by default.

I mean yeah, they could have and should have, but they didn't, I can at the very least track the logic of why said weapons were left out, even though I think its stupid. Hopefully someone mods them in soon.

What mods besides that you running?

Reading this made me feel all nice inside, it's wonderful seeing someone enjoy FO2 to such an extent. A breath of fresh air compared to the sperging we've been doing lately.
fallout has been dead for years. there is never going to be anything good with this ip
Some people are just figuring this out now, best you can hope for is mods and uh...don't get your hopes up for a big ass mod that's good.

Oh, and the UI is much better in the older games. The minimalist trash in F3/NV sucks and the one in F4 even more so. The pipboy esque UI with big buttons of older games not only had more flavor, it looked better too.
Yeah I think we just have very opposing tastes. Personally I am a big appreciator of simplistic UIs. I feel like a lot of games these days design their HUDs with zoomers in mind with so much bullshit going on I feel over stimulated just trying to keep up with it.
Simplicity is underrated. I'd much rather have a HUD with just the essentials than one with all kinds of bullshit that isn't really relevant to the core gameplay and just obstructs your vision or distracts you from the gameplay.

I will agree however that the aesthetic of the original game's UI is cooler and I've seen mods that keep the simplistic style of the current HUD while implementing the rusty metal look of the old ones so it can definitely be done. I'd much prefer that than anything else, because I cannot deny the old UI is definitely more interesting to look at. As you said it had personality, whereas the current UI just feels a bit generic.

Everything, that was in the "included section" in the newest update for the Restoration mod on github, so HQ Music, Unofficial patch, NPC armor, Cassidy talking head (very nice addition, model and animations look wonderful and the guy doing the voice acting have this natural, weary cadence), Party orders (also usefull - adds hotkeys to companion comands, healing, for example or for picking up shit from the floor) High res patch, additional rifle and wakizashi animations, i left the Misterious Stranger and extended flamer ones since 1.I don't use them 2. extended animation can screw with faster combat sequences, didn't wanted to risk potential crashes). I also downloaded the lossless music and F02 Tweaks (lotsa QoL additions, but also cheats like unlimited inventory, the AP ammo rework is included here (hard to discuss this, as playing the game with Finesse from start makes shooting finicky - i had situations, where i one-tapped people in Metal/combat armor with one burst and there were times when 2 burst were doing no/minimal dmg). Lossless music is nice, if you have a good soundcard and speakers, preferably connected with a TOSLINK optical audio cable - files are in both .flac and .wav, i prefer the flac format, sounds more "clear" if i can call it that.

I found a working translation for Sonora and I must disagree with your statement, so far it's very good. Nothing official is probably ever going to be good, at least as long as Todd and Emil are in charge but I have some hope for Yesterday.

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to be off your gourd on Aurora in that place, given its got a legal monopoly on that drug.

Of course, the nightmares are probably Scarecrow-level. They said Aurora would take you places, but they never said it would be places you'd want to go.
The Thames is radioactive as fuck in this mod, there is a flooded area not long after the Fish people and stepping in the water gives you 347+ rads a second.
Gotta give them props for representing the horrid state of the Thames IRL. Much like how The Pitt accurately represented modern-day Pittsburgh.

And fuck, I got ninja'd. Oh well, point still stands about the open-air toxic waste dump known as Pittsburgh.
For those of us who were in Kindergarten in 1998, the isometric games can be an acquired taste.
I'm not quite that young, but... yeah, even a modern isometric like Wasteland 3 is hard for me to enjoy since you're constantly clicking to do every minor task.
It's a cycle. How about we post some good mods for whichever game this time? Here's a neat weapon's pack.
Oh hey, that looks nice. Even has B42 Optics support. I tried the Wasteland AR pack and it turns out that yes, you can indeed have too many types of AR around at once. Another Milennia and its add-on have to be my current fav gun pack, with Tactapack coming in a close second. I don't think I can praise B42 Optics enough. Xilandro is definitely an ass probably 90% of the time, but he does make good shit. His leaning mod is also great, and the best part is they're both esp-less.

As to non-gun mods, Titans of the New West. Walking into the Hidden Valley bunker is way more intimidating than in vanilla when you see and hear these giant chonky guys and gals stomping around on the grating. I really need to figure out how to make it work with PAVE since PAVE has much higher quality models and textures, even if they lack the stompy goodness of TotNW.
The varmint rifle was supposed to be a .22 at first, but they thought it was too underpowered.
Considering how big even the common rat is, never mind molerats and geckos, 5.56 is pretty much mandatory for a varmint rifle in the world of Fallout. Hell, its the preferred weapon for anything coyote-sized now, so no reason it wouldn't keep that status 200 years after the atom bombs fell. Sawyer and Avellone were damn good about their guns in New Vegas, even including the not very well-known PGM Hecate II in lieu of yet another Barrett that they were tired of seeing.

Or as Gun Jesus calls it since he can't speak French for shit despite his fondness for so many of their guns, the "Heck-It".
To be fair there are somewhat modern firearms that do fit in Fallout like the PMG Hecate II, it was literally was in New Vegas. I would argue any firearm up to around the mid 90s or so is fairly fair game just because of how New Vegas and the older games included some real world firearms. I think its only really an issue when you get people throwing shit like modern day optics and post turn of the Millenia fire arms into it and just trying to handwave it as "lore friendly" due to the Gunrunners and shit.
FO2 had the goddamn G11 and P90 in it. I think there are more G11's in FO2 than exist in private hands in the modern day.

And besides, considering the basic goddamn laser rifle runs off a microfusion reactor that can fit in the palm of your hand (no, that name is not just a meme), fancy railed shit isn't exactly out of the question. Considering the bombs fell in 2077 (or fifty years from now) there's every chance half the guns we find that aren't made of scrap or by the Gunrunners (or hell, even by the Gunrunners) are some weird replica made for nostalgia reason. You know, like the lever actions in .357 and .44 Magnum people use nowadays that show up in NV.
