A grab of video footage showing local residents meeting with members of a drug gang before a violent conflict took place between the two groups in Mexico State last week.

At least 14 people were killed in a fight between members of a drug gang and local villagers last week after residents fought back against extortion demands, according to the Mexican authorities.

Ten of the people killed in Mexico state were members of the La Familia Michoacana cartel, and the rest were local farmers, Mexican authorities said. Amongst the dead was a cartel leader known as “Comandante Payaso” (Commander Clown), the alleged leader of La Familia in the region behind the rise in the extortion fee.

The clash happened on the afternoon of December 8 after members of La Familia Michoacana announced a rise in the extortion tax to the group of farmers in the small rural town of Texcaltitlán. The farmers were already each paying a Mexican peso per square meter (around $.060) to the criminal group. The cartel now wanted double, according to local news outlets.

Extortion is a major criminal market throughout Mexico, and a way that criminal groups use violence and territorial control for profit.

“We had a very bad year [of harvests] and we barely made enough money to pay the original extortion fee. With this increase we basically had no choice but to die fighting or die from hunger,” a local farmer from Texcaltitlán who asked to remain anonymous due to fear of retaliation, told VICE News in a phone interview.

On a gruesome video that spread on social media, residents and members of the drug gang can be seen arriving at the local soccer field where they both had agreed to meet to deliver the extortion money. The video shows a small group of people heavily armed with AK-47s and armored vests. Some were dressed in fake Mexican military uniforms.

After a few minutes talking, someone in the group fires a gunshot and hell breaks loose. The farmers, some of them armed with shotguns, machetes and sticks, begin to chase the alleged criminals. Some are killed with gunshots while others are hacked at with machetes.

A different video shows several charred bodies inside two white pickup trucks, allegedly members of La Familia Michoacana cartel.

“We told the Mexican army that this was going to happen because we were not going to pay anymore. We asked for their back up and no-one showed up,” the farmer told VICE News.

Commander Clown, one of the victims of the confrontation, had long been in the crosshairs of law enforcement. “[He} was a main target for us for his role in the criminal organization. We had several investigations ongoing to go after him,” said Andrés Andrade, chief of police of Mexico State.

La Familia Michoacana is a Mexican drug cartel founded in the late 1980s in the Mexican central state of Michoacán, although its presence is now mostly based in Mexico State, according to authorities.

In June 2022, eleven members of the same cartel were killed in the same town during a shootout against state police officers. The clash gained notoriety after the authorities found a spider monkey among the victims killed.

Graphic photos of the dead monkey wearing a green camouflage hoodie under a black tactical vest and a diaper were shared over social media.

11 cartel scum and sadly 3 farmers lost their lives.
That sucks that three farmers died. But that's a really good ratio. The La Familia Michoacana cartel probably lost half of their guys over a single town. I wonder if this cartel is just new or if they're all like this because I doubt they're use to civilians shooting back at them. In any case, I hope they got buck broken hard enough and don't return to the town for retribution.

If the government isn't going to do anything. what else are they supposed to do?

The way Mexican government works, the most likely outcome is that everyone in the village involved in fighting back against the cartel is going to be arrested, and they'll sweep the village for guns to make sure they don't fight back again.

Every so often, something like this happens, and the federal government cracks down hard on the village that resisted. It's sort of like what happens in America if you fight back against antifa - the government is there to protect the cartels from the people, not the other way around.

Standover merchants getting what they deserve will always be based. The problem with these types is that they are incapable of understanding that if you kill the cow, you'll get a nice beef dinner but the days of fresh milk for breakfast every morning are over forever.

I hope that the remaining cartel members decide to steer clear of the village from now on, but I strongly doubt they will. If one village is allowed to rebel, other villages will get the idea to do the same thing, and that will not do.
I mean whoever the cartel guy was he just made a bad business decision and got killed for being greedy. Good cartel bosses know that you keep palms greased of the locals and keep em happy. These guys were all brute force and ended up getting what happens to them. I fully expect these farmers to form their own cartel from this event. If you know anything about how Mexico was ran it used to be run by plazas.

They better set up shop for retaliation. If I know one thing these subhumans have inflated egos and will 100% attempt to get revenge. Farmers need to establish a neighborhood watch, and every farmer is going to have to stay strapped for round 2, because I imagine they’re pissed.

ALMOST AS IF...

...THEY HAVE AN ARRANGEMENT.

They do, actually. It's an open secret that the cartels and law enforcement/military are in buddy buddy relationships.

Based, my three takes for my fellow kiwisisters who happen to be 'murican:

1. Why the Mexican government just does XYZ? let me answer you with another question, Why the American government doesn't get rid of their cabal of jewish pedophiles liches in power? It's not that easy, the government is truly curupt dogwater so I won't elaborate about them, but if we take into account the army, there are factions that doesn't like the Narco and others that are deeply colluded with organized crime (allegedly) [YEP, the only consolation that "we" have is that not all the branches of fucking government are part of the Narco State :story:]. Also we have the black arms market (don't know if it's 100% true tho) and higher interference (the American Goverment, allegedly).

2. We have a precedent when a retarded politician declares war on the narco and it's not bueno, Cartels aren't religious or ideological, this is not a holy war or fight for justice, is a war for profit... they go for fear tactics and start killing off civilians because they know that the Narco State ain't stoping them.

Mexico functionally has no government.
3. The Narco IS THE GOVERNMENT.

La Familia Michoacana isn't a new cartel, they began back in the 80's. And ironically, they began as an organization devoted to fighting drug dealers and other criminals that were victimizing the people of the state of Michoacán. But as often happens with these vigilante groups in Mexico they eventually evolved into a criminal group/cartel themselves, exploiting the people they say they're protecting in order to finance themselves and their wars with rival cartels. They still try and present themselves as defenders of the people although most cartels try this tbf

La Familia is actually a very interesting and significant group in the history of Mexican cartels and has a very eventful history. I won't go through all of it but there is one guy I think most would find very interesting - El Mas Loco (The Craziest One), one of the key founders of La Familia (And later the offshoot Knights Templar Cartel - another wild story of a cartel claiming to be fighting for the people). He was very religious, raised catholic but was also a former Jehovah's Witness. He operated very much like a cult leader, writing his own bible (Also released an autobiography) that functioned as a code of conduct for those within the cartel. He is long dead (Killed in a gunfight with the army in 2014), but he was well-regarded within Michoacán because he would contribute to a lot of charitable causes.

Nowadays La Familia is a shadow of what it once was and is run by a pair of brothers who go by El Pez and El Fresa

How is the drug cartel problem an argument against ancaps when being a drug cartel is only profitable because of drug prohibition, and people's ability to fight back against the cartels is heavily restricted through gun control? Both of those things are the government's fault. In this case, the villagers, who only had machetes, finally worked up the courage to fight. Had they had guns, this would have happened years ago. Had drug prohibition never occurred, there wouldn't have been cartels to fight against to begin with.
Anyone who argues for drug decriminalization is a retard. Take a look at Portugal. They legalized drugs and homicides increase by 25-30%, drug related mortalities increased by over 150%, drug use increased by about 180%, litter increased by about 25%, robberies increased by 15-40%, ect. and most importantly related to your retarded point, ORGANIZED CRIME HAS A LARGER PRESENCE THAN EVER.

The US should've invaded and nation built Mexico instead of Afganistan. Apparently the ruling elite in Mexico are in bed with the cartels.
If it was framed as Mexican paramilitaries going across the border and killing people, US citizens would be a lot more angry.
The cartels do kill Americans in America. The Mexican border guard has been known to take pot shots at American border guards.

There are frankly a lot of other justifiable reasons to step into Mexico and sort it out. Or hell build that wall. So that Mexicans wont have a choice to run but instead stay and actually fight back and sort their country out.

But this all won't happen because a functioning Mexico is a competitor.
