Postmortem February 12th DDoS Attack

We're being DDoS attacked. It's a carpet bombing of my subnet. A networking error is stopping me from implementing fixes which previously kept the site up during DDoS attacks in the past. I am getting DDoS mitigation set up (which will add about $1,700 to our monthly overhead). However, before our DDoS mitigation works, we will need physical adjustments at the datacenter. I am waiting on that.

The site is up right now because the attack is over. They are probably paying quite a bit for this because I am seeing 12Gbps but that's only a small fraction of the full attack which is likely exceeding 100Gbps.

We will be getting a second 1Gbps line to help with ongoing bandwidth issues. I've also put in an order for a $2000 router which will have a 10Gbps SFP+ port so we can scale that up to 10Gbps as needed. That's not going to arrive until June, for whatever fucking reason.

Edit: some people may be able to connect while others cannot due to how the DDoS mitigation is only partially set up still.

Edit 2/14 00:13 - Uptime is due to the insert coin to continue DDoS being off. Fixes are still pending.

Edit 2/16 20:09 - Uptime is again due to the DDoS timing out. The permanent fix is still pending.
