The part with the disease from Vault 81 is interesting, since I just tried it.

And I could rest just fine in a bed. Even in Survival mode. Both in the NextGen and rollback.

And holy shit, now I remember why I quit interacting with half the fandoms.

The last few pages read like some No Mutant's Allowed shit.

And I could rest just fine in a bed. Even in Survival mode. Both in the NextGen and rollback.
It doesn't for me, altho I never updated my game past a certain point. That means this was a problem at launch and was only fixed with a patch, that doesn't count when this game is known for breaking shit every single update(most notoriously in the most recent "next gen update" that was so bad it broke most mods and delayed release of London). Either way, this is unacceptable, what was QA doing? You even get a bed for free from that resolution, you're telling me nobody bothered to test if you can rest there afterwards?
Also, if that exploit where you can keep the cure by dropping it on the floor is still in the game, that either means that the devs somehow don't know about it, know about it but don't care or as it is often the case, the issue cannot be fixed without overhauling their shitty engine. If they fixed the cure problem, there is no way they didn't know about this, or the Bobby-Tina problem I outlined either and yet neither are fixed.

There is no scenario where The Chosen One would have been able to join The Enclave, and the other alternative is just letting the world die, since that's what happens if you don't blow up The Oil Rig.
The world dying is exactly what happens if you inject the FEV virus into the purifiers water supply. As cartoonishly evil as that ending is at least you have the option to do it if you want to .

New Vegas had an ending planned where The Courier would have gone to Mojave Outpost and went back to California, ending the game prematurely. You know why that ending wasn't included? Because it sucks, and nobody would have went for it.
It would have been a cool easter egg , just like the evil Dead Money ending, don't know why they felt the need to remove that optional ending option, it would have made the game even better imo.

You're acting like you just thought of something nobody has ever heard of, when this point has been debunked to hell and back all the way back in 2009. Even the Megaton mockery lasted longer before it got boring(well, it's still funny to me even today, at least).
Mocking Megaton's very existence is 100% valid, criticizing Fallout 2s ending is 100% valid, there's nothing to debunk here, both games suffer from a lack of real rpg elements it's that simple.
Again, creating a strawman to attack older games does not excuse the shortcomings of Bethesda titles, and never will. Anyone trying to argue using this logic already lost before they begun because they admitted their game sucks, it won't suck any less even if you pull some sort of internet W out of your ass.
Fallout 3 for all it's shortcomings ( and there are many ) is the only Bethesda game that came close to reaching the same level of quality and the OG games and New Vegas. There's a lot of justified criticism you can level at the game, just don't forget that even the OG games aren't exactly the flawless masterpieces that some people like to pretend that they are.

Except that's not what happens, if you install Broken Steel the most that happens usually is that people get stomach cramps or have to go to the hospital. You have to drink a lot of water for your own character to die, and at the end of the day this is just one pool of water, most wastelanders will eventually go back to drinking radioactive water when they realize what happened. Nobody dies nearly instantly like in Fallout 2 when The Enclave uses their FEW, the plan is a dud and Eden is a retard, just like how everything in Fallout 3 tries to ape an older title but does it worse.

You can criticize both games all you want, but lack of RPG elements only applies to Bethesda entries. Fallout Tactics is a better RPG than Fallout 3. Also, there is nothing to debunk because this retarded argument was debunked nearly 20 years ago, you are way too late on that train.

Fallout 3 is a half-functioning tech demo and that's all it will ever be. The only way to even play the game until very recently was via New Vegas and TTW, which is pretty telling.

You're in a loop again. Try something new?
Am I wrong? I don't think so. Try talking about the same topic for nearly 20 years, you will find it easy to put down flawed arguments that have no ground to stand on, too, since you've seen them a dozen times over by then in every possible variation. Fallout 3 is not only a broken mess, but broken in ways I have not seen any other game be since, not to mention that it is pretty much just an Oblivion mod on a technical level. Pretty mod, but a mod never the less, hence "Oblivion with Guns" moniker(which is pretty spot on, as the first thing the devs did when working on the game was to make the crossbow fire in full auto. Here is your "Assault Rifle", lmao).

Anyways, you want to know why New Vegas is still talked about positively today? It's not even because of the story or the worldbuilding or the balancing or anything like that. Because it is the finished product, it fixed nearly every problem Fallout 3 has. 3 only exists as a tech demo so that New Vegas could be made a reality, and later Tale of Two Wastelands. Even the modding scene was pathetic compared to what came later with NV, talk about real amateur hour, altho I don't expect too many people here to be around at that time to remember. Actually, you don't need to be, just look how dead-end Fallout 4 modding is compared to the 15 year old NV, which still has dedicated autists working on it around the clock. Nobody ever fixed 4, this right there would be the fate of 3's modding scene if Obsidian never came along, so you should thank your lucky stars you can play Fallout 3 halfway competently with TTW nowdays. Never would have been possible if the game was left to it's own devices, because it is an unfinished, broken tech demo, an Oblivion total overhaul mod sold in stores for $60. This isn't a controversial opinion, it is a fact. Even 76 has something going for it, so that it can't just be called a Fallout 4 multiplayer mod, which it originated as btw.

To everyone that vehemently despises Bethesda and their Fallout games just remember that the last Interplay made Fallout game was Brotherhood of Steel, you literally can't go lower than that game.
Just be thankful that Fallout 3s existence allowed the Goat ( New Vegas ) Fallout game to be created.

I don't think anyone is going to deny BOS was a POS, that meme is older than most posters here. That said, anyone who thinks Fallout 3 was anything but a stepping stone to New Vegas/Fallout 4 is delusional. On it's own, it is about as forgettable as Fallout Tactics, the only reason it is remembered is because a horde of console niggers played this back in the day as their "first RPG", same as with Skyrim. In a better world, when judged solely on how good it is as an RPG or a follow up to Fallout 2, it would be forgotten. Honestly, I will take that any day to keep the franchise still relatively niche and hidden even if it means we don't get New Vegas or other later games.

Am I wrong?
It's not a matter of right or wrong, it's a matter of being a broken record. It's really tiring to read WORDSWORDSWORDS only for the end point being able to be summed up in a literal post number for a post you wrote months ago.
Take a break and Play The Game for a bit, or share some stories. Literally anything relevant besides this for another 20 pages.
Please.
just remember that the last Interplay made Fallout game was Brotherhood of Steel
Do snowclones count as main titles? I think not, but many people treat Faggot: Bitchnigger of Shitshow as the main and BG: DA2 as the snowclone despite being the vastly better game (relatively) than the postnuclear variant.
I guess getting half your Fallout team gutted or handing it to the B-Team probably didn't help matters.
E: goddamnit josh why are smilies still added post-process and not checked in the preview menu

Fallout: New Vegas.

First 30 seconds of the game and the NPC's head is slowly rotating like clock hands.

F:NV was a buggy fucking mess at launch.
FO3 was top of the line at the time for a paid mod of the Oblivion Engine, but people had fun with it. It looked like shit and a lot of stuff didn't make sense, but it had a giant robot killing people, so that was cool.

It was even better if you stripped the shitty green filter off of it.

And none of the games are actually RPGs. The interactions between the PC and the NPCs are secondary to a lot of points.

Skyrim is the closest, and has the "you gain XP by doing things to be used to improve that thing" has been a decent method of advancing characters.

Back in the day Honest Hearts didn't send Walks with Cock as essential and if you were too fast on the draw and too accurate you could accidentally splatter his fucking dipshit brains all over the map and instantly fuck the DLC.

Dead Money wasn't that big of a deal if you blew their leg or arm off. So much for the "ghost people" when I just blow their fucking leg off and they never come back.

Lonesome Road and that long winded fucker. Again, he's standing there thinking he looks cool and you're better off just doming him and moving the fuck on.

But sure, fucking nitpicking everything to fucking death.

And it's weird, since I NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH THAT VAULT 81 CURE AND SLEEPING since fucking launch.
Screenshot 2025-08-18 155503.webp

And I've installed a SHITTON of mods and don't have problems. Some of my saves have like 90+ hours into them.

Screenshot 2025-08-18 155553.webp

My current new one is 15 hours in and I haven't had a single crash.

Screenshot 2025-08-18 155739.webp

The complaint about the "You can exit teh conversation, throw it on the ground, and the game acts like you still have it!!!" as how the game is trash is just fucking nit-picking.

>Convo Starts
>Checks for Vault 81 Cure
>Vault 81 Cure found
>Continue Convo
BREAK CONVERSATION
DROP CURE
CONTINUE CONVERSATION
>OK, give cure to child please

LOL QUEST BROKEN!

You deliberately broke the fucker. Of course you can do shit that doesn't make sense when you go out of the way to break something.

And the whole "I CAN'T BREATHE SLEEP!" is fucking mystifying since I was able to since launch.

And the complaints about the Junkie Genius? How it that I got her to go to my settlements so easy? Sure, there's a a mod to fix it so it's easier now, but I got him help, got him on addictol, then she volunteered to meet me at Starlight Drivein, where she was when I went there next.

I hate the guided tour to the point I avoid that vault. With SS2 up, I can't avoid it, so sooner or later I have to do it.

The "power armor or clean suit" bug with the Mole-Rat disease was fixed with a mod.

And the Fallout Community is hilarious.

"There's bugs, fix them."
>Releases patch
"NOOOOO! MY MODERINOS! MY HECKIN MODERINOS!"

I replayed FO3 recently for the hell of it. Not the old version, which has been delisted and I can't even find, but the final we promise no more patches version.

It help up surprisingly well. I had to mod out the ugly green bullshit.
Screenshot 2025-08-18 160034.webp

I then played NV with only a mod to strip out the brown filter.

Screenshot 2025-08-18 160001.webp

Again, not that bad. Sure, there's shit that needs modded to fuck.

But LOTS of quests can be broken easily in any game.

Played Skyrim too.

Screenshot 2025-08-18 160922.webp
Again, not bad. Just the ENB and a touch of visual.

Again, they hold up.

While there aren't any TRUE RPGs out there (Not even Baldur's Gate 3, Secret of the Silver Blades, Pool of Radiance, Bard's Tale, Eye of the Beholder, Roadwar Europa) the Fallout Series and the Elder Scrolls series don't do a bad job.

If you want a REAL RPG, I guess you can go to Roll20
Screenshot 2025-08-18 161238.webp

But then you'd have to interact with real people or DM's telling you to shut the fuck up with your weird bullshit and play the fucking game.

EDIT: Little cool thing in case you didn't find out, but since launch on FO4, you can give Cogsworth a bowler hat and he can wear it. Dogmeat can wear welding goggles and a stars & stripes bandanna and play with a teddy bear if you give it to him.

A little MATI, but you are right in some points.
Eh, not mad, just effortposting while I got some precombines cooking. (It can take a while)

One thing I saw upstream... ah, there it is..

Unfortunately instead of anything realistic or plausible we get a pile of absolute garbage with literal scrap weapons made out of rusty pipe and gamified mechanics such as receivers magically making bullets do more or less damage because uh... reasons.
Lower reciever making it do more damage I can agree is weird.

TOTAL receiver with the chamber though? Increased barrel chambering. Better gas sealing. IDK, but it made sense somewhat. Same with changing the caliber. (Fucking guntwitter will show all kinds of wild shit)

Still, with mods, you get some real shit.

Screenshot 2025-08-18 164647.webp
I love the Halloween skin for weapons. Arm all my settlers with that shit while I run America Rising 2. (Enclave for Life, you pussies!)

Screenshot 2025-08-18 164441.webp
Thirty Year Old LMG Platform. (Feel old yet?)

Screenshot 2025-08-18 164537.webp
Got this off a raider like 10 minutes ago. Seriously.
A SIXTY YEAR OLD WEAPON! LOL (Now I feel old)

Screenshot 2025-08-18 164718.webp
THREE WORLD WARS!!! It's the Kaiser Hitter, the Nazi Splitter, the China Ripper!

THE EM NINETEENELEVENAYEONE! FORTY FIVE ACP 4 LYFE, BITCH!

Anyway, sure, the pipe weapons are fucking annoying as shit, but the rest of it can be fun, especially when modded.

MATI + Magenta Text, therefore subhuman
Idk, i just took the explosive combat shotgun and fuck everyone.
It's a crime how there is so little actually useful weapon effects in 4, and yet those that are good break the game easily. Explosive shotgun is good, but consider an explosive minigun. Bleeding ripper is pretty much a game over too, and yet most of these weapons are at a mercy of RNG you will likely not ever see in a playthru. You will just get another exterminator's rolling pin or mutie slayer raider left leg you will never use.

Idk, i just took the explosive combat shotgun and fuck everyone.
Oh, that thing rules.

"FUCK YOU AND EVERYONE AROUND YOU!"
>Turns Skinny Malone and his boys into meat confetti.

OK, instead of bitching, here's something.

FIRST THING FIRST!!!

Disable that retarded fucking HD pack from Bethesda. It causes crashes, black/brown face, and other fucked up shit visually.

Install ENB. It's fucking easier than fuck. You literally download ONE fucking file, unzip it in your main directory where FO4 dot exe sits.

Let's not make this too complicated. Just download Vortex and STFU. I don't feel like teaching anyone how to use MO2. (If you have Vortex or MO2 and know how to use it, nice! Good Modding, Brother!)

2K Textures Upgrade

This is part of what I run.

Winter Upgrade that I run about November just for fun.
28665-1514179681-699950085.webp

Grab one of the following to give yourself something cool:

Construction Power Armor It's standalone. (Found at the quarry just East of Red Rocket)

Midwest Power Armor Evolution (From the Fallout: Tactics game) It's a legit armor. Pretty nice. (Found by the crashed vertibird in the lake east of STarlight)

Excavator Power Armor (From: Fallout 76) An interesting one I don't really use. (Also in the Quarry)

I prefer the Midwest on my runs if I run PA at all.

OK, now to change up your game a bit since you have 200+ hours in it.

You'll want MCM to have better control of your mods.
MCM

Now, I hate the NPCs in this shit, but some people love it. I'm not going to waste time looking up the links.

Depravity (Allows you to be a slaver and the like. I dislike the NPCs <There's a literal fucking Harley Quimm Cosplayer> and the opening where they take all your shit)
Outcasts & Remnants (I've heard some people like it)

Then there's:

REP THE ENCLAVE, BABY!
American Rising 2
I haven't reached the end because I keep getting sidetracked or make a new character (I have horrible Alt-itis in a lot of games)

Then:

Sim Settlements 2
Chapter 2
Chapter 3

There's a full combine of them, but I just jumped this for you.

Rise of the Commonwealth for SS2 (More Settlement Plans)

Tiny Living (1x1 plots)

There's a ton of addons for it. Be careful, too many and you'd have to do the BA2 unpacking and repacking trick and that's tough as fuck if you don't know what you're doing.

So, you're OK far.

If you added one of those (there are compatibility patches to run all 3 at once) then your game is COMPLETELY different.

Now, don't fucking stress killing those kid on the Prydwen or whatever. It's the wasteland, if the kids aren't bastards they'd probably grow up to be raiders anyway.

If you want to facelift the Minutemen (I prefer to) you can militarize them or whatever. The BoS visual upgrade is OK but I don't bother with it any more.

I'd advice CBBE because HOLY SHIT ARE BETHESDA'S MODELS FUCKING UGLY.

I'm sick of ugly as fuck characters, so I download CBBE and give everyone big fucking titties and a bubble butt, add in better hair, teeth, and eyes (because I have to look at them when I'm talking to them), and I also go for the "Classy Chassis" overhauls as well as the "50's Retro" looks.

But CBBE and Looksmenu are involved and I don't feel like doing a writeup when there are much better ones out there. If you are going to be playing for long, I'd recommend:

CBBE
(Glorious Skin. Glory to your nude mod!)
Knee fix
Bodyslide
Looksmenu
Tats
Azar's Ponytail Hair (There's a version for physics too if you run physics)
Commonwealth Cuts (You don't have to have all the hair packs)
Male Hairstyles
More Female Hair Styles
Male Facial Hair
Hair Texture Upgrade
KS Hairdos with physics (This is what I use)
LOTS of hair colors
Better Teeth
Better Eyes
Classy Chassis if that's your thing (Here's the faction One. Just search for Classy Chassis. I like them, but your milage may vary)
Good clothing packs
1950's Female Pack

I also like the Scouter, the Face Mask, and the Headset (I had to mod that one)

Otherwise, everything still looks like ass because Bethesda is full of dangerhair faggots who hate tits and ass.

You can grab weapon packs for more modern weapons. Normally I don't, but this run-through I decided to give it a shot.

Then there's tons of melee weapons in this. I'm loading it because I love the Gravity fist and giving it to Strong.

MCAM

When I say: There's a mod for that, I'm not kidding. You name it, there's a mod for it. And more than just sex or titty mods (I love Titty mods, personally) stuff to patch or otherwise alter the game to your contentment.

It's a sign of how bad Starfield is when there isn't even a decent nude pack for it and Batman: Arkahm Asylum has a nude pack for Harley and Poison Ivy and Catwoman.

Molerat fix (TEN years old)

Here's a Tina Deluca mod with AI, 2 years old

Another recruitment for Tina Deluca, only adding Bobby and Combes

This one

Nora as a companion is fun. You can also grab the mod so that it's Nate if you're playing Nora.

If you don't want to run Sim Settlers 2 (Or you just want the plots, I'll tell you how in a minute)

Alternate Start mods are pretty cool and some have expansions.

OK, with an alternate start mod you MIGHT run into a bug where either the group stays in the Concord Museum or Jake doesn't register Concord as cleared. (Don't alternate start with Sim Settlements 2 if you don't want to run the risk. It literally happens at Gen time). If you don't care about Sim Settlments' story, you can go into the tape and just grab ALL the plot types and designs. That way you can build to your heart's content.

As far as weather mods:

True Storms (I run this solo)
Vivid Weathers
Combination Patch if you prefer
You can add NACX if you want.

BUT, even if this is all you add (Add the Strong Milk Machine armor for Lulz) it'll change your game big time.

If you want any other mod recommendations, ask me.

Added here is the Shower mod. It's kind of neat to have. It has dirt and other modifiers. It isn't available anywhere as far as I know any more, and I found it on a backup hard drive from like 5 years ago. Enjoy being one of the few people who know where they can download this mod.

ONE THING IF YOU DECIDE TO MOD!
Try to avoid anything that has armor keywords or settlement keywords.

Unless you know what you're doing or someone is willing to help you, be wary of any mods older than 2 years.

And as far as I know, the FO4 Universal Patch is still OK despite the fact Artmoor is apparently the faggiest fag to ever fag.

Edit: You won't believe how nice it is not to have to put up with fucking Preston or the Railroad or the fucking Brotherhood. You just do it yourself because fuck the Institute.

I have a mod for the drive-in in Far Harbor to make it a settlement, as well as one for Fiddler's Green Trailer Park. (Both are cleaned up) I've found them both to work well.

This mod might help you on your Nuka World playthrough.

Red Rocket Nuka World

Another one that some people like but I haven't used: Assign Red Rocket

Rebuild the Red Rocket
(You'll need this too)
OR
REBUILD EVERYTHING!!!

Like I said, you can rebuild FO4 to your delight.

I run a lot of foliage, lots of animals (rabbits and ducks and foxes), wandering traders, stuff like that.

If you have subscribed to Nexus you can use the Collection system.

I'd recommend StoryWealth for your first one. Just follow the instructions, it's easy as fuck. It'll just take you hours to download, depending on your internet speed.

Anyway, Happy Gaming, fellow Autists.

Edit 2:

[MATI + Magenta Text, therefore subhuman

Assumes mad on the internet, not confident to rock Magenta or Pink with a female survivor = fag who bitches about shit and offers nothing.

As far as the Legendaries, well...

There's a mod for that, you pathetic mouthbreather.

I use one that lets me remove the microchip and then build my own Legendaries into weapons.

If you want to just run gamebreaking miniguns, just hit the ` key and type tgm then.

EDIT THREE!!!

Crime & Punishment is an excellent mod that I find very enjoyable. Read the mod page and read the instructions. It's REALLY involved.

Advanced Needs is the REAL survival mod. Add it in with MAIM and it's really really tough and fun.

MAIM - Rebuilds the damage system. Get ready to have your 75th level character capped in the side of the head.

Workshop Framework if you want to help out your workshop.

Game Configuration Menu if you REALLY want to adjust shit, including legendary weapon drops, legendary spawns, and the like.

EDIT FOUR:

Tech Mask is fun.
Institute Clean Suit - You'll see this show up right away.
Headset - I had to edit this and then I lost my copy. It requires Armor Keywords, so I don't use it any more. BUT if you liked Armor Keywords, this can be a good look.
Red Colored Welding Goggles - Give them to your settlement guards to quickly ID them! (And they look badass) Also, Dogmeat looks cool in them
The DBZ Scouter - Looks cool. Got mods to change the lens color and stuff. Also one for Dogmeat!
Body Armor for Dogmeat
REQUIRED DOGMEAT MOD!!! - He now no longer counts as a companion
Dogmeat fixes
Dogmeat can't open doors
Diggers is good if you don't like Sim Settlements. Might have to find a few patches tho. Don't remember.

That's a basegame engine bug that still crops up even with fixes.
That being said, the pack is still an unstable hunk of garbage and you're better off without it, yeah.
Its funny, because it's so goddamn basic. It has to do with texture size differences making the engine bug the fuck out.

Even with the NextGen update they didn't fix it. Hell, if anything, it made it worse.

I had no problem rolling back because the NextGen update was trash and broke like 90% of my mods.

Seriously, it's not that hard either considering we've had plausible weapons and even weapons based on real life weapons in the series for a while now. But no, we get the anti-gun gun design. As for the system having its potential squandered...yeah I'm not surprised, it's Bethesda. Making receivers that add minor buffs/debuffs and nothing else is as they need to add for them to start touting it as an ARPEEGEE mechanic. Shame the fast majority of mods that takes full advantage of this system are mostly tacticool mods, though there are some really neat mods that make it so changing the parts of the weapon changes its behavior entirely rather than "shooter faster, hit harder."

Part of it comes from the fact that the people who make the game have probably never handled an actual firearm in their life and know nothing about them.

Fucking Shadowrun 1E had a better weapon mod system and that was just adding a laser sight.

One thing that sucks is there used to be some legit good weapon mod mods out there, but Nexus mods fucking with authors and laying all kinds of draconian bullshit caused a lot of authors to leave and delete their mods, to the point where Nexus said "LOL, nope, you leave, we still keep your mod!"

I had one that had decent changes to the weapon stats. Higher rate of fire for lower receiver changes, more damage due to chamber pressure adjustment, range change by the barrel length, accuracy by barrel twist, stuff like that.

I was tempted to try to create one, but it fell apart and I'm not sure what I did.

Stock and buffer spring design really help with recoil, as well as weapon weight, but those mouth breathing retards at Bethesda don't know that.

Oh, shit, I forgot about these absolutely essential mods!!!

Garage Sale - Sell shit yourself instead of to vendors.
Scrap Everything - It works gud but add THIS
Scrapyard - Get better scrap depending on your scrapper level

Wash Dirty Clothes = Which is nice if you like clean settlers

I mod FO4 more than 3 or NV. NV just needs a few tweaks here and there, FO3 just needs a touch or two. Skyrim I completely overhaul because I played it once and that was good.

If you're going to dip your toes into modding, the post I had up there and this list is pretty good. It should scratch your itch.

Two things though:

There is a BA2 limit. To fix that you have to use a pretty complicated tool.
There is a mod limit unless you download .esl files. It's 255. If you're using vortex, go to "Plugins" (the left hand side) and then click "Might Be Light" over at the right at the top. That will show you all the ones you can safely change to light and that'll save you.
