Isn't that a bit unfair on teenage girls? Chris isn't that psychologically developed.
Even more truth is that its not just the teenage girls. Chris is less developed than most of the junior high student (tween), both boys and girls.

I didn't watch the episode in question, nor do I really watch MLP at all, but knowing your typical cartoons its not hard to guess that it was a rehash of the tired old "be yourself" message that just about every other kids show has done at some time or another. Hell that as a staple trope on just about every 80s and 90s kids cartoon that Chris could have conceivably watched. Naturally the message flew right over his head though.

Anyway, all laughs aside, there's nothing wrong with being a "non-conformist," despite the term being misused by every high school kid ever who wanted to justify listening to the same music as their peers or dressing in the same (inevitably stupid) fashion. I myself like quite a few things are aren't popular or well known, and I can respect someone who holds to their own opinions in spite of social pressure. That being said, Chris is... well unique, that's for sure.

Chris has always had bland, generic tastes and gone with whatever advertising has told him is "cool." I suspect its as much due to the 'tism as it is growing up in the 80s and 90s with all that "extreme" advertising. Indeed that pretty much covers Sonic the Hedgehog, but in everything from Pokemon to fucking Britney Spears, Chris has gravitated towards what he THINKS is mainstream. I can't exactly picture him watching some sort of indie documentary or listening to obscure musical niches. So while he may rail against conformity, at the same time he's trying to be loved and accepted by his peers, albeit in a half-assed way that is about a decade or two in the past.

So the rumors that the episode is anti-SJW-as-fuck are true then?

I didn't watch this episode but from what people here are saying, it absolutely strikes me as a dig as SJWs, which is ironic as I was under the impression that SJWs were into the whole MLP scene. Go fig. Either way its funny because I can definitely see Chris having some SJW tendencies even if he isn't coherent or self-aware enough to articulate them as such.

All of this may be true about MLP's writing, but I don't remember neckbearded fedoras walking around with Animaniacs plushies that they stuck their peeners in, but yeah.

That's because you've obviously never heard of Dennis "Quozl" Falk before. You know, the guy who was stalking Tress MacNeille. Look him up for some good lulz if you're unfamiliar, but the moral of the story is that there were just as many creepy ass fetish sites on the net in the 90s as there are now. Its just they tended to be more ephemeral, so most of the early internet lolcows have been forgotten.

Remember that Sonichu themed Haiti image (on CWCki as "HelpHaitSonichu.jpg")? The furry recolors dwarf people in the pic.

The one with all the white kids in an overwhelmingly black country? Not sure if that goes towards proving Chris is simply lazy or that he's completely unaware of the world outside of his little corner of Virginia. Probably both.

Thank goodness fedoras weren't "in" then!

I've said before, the only difference between then and now (although "then" tends to be much much earlier periods than just the 80s/90s) is that without the internet, none of us normal people had any chance of witnessing these deranged people in such detail. Before he would just be "That weird kid down the block with the necklace thing".
Pretty much closet cases. The best they could hope for is to end up on the back page of any magazine/newspaper in the country, unless they wrote letters to the editor hoping for publication.

Now the guy who sits in his house 24/7 screaming about cartoons/politics/the illJEWmanati has a magic metal box that can broadcast his insanity to all 9 billion people on this blue marble.
It's these people who ruin the net for me.

This episode of My Little Pony was making fun of communism, North Korea, and Apple's 1984 ad. While there are certainly parts of the show that would appeal to 8 year old girls, this was clearly written for a much older audience.

And Chris largely didn't get it.
I'm sure there's plenty of things he wouldn't get the first time around.

And it's population is under the Iron Boot of a Gestapo of mind-reading hedghogs, since Der Mayor fired the regular police.
They put the Stasi to shame!

I'm sure I've seen quite enough of that in my childhood. Of course the 80's had it worse with certain messages about always agreeing with everyone in a group so nobody had opinions, that was tough!

He has started listening to Lawrence Welk, that's about enough non-conformity for him.

Good thing for that I guess, but yeah, I'm sure it's been around, just more openly these days.

Ditto! (And this looks more like Detroit than Haiti to me).

Has Chris ever compared FiM to the older generations of MLP? I always thought he would be some kind of MLP purist or something and not like FiM.

Before Equestria Girls came out he said that if they want humans in MLP they should just bring back Megan (not that Megan, she was the token human in G1). Of course, he did a complete 180 once it came out.

Unless it involves cerulean brachia, you can't really get Chris to hate anything tied to one of his favorite franchises.

Chris is some kind of weird merging of non-conformity and conformity. He bucks all sort of social norms such as his manner of dress, his hygiene and social interactions, while at the same time does not have any sort of originality and is dependent on mass media for his ideas and beliefs, and even that can loop around because he'll miss that some of the ideas he's lifting are satirical in nature and thus should not be emulated, but he's too dull to realize this and too unoriginal to have enough of an independent thought to say that the underlying idea that was being satirized is worth exploring.

Personally, any anti-conformity message I find in mass media makes me think of this:

Speaking of cartoons I can't help but think if Chris had watched "He-man and the Masters of the Universe" he would be at least slightly better off.

But then Count Graduon in the comics would've been a Skeletor ripoff, and I'm not sure I can take that level of absurdity. Regular Skeletor is bad enough.

Tirek was a demonic centaur that could absorb mana, a master manipulator, and wanted to conquer everything just for kicks. Starlight Glimmer is basically Amon from season 1 of Legend of Korra, wanting everyone on a level playing field and not caring how she did it. Why does Chris think she is worse?
Are you really wondering why the pony who hurt him more mentally is worse in the eyes of Chris?

Hell, given the situation, I bet Chris probably thinks Kim Jong Un is less evil than the CEO of Sega.

Equestria Girls is about high school and gal pals. Of course Chris liked it.
