Fallout series

You're better off getting the Enclave Remnants and the Boomers to do that. At least they're both easier to control since the former are just reasonable old folks while the latter swore to fight on your behalf. The Brotherhood with their own wackadoo religion needs to be put six feet under before they start bothering people for using tech that the BoS believes should belong to them.
The Boomers become a member state of the Confederacy of New Vegas*, which even I knew was too far of a leap for the Brotherhood to do the same. Between their loyalty to the Courier, minimal government oversight and the promise of target coordinates, I think Pearl would be down for it. I understand your reservations about the Brotherhood, but I'm not ready to hurl them into the dustbin of history just yet.

*For those who don't know, a confederacy or confederation is a level of governmental organization somewhere between a mutual defense pact and a federal union.

Personally if I had to deal with the Brotherhood I would try to appeal to the Maxonian fundamentalists. Ya know, those who believed in Roger Maxon's vision of the Brotherhood as the ones who would lead us out of the dark age and back into the light.

Might end up causing another civil war, but honestly it'd be pretty cool to see the original ideals of the Brotherhood's founder make a return.

That is sort of what I'm aiming at. Not so much conquering the world, but if they'd get out of their damned sad shack and gang up with the guys who know how to help a community become self-sufficient, that would go a long way towards getting humanity out of the dark age.

I am. Outside of the FO3 Brotherhood, they're either scum, worthless scum, or evil scum. Pick your poison.

And unlike the Enclave, they don't even invent their own toys. All they do is come at you with yesteryear's power armor.

I'd rather cast down their codex and bask in the dying agony of those who held it dear. Hey, if I'm forced to deal with assholes like the west coast BoS, I'll just go full Enclave and go nuts with them.

Lyons' Brotherhood are cool, tho. I'd share a fine glass of wine with them any day.

Then let me put it this way. I don't consider it beyond the realm of possibility that the Mohave chapter could end up in a similar position if properly nudged. It's a position that I want to see the Brotherhood in, I'm just salty that Bethesda jumped straight to it without really giving a fuck about how they got there.

It probably will go to shit, and it probably will end up with Securitrons massacring the Brotherhood of Steel, with House's ghost telling you "I told you so!" when it comes to the Brotherhood not being trustworthy.

Would love for there to be a joke mod or something that actually has House's ghost follow you and criticize your every move.

Anyway, I like the Brotherhood of Steel. But in a sense that I find the imminent demise of the Mojave chapter and the decisions that led them to there kind of fascinating. They had so much potential for bringing civilization back but the stubbornness of its leaders and their hoarding tendencies ruin all of that.

As I said, it'd probably warrant the NCR getting involved. Because nobody else will bother to tame them. And they would be stupid enough to attack the Courier if the latter wanted them to hold hands and share knowledge with the Followers.

Hopefully, someone will make that mod one day.

That's why I like the FO3 Brotherhood so much better. They actually listened to Roger Maxson when he said that preserving civilization was their goal, not just tech banditry. Too bad people criticized Bethesda for making the BoS good, so Bethesda countered by making them genocidal maniacs in FO4.

Everybody always bitches about how Bethesda made them knights who protect people when that's exactly what Roger Maxson intended them to be. In the early days of the Brotherhood they actually DID protect local settlements and hunt down raider gangs. But over time a lot of the other elders started whinging about how this was expending resources without getting anything in return because Maxson didn't make any demands of the communities under his protection. He didn't tell them they needed to provide him with a damn thing in exhange for doing what he felt was his job to do.
Owen Lyons had a lot of justification for redirecting the goals of the Brotherhood to be in line with the ideals of its founder. It's the Outcasts who spat on the grave of Roger Maxson by embracing their new identity as isolationist tech fetishists who refuse to step up and become the guiding light of humanity.

This is why I think there could one day be a coup by Maxsonian Fundamentalists. Every religion ends up with differing sects, and often times these sects end up waging war on each other. And it wouldn't be unreasonable if this were to happen.

Like, imagine if Sarah Lyons is still alive out there and ends up coming back and causing that very same civil war. Hell, could be the plot to an entire Fallout game.

Exactly. They were actually acting like real knights did, protecting the countryside and the commonfolk from harm. The only thing I would have changed was to make it so that it's a feudal state, and the people under their protection serve in material capacities. (ie. growing food, helping the Brotherhood scavenge tech, etc.)

Shit, if it's me and Sarah Lyons against the evil Brotherhood, sign me up for that game.

Still a better Call of Fallout than the Frontier.

Call of Fallout: The Fallen Brotherhood. How does that sound?

You fight to restore the Brotherhood's honor after ten years of Arthur Maxson's regime turned it into a murderous, ruthless band of thugs no better than Eden's Enclave. And you have Sarah Lyon recruiting you to do it, after your village got burned down by Arthur Maxson's goons for daring to hoard power armor and energy weapons to ward off local raiders and mutants.

Makes much more sense than having a Courier who still has shit to do for the NCR/House/Caesar or themselves suddenly going on a trip north all the way to fucking Portland to get involved in another pointless, God-forsaken war in the other side of the country for no apparent reason. Hey, at least the other DLC packs advertised themselves as signals you investigate or local jobs/treasure hunts that one can get interested in.

The NCR campaign still floors me. It seems to be made for people who like the NCR and support their war against the Legion, but why in the hell would a pro-NCR Courier JOIN FORCES WITH A BUNCH OF DESERTING TRAITORS!? The only reason a pro-NCR Courier would go that far up North would be to drag Blackthorne's ass back to California so he can stand trial for the crime of desertion. Or perhaps just to blow his brains out as a favor to Kimball and the NCR government.

Based off the devs' political views it just looks like they want to have their cake and eat it. They like the NCR because it has some nice current-day squishy and gooey liberal democratic values relative to the setting at least but dislike the warmongering in the Mojave so joining a bunch of 'exiles' that want to get rid of the warmongerers makes sense to them.

Project Valkyrie for FO4 involves her as an alternate Brotherhood contact and you can reform the Brotherhood to not be so stupid.

And now I might actually get Fallout 4.
The mod series that Valkyrie is part of is neat but if you haven't played FO4 by now then you should wait until a sale. I enjoyed it for what it was, but the game definitely does feel rough and unfinished, mainly where the main storyline is concerned.

I recommend getting an alternate start mod and a mod that lets you get the Prydwen arrival from doing the first BoS rescue.

And yet all the NCR Exiles did in Portland was more war-mongering against the Crusaders and the Legion. And their leader plans to return home to California to oust Kimball with his army. In a "non-violent" way. RIIIIIIIGHT. XD They really wanted to have their cake and eat it too.

The only reason the NCR is fighting the Legion in the base game is because the two of them are fighting over the Mojave and New Vegas. Post-apocalyptic Portland is not a place worth getting killed over, and there is no reason for a group of soldiers who deserted the NCR to continue the NCR's war against the Legion all the way out in the north. If anything, the NCR Exiles should have even more of a reason to work with the Legion there (they both hate the NCR government) and combine their forces to maintain a sense of law and order and keep the scav population low. But then if they do that, there'd be no war now, would there?

I've seen that mod. Not so bad, from the look of things.

There's a bit more to this, but I'm not surprised that it hasn't made its way into the public consciousness. The Frontier's setup is that Portland was being used as a staging area for the Alaska front prior to the war, which is where all the tanks, vertibirds and the fucking helicarrier come from. The Legion's objective in the Frontier is to unify the area under their control and expand their numbers in anticipation of a push south into the NCR at about the same time as Lanius crosses Hoover Dam, thus opening a second front and stretching the NCR to the breaking point. The Exiles, despite their problems with the NCR government, still believe in the concept of the NCR, and thus are fighting the Legion to prevent this from happening.

How the Courier gets involved into all this is still a mess, but the setup of the conflict isn't totally brainless.
