Steven makes me wish we had a new tag of "rage cow" some people are not funny, not into a niche hobby, not overly open, they just upset readers and those interacting with said cow.

Forgive me this will sound A-loggy but this is really the only way to address this cow.

He's not funny, he doesn't create anything, he isn't into some comical fetish, he's not really insane aside a literal sociopath. He's just a horrible fat person who's into drugs, and he's a fat gross junkie who loves being human entropy.

I guess we are sucked in because deep down we like the show as it boils our blood on a well earned target. People like him Nick Bate etc, many of us watch because we can't turn away but just are looking forward to the prison/death that is coming.

The family dynamic is so broken and awful, I've met parents of addicts and often they do the wrong thing, but heat of the moment you know you see suffering. The dad also hasn't even mentioned trying going as a parent to DARA NA NAMI etc etc their are groups of addicts past addicts and families as well as mental health to help you treat your family best and take care of yourself. He just takes the laziest way of "kids screaming fix it" this is the same as a baby crying and giving him a rattle, as you grow as a person and parent, you need to grow with your family and step up, he's still treating his family like babies and clearly favoriting one for what ever reason.

This shit show can't end soon enough, but at the same time, I don't want off mr bones wild ride.

I can't get over the father. Not just how he reacts to Steven, but also Justin. Why does he favor Steven over him? Sure, Justin is a whiny victim loser, but he was sort of pushed into having that role by Steven, the loud bully loser.

Also don't know why Dr. Now didn't leave the office to remedy the situation. It's clear "dad" is unable to do so. Trying to push him to parent several decades too late cost him his actual patient. Have Steven leave, get him into the trunk (WTF) and have Justin come in for his appointment. If Justin can wait in the car, so can Steven. Don't like it? Call a cab.

And why the hell wasn't Justin provided with therapy? And maybe a care worker, though I don't think he was in as much need of care as Steven, so he could live alone. Break up that dynamic with his father and teach him he can do things for himself.

I'm wondering whether Justin isn't his biological son. Maybe that's why he treats him differently. Mom jumped ship and left him with the closest thing to a dad he had in his life. Dad doesn't want to admit it, so he keeps it a shameful secret. The same could be true for the abuse done to Justin by Steven.

Driving or flying hours away after having part of your stomach stapled would seem to be a bad idea as well. They also do need check ups and it would be a good idea to have those with the guy that did the work and I bet a lot of em would not bother to show up at all if it is a 4 day drive or 3 hours by plane, which could be a bad thing in case of complications sneaking up.

It being convenient for filming probably is not the first reason on the list but it likely also is not at the bottom.

Unfortunatly for him seems like TLC won that round. He just looks fucking done, and has looked that way since like, halfway through the first episode with them.

I wonder if part of doing the surgery for Steven way above his normal cutoff weight was in the hope that he might just drop dead during it in a medically plausible way.

This is an extremely common dynamic in abusive families: you get one active "abuser" and one passive "enabler." Steven is the abuser here, and Dad is the enabler. Usually the abuser/enabler job is divided between the parents, but since Mother Assanti got the hell out of there early on, Dad apparently had to improvise.

I’d personally think that TLC would pay for most, if not all, of the medical costs. If you look at the kinds of people who come onto that show, a lot of them are living in shitty houses and getting fat almost entirely off of cheap fast food and junk food. I’d imagine that most of them have government healthcare as a result of their poverty status and/or “disability” status, which definitely wouldn’t pay for the extent of medical treatment that they receive on the show. A lot of them are given extensive pre- and post-care, transportation to Texas for the surgery, in-home healthcare during recovery (like that poor woman who helped Steven for a little while after his procedure), and assistance with their dieting/exercise routines throughout the process.

I could be wrong, but I’d imagine that the majority of people who come onto the show do not have the sort of health insurance that would cover all of those procedures.

No, almost all of these people have Medicaid paying the costs of surgery, not TLC. TLC might assist them with getting the paperwork done for Medicaid to approve the surgery and other benefits in Texas. TLC pays a living stipend, which helps with rent costs but you’ll notice many participants are put in low cost HUD units when possible. If they don’t qualify for HUD then TLC might up the stipend or pay for a hotel. (They were willing to pay for Justin to stay in a hotel for a month or more) But the Assantis got some exceptions because they were a big ratings draw. TLC helps participants do paperwork to qualify for various welfare programs almost all of them qualify for because so few work. (There are a few exceptions to this that might have private insurance, but it’s true for the majority.)

Nah, Dr Now was playing totally for the ratings. Steven is one of their biggest ratings hate watch. He wasn’t worried about Justin but creating good content for the cameras. There was zero reason for Steven to be there. It was done totally for the benefit of the show and creating drama.

Don’t put Dr Now on a pedestal. His son is the producer of the show so they are milking this for all its worth. Dr Now has done some shady shit in the past. When his wife of thirty years divorced him a decade ago he pissed the judge so bad lying and hiding his assets that the judge stomped his ass and divided the estate 70/30 in favor of his wife. Judges only take extreme steps like that if you are being a real shithead.

Money matters to this guy more than yet another fatty who has eaten himself to the edge of the grave. I don’t really blame him for that - I have little sympathy for ppl who have eaten themselves to 600 lbs.

Any doctor who respects the Hippocratic Oath wouldn't turn a patient away on the basis that they dislike him. That's especially true for Doctor Nowzardin, who's become one of the most respected medical professionals in his field. People come to him from all over the country because he's one of the best at what he does.

That being said, I wouldn't blame him for watching Steven's prescription record like a hawk. Not only is it his legal obligation to report any suspected drug abuse to the state, getting Steven off his back would free up room for a patient that might actually appreciate what Dr. Now does for them.
