So at the risk of Autism-elemental damage, I watched the episode.

I can now safely say I know why Chris hated it.

The antagonist in question is someone who screams about the need for equality and runs things cult-style with intimidation, a-la Vade, and does so with some kind of ability that ensures that no individual has any special talents or abilities that can outshine the others. She's created a so-called utopia based on this, since equality mean nobody can outdo one another, ergo enforced peace, but secretly most of the village is miserable but can't do anything about it because they either consider the alternative worse or are scared shitless of incurring the leader's wrath.

So CWCVille, then.

The irony is that the antagonist in question, riddled with insecurities, has done this to ensure nobody can outshine them. Whilst arguing for homogenization and equality, the leader of this movement is the special-est of all the so-called special snowflakes, and as such, she believes that everyone must conform in order to suit her whims. I know fuck all about MLP, but this much was obvious:

Chris hated her because he saw himself in her.
Nah, Chris hated the episode because he hates being told to be like everybody else. Things like "Earn your keep" "Act your age" "Observe basic personal hygiene" ,these are all evil oppressions in his quest to be coddled for all eternity,

I doubt Chris will ever see himself in an antagonist because in his mind, simply being the antagonist makes them the complete opposite of him.

So the rumors that the episode is anti-SJW-as-fuck are true then?

No wonder Chris despises it - he fit the bill for a self-serving SJW long ago.

No, the moral is "Conformity is bad, take pride in who you are." The people looking for any kind of message deeper than that have missed the point even more than Chris.

You know what the sad thing is, if he rebooted Sonichu with him an his creations as the antagonists and released it on something like lulu or amazon ebooks I would buy it even if the art was crappy, he is one of the few cows who could monitise and well I just want to see Chris doing something, anything at all. I just hate the idea of anyone zoning out so much they see white noise in there dreams that idea is really sad and I want him to have something out of life approaching fulfillment.

Dude MLP sucks. Stop talking about it Chris. Honestly Sonichu is better than MLP. Seriously... grown ass man complaining about a little girls' show.

I love this comment so hard. I am so sick of grown men on the internet trying to justify breaking down the finer points of cartoons aimed primarily at 8 year old girls because they think it is SUPPOSED to be for them. I thought this confounding joke of a phenomenon was going to go away in 2011. I swore it was just an ironic joke formulated on Transformers message boards. I'm still being horrified knowing that these people exist.

The funniest part is that Chris was a proto-Brony. Essentially, Bronyism is one step from being Chris.

I always thought the Corn Nuts ads were meant to be a parody of that kind of advertising. I mean, it's corn for God's sake.

corn-gone-wrong.jpg

Yeah that does seem possible lol. They were also one of the forerunners of the whole "challenge/antagonize the customer on the back of the bag" concept that many chip brands still use today ("You think you can handle THIS??!!").

It's a fuckin creepy episode to be totally honest, or maybe it's just because same-topias and brainwashing are both things that unnerve me. But of course like any good kid's show it does get resolved by the end, so I'd like to know if Chris legitimately worried that the main cast would stay same-fied forever. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if he did but at the same time it's like okay Chris, come on...

Be a non-conformist. Great. No one disagrees with that. But that does not give yo the right to do whatever pops into your head (like assault someone with mace over Sega altering their mascot).

Serious question:

I have never seen MLP. I am 32 years old, and remember it being on when i was a kid, but I always thought it was for girls.

Is this new MLP supposed to be taken "seriously" like the original, or is it for hipster dorks "wink wink watch this because it's ironic ha ha it's sort of serious but not really" type of thing?

Either way, it sounds totally unappealing.

So...on top of dressing like a colour-blind old cat lady, obsessing about MLP, and getting sent to court over Sanic, Chris is now a pseudo-hipster...hahahaha! Oh GodJesus, this is too much, I need to lie down.
Crashing into slumber helps!

Chris is a non-conformist in the same way that a child is a non-conformist when it comes to bedtimes and doing chores.
Let alone homework and vegetables.

It's a show for little girls, nothing more, and like you, I felt the same way too (37).

Mare-isson Bergeron?

I watched a few episodes of the show and was indifferent. I think there is a show or two that does what that one does, only better. So, seeing someone like Chris flip out makes it more interesting.

Edited: Damn. I thought I was original, but I was beaten to the punch by an entire thread.

Ok. So it's a show FOR GIRLS, with the intent to appeal to girls.

For some reason i keep thinking it's a "kids show" but there is another completely different level of humor aimed at adults, such as Pee Wee's Play House, Bobby's World, Rocko, etc.

And yes, i apologize in advance for putting MLP in the same sentence as Rocko's Modern Life.

It's a show for little girls that the original creator wrote with the idea of "parents shouldn't have to watch this with their kids and be totally bored/repulsed while watching it". In addition, it seems to have been an important part of the initial creation of the show to give each character a thoroughly distinctive personality and interests, and the creators also seem to be total dorks who love throwing small references to other media into the show (today's episode had a scene that mimicked the Apple Big Brother Super Bowl commercial, for instance, and episode titles such as "Magical Mystery Cure" are clearly not going to be understood by the target audience). Add all that up and you have a recipe for people outside the age and gender demographic to be legitimately interested in it. (For what it's worth, my own like of the show is probably related to the fact that I have a lot of trouble watching legitimately drama-heavy shows since I start to find them too realistic and it makes me feel bad about the state of the world. So, yes, perhaps it is escapism, but it's not as if I have zero prospects in life, so it's more of a guilty pleasure than an escapist obsession.)

In short, 'it's still for little girls, it's just written like Animaniacs used to be'.

True dat. There's a lot of nerd/sciencey references and storylines (Rainbow Dash breaking the sound barrier comes to mind). It's also nice to see any show where the characters personalities are unique from eachother and consistent. No brony, but I will admit that it's watchable (especially given the usual choices on TV).

A little of both. All good kids shows remember that the kids are probably watching with their parents and that they should be entertained too. The new MLP is definitely written with more than just little girls in mind. But, you know...the target audience is still little girls.

All of this may be true about MLP's writing, but I don't remember neckbearded fedoras walking around with Animaniacs plushies that they stuck their peeners in, but yeah.

At least Chris doesn't have any MLP sex toys in his collection, that we know of. THAT WE KNOW OF.

Naa, we'd know.
