Tabletop, cRPGs, aRPGs, psychedelic fever dreams,; whichever setting!

My favorite tends to be a pure combat warrior/knight, as I always liked playing a mundane soldier type character, like the Imperial Legion in Elder Scrolls

As a runner up, I also really like playing necromancers, as summoning an undead horde to do your dirty work and then raising up your victims to join your army never gets old. My favorite part of Morrowind and Oblivion was all the different kinds of daedra you could summon (which is why I was really disappointed with Skyrim's barebones summoning roster)

Who are your favorites, kiwis?

Wow, this thread is autistic as hell. I'M IN!

Obviously, Cleric is best class. Duh. Dude's got his god on speed dial, and even when Customer Service says "Sorry, out of miracles, sir." you can just whip out your mace and beat the crap out of dudes until they either renounce their evil ways or they become the god's problem. Plus the party loves you so they don't have to be the "faggy healer."

Necromancer. Who doesn't want to beat the shit out of their enemies, teabag them and then force them to do your chores and smack a bitch up for you while you tend to more important matters?

I'd love to be into all the fun magic based classes but every single RPG has it's own different rules for how the magic system works. I don't feel like spending a few hours on some wiki to make sure I'm not gimping myself with a build, I'd rather just get hop in with more consistent classes like melee ones or archers

JRPGs generally feel more approachable when it comes to magic based classes, just some sort of mana meter to spend on moves. It's a shame, all the ridiculous stuff you can do with magic in western RPGs sound fun, I just feel like I have to know the game pretty well to try something like a necromancer on another playthrough

During my Everquest days, I always really liked warriors and barbarians/berserkers (Mainly because my nana and her friends always played mages/healer roles and needed a tank.)

In aRPGs, I usually play rogue classes. Just love abusing stealth and critical hits for maximum dps when I have full, real-time control of my character. Currently playing Dragon Age: Inquisition as a Rogue Archer/Artificer, a build that uses critical hits to recharge your ability cooldowns allowing them to be used constantly, and an ability to place a timed marker that allows you to teleport back to that position and regain the health you had when the marker was placed.

In MMOs, I play a tank for PvE, it's usually an important role so it's generally in high demand if you're good at it. For PvP, I'm back to rogues, preferably as a min-maxed assassin build that kills squishy targets (like healers and mages) in seconds.

In cRPGS I usually play as a Sorcerer/Wizard/Ranger with Cleric abilities.

In the Souls series I was a DexFag or Sorcerer. Dark Sorcerer build easily breaks Dark Souls 2 PvE.

When I used to play FF14 I was a dragoon and sometimes dabbled in other DPS like Machinist. I like Dragoons for the armor and lore, its so fun bouncing all over the fucking place and casting buffs/debuffs. I would've played as a healer but my internet is to shitty for an important role.

depends on the game but i mostly go with the rouge since i get a hard on for duel wielding, pick pocketing and talking my way out of trouble.

I'm more prone to picking the usual Warrior/Barbarian trope these days, but I will always have a soft spot for Paladins. Monks and Wizards are also pretty cool in their own ways, and maybe Clerics if played straight up like a combat healer.

Rogues/thieves because I always find it funny and easy to be both able to fight and steal money, getting double reward.

I remember playing Risen 1 and doing the quests of towns for faction rep, then looting the whole town for, then killing everyone in that town for exp.

It was amazing and totally in lore for what my character was like.

Depends on the game, but I think a Mage/Wizard is usually the most fun archetype.
Diablo 2's Sorceress and FFXIV's Black Mage/Red Mage are great examples.
Some games have it awful though, I cannot stand casters in WoW, and TES magic is either comically broken or unusably terrible.
Somewhere in the middle, magic styled characters in less Fantasy games, like the Warlock in Destiny or the Siren in Borderlands appeal more to me than the other options those games offer.

I honestly just look at them all, decide which one has the coolest abilities and then go with that. I do tend to favor ranged characters over melee characters though.

From what I've seen in most games.

Ranged character in a melee fight: Rough, but normally you can handle it
Melee character in a ranged fight: You're shit out of luck quite often

I like bards the Most for two reasons
1. Jack of all trades master of none, letting me dip into everything I want to
2. Welsh nationalism. Every other part of Welsh history is about a bard.

i had a fun playthrough in pillars of eternity two as a chiper (think of it like magic but you fuck with a persons soul/psyche) and a bard that focused on pistols and blunderbuss.

sure in close combat, im screwed but leave me alone for 10 seconds and you screwed. you think sinning is for gays? say that again when i can conjure up two ogers or a wyrem that will fuck your shit up.
