but some situations feel downright cheap like those mutants in the basement of the rocket museum (I only got away thanks to the insanely powerful shotgun I had).
Have you done the quest at the motel before? The one about the guy who is at the top of the dinosaur.

Since we're talking about NV, perhaps you all can help me.

I got the Ultimate Edition off GOG sometime ago, and I don't know if I just suck at the game or if I'm going at it wrong. Right now I'm doing missions for Jason Bright, and I got myself stuck trying to get that part that I don't have nearly enough money for nor do I have the bartering skill to get it for free. But even beyond that, I keep getting killed by everything and I only survive because of the overpowered weapons and armor I have because I'm playing on the Ultimate Edition. I put most of my points into guns and agility so I should be a somewhat decent gunfighter, but some situations feel downright cheap like those mutants in the basement of the rocket museum (I only got away thanks to the insanely powerful shotgun I had). I don't know if I'm rushing through the game and I'm underleveled or if I just plain suck at it.

It hasn't been all bad though; when I got to Nipton and the Legion members bragged about the size of their dicks and how they'd crucify anyone who got in their way, I blew them all to bits with my grenade launcher. I tell ya, that was satisfying.

Go grind and put some points into speech and barter skills (repair and medicine are good shouts too)

What's your level, TAG skill levels, and perks? Also what quests have you completed, what difficulty, and are you playing hardcore or not?

I don't think so? The guy at the top of the dinosaur was the one who sent me to that museum.

I tagged speech and repair so they're pretty high, I think.

Currently level 4, I tagged small guns (43), speech (36, thanks to low charisma), and repair (45). Perks are Educated, Rapid Reload, Skilled, and Small Frame. I have completed Cold, Cold Heart, My Kind of Town, Ghost Town Gunfight, By a Campfire on the Trail, Back in the Saddle, and Ain't That a Kick in the Head. I'm also on Normal mode and I'm not playing on Hardcore.

Honestly that's way too low for some of the more combat heavy missions.

I'm pretty sure I wandered around for a while and was at least in the double digits before I took on the musesum mission.

I was thinking that I was probably rushing through things. I went straight from town to town because I keep hearing that's the optimal mission path. I did the missions in the town then left for the next one (except Nipton because I realized I was too underleveled to fight the Legion in They Went Thataway).

Yeah but there's a quest about the sniper who wants to know what happened to his wife (the one who gives you a beret). If you find out, he will join you on your adventure. If I'm not mistaken, he's up there at night.
That said you might need a certain level of charisma/speech.

Do you have ED-E? He's surprisingly helpful, particularly at low levels.

Oh yeah, that other guy mentioned him. For some reason I didn't think about talking to him. I think I didn't connect that the other guy only comes to the dinosaur at night.

No, I don't have any companions. Matter of fact, I didn't even know who ED-E was until you mentioned him (well I do kinda, I noticed the broken robot in the Nash residence in Primm). I don't have either the science nor repair skill to fix him though and I wouldn't know where to find the parts to circumvent that.

New Vegas's paths are blocked by combat, there's nothing that would prevent you from going from Good Springs to New Vegas, it's a straight shot, except you'd get killed along the way.

If you're only level 4 and you're on bad terms with the powder gangers it may be worth while to just start over.

You could easily hit level 5 - 10 just doing missions around Good Springs for people.

In lonesome road would it make sense for an enclave character to launch the nukes at one both or none?

Looking at my stats again, I am shunned by the Powder Gangers, but according to the wiki I can enter the prison. I'm not outright vilified. I guess I assumed that I wouldn't be allowed there at all given the reputation system.

I did most of the missions in Goodsprings though. I think this is what's bothering me about the game because I do most, if not all of the available missions and I'm still underleveled. Honestly it makes me feel like an idiot, and I know it's something I'm doing because with all the advice everyone's been giving me it seems to come natural to everyone else.

Depends what the background of the Enclave faction is in this scenario. If its something like the Remnants, where they have no hope of ever exerting themselves as a major force in the West, then nuke both out of spite. Conversely, if it is a resurgent Enclave with the potential of becoming one of the dominant factions, then maybe it would not be so wise to lay waste to such prosperous lands that are rich in resources and could be the object of conventional conquest.

I think part of it is you're reading guides and taking advice vs. just exploring naturally.

I set off North from Good Springs before heading west, then south, and walking that path I came across various enemies to fight, missions to take, and leveled up along the way.

I'm pretty sure I cleared the legion out of that town where they crucified people long before I ever got to the Rocket factory.

But it's been 10 years so it's hard to remember.

Dammit the loot is so good though I might just nuke them both but consider it "non canon" for the sake of the loot but damned if that dosen't betray the spirit of rp

I don't think it's that either, because I almost never looked at walkthroughs. That issue is I'm almost comically unobservant mixed with me following directly where the game is telling me to go without really deviating from the main path. Take the snipers at the top of the dinosaur; I talked to the daytime one, he tells me for like 5 minutes about the nighttime one but I didn't put two and two together until @Miller asked me today if I talked to the nighttime one. I also didn't explore because the game's quest directed I go to Novac through Nipton and I figured, "Okay," and just did that while also doing all the missions that came my way. I'm starting to think that's why I'm having a harder time because I didn't have the intuition to not do what the game told me to do.

To put it another way, when I'm left to my own devices I end up not noticing obvious stuff; the first time I got to Nipton I somehow missed the Legion entirely (hell I didn't even notice the damn crucifixions) and it wasn't until I went back and read about the town that I realized that they were still there.

I'm pretty sure I cleared the legion out of that town where they crucified people long before I ever got to the Rocket factory.
You pass through that town before you hit Novac which is where the rocket factory is. When I went back there after realizing I missed the Legion, I killed them as well (it wasn't that hard since I had a grenade launcher).
