Doomed, return to start, Troika had the misfortune of the Black Isle curse that all of that studio's descendants have. That said, Arcanum and VtM:B were great so maybe a game set in a totally civilized area where the quests are about politics and culture, with the occasional dungeon.

Only one notable example comes to mind, and falls under the same criteria: Eidos Interactive

The company acquired Crystal Dynamics in 1998, and owned numerous other assets. In 2005, parent Eidos was taken over by games publisher SCi. The combined company, SCi Entertainment Group, which was briefly renamed Eidos, was itself taken over by Square Enix in 2009.

Square Enix completed the merger with Eidos Interactive by November 2009, absorbing it primarily into group company Square Enix Limited (also known as Square Enix Europe).

I'm not sure if they count under the criteria you're asking but it's the only example which flashes out as one.

Square Enix did show an obvious bias towards their Japanese franchises/studios over their Western ones (Deus Ex Mankind Divided sold better than Final Fantasy Lightning Returns and on a lower budget but guess which studio received layoffs), but similar to the monkey paw of Bethesda acquiring Fallout, it gave us a couple Deus Ex games, revived Hitman, and gave us the best non-GTA clone that wasn't Saints Row 2 (Sleeping Dogs).

The monkey paw wasn't that the Deus Ex games were contentious (Mankind Divided had some of the worst marketing ever and was inspired by IRL political shit at the time alongside a non-ending for an ending), that Absolution was a terrible Hitman game specifically, or that Sleeping Dogs failed to make waves – but that the success of all these kept Square Enix Europe alive long enough to fund Life is Strange.

Because Emil is a hack who thinks that "family" and soap opera drama is one of the main themes he wants to shove into Fallout for whatever reason. Every plot hook for the franchise going forward has to have telenovela bullshit for this reason.

I can handle Todd ruining the entire IP if that means we got New Vegas.

I feel the same, especially since New Vegas has such a high quality modding community, you can effectively make it a new experience each time you play.

New Vegas is my favorite of all the games though so I guess I am biased, if you really love the isometric ones I can see it maybe not being worth it but Van Buren seemed like it was going to be even goofier and more retarded than Fallout 2.

The "you were born here you will die here" line in the opening originally describing vault 101 later meaning the Franklin memorial and project purity is so cheesy i can't truly hate fallout 3s story.

Bethesda and Todd got upset and turned Fallout into a FPS game and MMO loot based shooter instead of hiring NV writers to make an actual RPG.

Not even just the nv writers getting literally any other competent studio to make another fallout game because slop arguments aside we could have easily gotten 2 or 3 more fallouts and the tv show doing anything regarding lore and setting might not have been this bad

There has been mentions to the midwest brotherhood in 3 and New Vegas, but i would have liked a Tactics 2 or a more fleshed out game/lore on them.

Bethesda really needs to bite that bullet and do something with Tactics lore. If they want to reuse vault 0 just rewrite Tactics to not include it or have the calculator not involve itself in the plot. Like others have said they established the bos in 3 as an off shoot of the west coast bos so they should have done this by now.

Cause he is a bad writer who relies too much on the player using their own feelings for their dad/son as a replacement for actual storytelling

Well, to start, it is even less of a role-playing game than 4 is, which is impressive as far as feats go. It falls squarely into the "questionable and painfully 00's trash Interplay was putting out" that Brotherhood of Steel is the other half of, and the reason why anyone who would posit, for even a solitary moment, that Van Buren would be good, is an idiot. It is needlessly edgy, pointless, completely ignores the established aesthetics and visuals, and is not particularly interesting or compelling from a gameplay perspective. The only thing it has going for it is vehicles.

The only smart business decision Interplay made in that era was selling the rights to make Fallout games to Bethesda.

Interplay made a ton of terrible business decisions around that time. Imagine going all-in on advertising for Star Trek: Klingon Academy (who the fuck wants to play a game about being a fucking Klingon officer cadet?) and doing zero marketing for the sequel to FreeSpace.

Given the pivot would theoretically have changed history and that the whole reason the studio ate shit was no funding, a Fallout 3 by Troika might've staved off the curse.
Not for long, mind you, so the IP very well might've ended up in Bethesda's hands anyways and only changed Fallout 3(beth) to an early 2009 release, but i can see a better timeline than our current one.

that's a stupid term. yeah sure some people take their affection of something they enjoyed as a youngun and they go way too far with it, but for god's sake at least try to understand how such a thing could take root in a person's heart. there's a reason why there's so many sixty and seventy year olds that live and breathe star wars, it was just fucking good in a way that few movies were during that period of cinematic history. when something stands out amongst the heaps of garbage in your era, you tend to see it as more of a jewel than it might be. take that jewel out of the garbage and inspect it on its own, and it's harder to understand. it's the same principle as all the little zoomies "re-evaluating" the star wars prequels as misunderstood gems. i really don't know what the current generation values, because it seems like the most generic, overblown shit imaginable like fortnite, but maybe i'm doing the same shit they're doing when they say unc slop.

It is frightening how much Star Wars and Fallout's current situation rhyme.

- Both had sequels made by people not involved with the creation of the IP
- In both sequels the world building progress, some of it a result from the aid of the protagonists in the original entries, is absolutely destroyed, with reasons ranging from moronic "Politics are boring" to spiteful "It is not ours" to short sighted "It will be just like the original!"
- Both have a white female and a male black lead
- The black lead is an absolute tool that should know more and better but just doesnt
- The white lead is a bland piece of bread that somehow always comes out ontop of the situation
- Both play very loose with continuity to the point of absolute absurdity and making you wonder if all of this is even suppose to be in the same continuity
- Nearly nothing the previous leads did ultimately mattered as they are never/barely mentioned or are here just to be killed off if they are.
- Trying to replicate the "classic" magic while demonstrating a frightening lack of understanding of said magic
- Original villains absolutely suck ass
- Original factions have little to not backstory or presence
- Old villains/factions are brought in, a misguided attempt at luring back fans with nostalgia because the original material sucks
- An absolute misunderstanding and mishandling of the themes and messages of the setting.
- Normies absolutely fucking love the subversion stuff, why wouldnt they? They have only surface level investment
- Veteran fans are insulted
- Both IPs are worse off at the end as veterans will leave because, as they say, "it is not for you anymore" and tourists will leave because they never truly cared.

The problem is that zoomers and even millenials grew up in the beginning of the end. They dont get what is like to be "attached" and to "love" an universe and it's characters, even to the point where, if you do, it is "cringe" (what ISNT cringe to them these days?).

Not to simp for Disney, God no, but at least nu Star Wars seems to regret the direction of the Sequel Trilogy and are trying to memory hole it as hard as they can. It's why every new piece of SW media is either something set during the Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy or during The Mandalorian's Time which is essentially considered the new 'present time' of nu Star Wars as far as anyone is concerned.

I literally can't even think of the last time there was a Sequel Trilogy related thing aside from that canceled Rey movie. All that remains of the ST in the current pop culture zeitgeist is Galaxy's Edge.

Point is; Disney is at least seemingly capable of learning when to back down and try a different direction. Why is why they are pivoting so hard to keeping new shows and media set in the settings people actually gave a shit about like the aforementioned. Though of course, they still suck.

Were you watching The Mandalorian with your eyes closed? From day one it and all its connected shows have been about bridging the gap between the originals and the sequels. That's why the scientist wanted Grogu, he needed his midichlorians to work on cloning Palpatine. We see General Hux's dad from the Phasma novel in the Imperial Warlord conference call. The Book of Boba Fett shows us Luke building his Jedi academy that gets destroyed by Kylo. The Mandalorian season 3 finale has troopers in red First Order Stormtrooper armor. The Bad Batch season three was all about the Empire wanting to study Omega because she managed to have midichlorians in her bloodstream despite being a clone of Jango Fett (although I feel like the bigger question is where she got a vagina). Skeleton Crew explains where Leia got the funding for The Resistance. The Acolyte was going to explain the origins of the Knights of Ren had it not been cancelled (thank god). Finally, Jakku is going to be a racetrack in the upcoming SW racing game, but I can't even fault them for that because pod racing or swoop racing through the wreckage of a Star Destroyer sound kind of badass. Basically every show has been about explaining "Somehow Palpatine Returned."

There's also been a shit ton of sequel stuff in publishing. There was a book about Finn I didn't read, a book about Leia training Rey I didn't read, and Legacy of Vader which is probably the only good piece of sequel era fiction. There was also a Battle of Jakku comic, but I don't think that really counts since it's effectively retelling the story from a mobile game they killed a decade ago.

Also isn't the Fallout show effectively a New Vegas show at this point?

Seriously one good game out of several (including what they have in the future) bastardizations of the IP is hardly worth it even if I do really like NV, plus the absolute cancer that is the community now (I'll take the autism of NMA over Plebbit), yeah no I'd rather it die than be under Bethesda.
