Indeed. As such I also wholeheartedly recommend Aldous Huxley's Brave New World as a companion piece. Though they were written by different authors, both books complement each other excellently.Nineteen Eighty Four. Despite what pretentious book snobs will tell you, this is a science fiction novel.
"Kallocain" is another good but less known dystopian novel of the same era, written by an author that had just visited both nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. More about self-reinforced shame-based social control than the technological kin. Not sure if the translations are any good though.Indeed. I'd also like to suggest Peter Watts' Behemoth trilogy. It's a great read but it's also pretty fucked up.
