Its so funny seeing one of the more "RPG" missions in the game, outside of the Wasteland Guide of course, in F3 is "You've got to shoot them in the head". Possibly it too was one of the earlier designed missions, so Bethesda had more time and "fucks" to give to make it beefier.
The ghoul wants you to kill bigots that think ghouls are zombies that can only die with a shot to the head. I wont give a rundown of the mission but basically there are many options to approach each target and obtain the keys and see what they open and how there might be more to this than simply "killing bigots"... It is surprisingly varied in their approaches to getting it done and one of the few missions in F3 that actually feel "RPG-ish" akin to the first two entries.
Why am I telling you this? Because I still get blown away that Bethesda allowed one of their most iconic missions in F3 get its literal title get completely ass fucked by the amazon TV show by making ghouls now literal zombies you gotta shoot in the head, otherwise they wont die. It literally goes against what ghouls want people to see them as but sure, now they are unargurably zombos. And honestly, I think people really dont seem to appreciate how, despite its flaws, F3 surprisingly treated the lore way better than F4, 76 and the amazon series ever did as you can feel that nothing really overstayed its welcome or stretched too much what was already established and you can even argue that the design of ghouls felt close enough to what we saw in F1/2 (they look like fucked up radiation burn victims, some even looking like their skin melted a bit).
And I literally had a shower thought, "What is even the fucking serum? Is it rad-way? Would rad-way even do anything to ghouls? It would possibly be poison if anything. Is it FEV? Why would there be serums of FEV around? Who's making them? Who's selling them?" And I legit dont care if someone tries to say "uh awhktually" me because while I havent watched this series beyond clips and reviews I also dont care to do so for very much obvious reasons because it ultimately comes down to how the serum is a bad retcon that raises a comical amount of questions that you know arent going to be answered and, if they are, not in way that satisfies people that actually give a shit because this series isnt MADE for people that would ask said questions.
Its funny because I almost dont care about ghouls in Fallout and yet Im all over these retcons relating to them, perhaps as a matter of principles towards the established lore.
But whatever, it dont matter, we literally had Jet in a Vault and the writer of the quest eventually resorted to the "Shut up, its fiction, nerds" card so why did I expect any different?
The more Bethesda does on this franchise, the more I start to both appreciate F3 more and see it as a dud because outside of it, the company's handling of the IP has been pretty piss poor at the best of times.
So what you're saying is that we need to lock Emil in a room for a week and have him write for the next Starfield DLC or Fallout 5 to improve the writing, then? Not like that's a high bar to reach. If he ODs by accident, even better.
I can never do that, I'd "forget" to drop by food and water.
3 days should do the trick...
