No matter how awful something is, like his aunt or his dog Patti dying, or even the thousands of deaths on 9-11, it's what happens to Chris is all that Chris really cares about.

He isn't able to determine cause and effect. Or more likely, blinded by cash.

It wouldn't be the first time.

What's the worst thing that can happen if he doesn't pay his paypal fees? Lose his ebay account? I don't think they'd bother taking him to court over such a small amount of money. If he weren't so damn autistic, he could just get some white knight to set up an online store where he could cut out the middle man.

The answer to this depends on how you have your PayPal account set up, because there have been some horror stories.

If you don't have PayPal linked to a bank account, then "nothing" really happens. eBay will pilfer your PayPal account to cover the fees (because eBay and PayPal are the same company) and if they are not able to obtain what they need they'll suspend your eBay account and let you know how much you owe. They will not unlock your account until this balance is settled.

If you DO have PayPal linked to a bank account, then you're fucked. I don't know how much of the ToS has changed over the years, but originally the service agreements (you know, the things no one reads) included a clause that gave eBay permission to reach into your bank account if you did not have enough funds in your PayPal account to cover the balance. If there were insufficient funds in your bank account then not only was your eBay account locked down, your bank account was levied as well and eBay would take what they could get to settle the balance and then assets would be frozen if they couldn't get everything. This may have changed in recent years, and I hope it has not just for Chris' sake, but everyone else who uses eBay as well. It's for this reason alone why my PayPal account is linked to a checking account that I only keep a couple hundred bucks in.

I bet phone calls from creditors will start coming through. Let's see if Chris can try to crash into slumber over this.
He wouldn't pay them any more mind than he does the twenty thousand JULAY calls he's received.

Maybe it's because I'm new, but I'm so mystified at how slow he realized this absurdly shocking revelation. He's autistic, not dumb, right?
He's just autistic enough to be so disconnected from reality that facts and data doesn't enter into his thought process. He is the Dunning-Krueger Effect in human form. You can argue that he has all of his IQ points, but if he is in La-La-Land 24/7, he is only using a tiny fraction of said IQ points for dealing with his environment. Thus, his behavior is indistinguishable from that of a schizophrenic weetodd.

Who ever said that all autists are geniuses?
Arrogant Autists say that enough that they have all begun to believe their own hype.

He's a ways away from having IRS issues. Ebay doesn't have to send a 1099 until you crack $20k in sales...

I was under the impression that anything above $2000 attracts the greedy IRS. Maybe that was the profit line someone has to reach before suing for copyright is worth the effort.

I don't think Nintendo or Sega cares about the petty cash Chris is making off of Sonichu medallions. If $2000 was some kind of limit, he'd have already reached it by now. The tens of thousands of dollars those companies would spend to sue Chris for the pittance he's making would not be worth the effort.

I don't think the discussion is about suing him. I think some people wonder if there is a point where they send him some sort of form cease-and-desist letter. I lean towards saying no, but it is a much more reasonable possibility than them launching a lawsuit.

Yeah the only thing Nintendo/Sega will do is send a C&D, which knowing Chris will take the issue and flip the fuck out.

Think of it this way, when you go to the county fair and see all those knockoff bort simpsons dolls, nothing happens cause fox, disney, wb doesnt have time to go after backwood methheads. Thats what chris is a living breathing county fair

200 transactions and $20,000 in sales is the point at which Paypal (or any passthru billing service) is legally required to issue a 1099 and report to the IRS. The feds aren't going after Chris for the few thousand he's making selling crappy medallions. They're more likely to come after Null and the vast sums of cash the CWCki Forums Empire is bringing in...

Nintendo and Sega make upwards of 20 or 40 billion a year. Sony is somewhere up around 100 billion. The 10 grand or so Chris makes isn't a rounding error to them. It would probably cost them more in legal fees than it's worth.

I'm only familiar with copyright law through audio recording, so it's vastly different, obviously!
Again, thanks for clarifying.

This whole eBay thing was really unexpected for most people on both sides. Chris didn't realize that eBay always favors the buyer during disputes and that it'd be incredibly easy to troll him (I'm sure at least one person opened a dispute for honest reasons but don't forget the guy who opened a dispute becauseof Chris's piercing). The buyers didn't realize that Chris would get their names and addresses and that, for the very first time, Chris had genuine dox on people and could troll them back.

Alot of us saw chris doxing customers a mile away, the guy is petty, egotistical, and wants to be in control. Thats the risk customers take when wanting a piece of christory, even when if Chris actually does something negative, people will be scared to report it to ebay for fear of being dox. For a guy that is all about power chris doesnt even realize he could do some shady crap and probably get away with it.

Considering how much he's being watched if he did or try to do anything somebody in the know would be blowing the whistle on it as fast as they found out. Not to mention, this is a guy that has somehow almost always managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory or fail harder than anyone thought possible.

Also, most people who purchased medallions aren't trolls. Chris trying to dox them would only wind up alienating his dwindling supply of customers.
