Whilst it's not exactly about the Inklings, I recall there being an interview with one of the Splatoon designers saying that they intentionally designed the Octolings to be "more sexier" in their animations (or something along those lines) compared to the Inklings, since they're meant to be "older and more mature". I don't think it's necessarily impossible that the same mind that thought to do that might be willing to walk the line of questionability with other designs.

Well not every character, but the fact that they did what they did what they did in season 3 is disturbing. Of particular concern is that they seem to just keep buffing the more visible characters and releasing top tiers. Bryan didn’t need the wall carry buffs he got in Season 3, or the buff he got recently to hatchet kick. Why did Hwo’s backlash get buffed to -9 even though Gigas, the worst character in the game, was the only one that could reliably punish it anyway? Why make electrics even harder to whiff punish? Why make Kazuya’s db4 hit grounded now when he already has batshit okizeme? Why does Jin have all the punishes, all the gimmicks, all the cheese strings, the best parry in the game, and the mishima tools on top of it? That game is messed up and it’s only going to get worse. Hopefully the FGC getting torched means Bamco’s esports projects go away and Harada gets put back on Tekken.

It's gone the route of SFV where they nerfed defensive options, watching tight defense is boring to pure spectators because they don't understand the skill that's required behind it and just want to watch fuckers get launched. It may be eyecandy for scrubs who are watching it and see a lot of pretty colors, but it's frustrating to actually play no matter what your level of skill is. I wholeheartedly agree and really do hope the death of the FGC's espergs saga makes devs go back to making the game fun for players of all skill levels to play rather than make it fun for mouthbreathers who just watch tourneys and don't even bother actually playing the games they're watching on even the lowest of skill levels.

I don't think the JP swearing quite translates directly - 'kuso' (ie "shit") is often translated as "dammit" because it's not quite the same strength over there. Sometimes English translations insert swear words because a lot of the intensity comes from the grammatical forms and levels of politeness involved, which doesn't translate to ENG either.

As for breasts on TV, AFAIK JP TV is not like French TV etc.

casual toplessness was actually fairly common in manga/anime, even stuff aimed at children. DragonBall had a few times when Bulma had full frontal nudity, this was published in comics and aired on TV. Usually when it happened it was comedic.

But, like I say, my main involvement in the scene was in the 90's, before the fursuit types had completely taken over, and I haven't really had contact with people in the community in...7 or 8 years, I guess? And I was never really a "furry", just someone who was into anthropomorphic art, so I was always kinda an outsider.

You're definitely right that furries will cover up a lot of shit, but there's a very important distinction to make on this: they will do their hardest to cover up anything that confirms what the normies think about them. So, zoophilia, zoosadism, pedophilia, all that.

But they're still SJWs, so they will absolutely throw anyone under the bus for accusations of sexual harrassment or any given -ism. A male #metoo victim can still very much stick if it's gay-on-gay controversy, and if any of SonicFox's previous fuckbuddies has trooned out since... well, it's just a matter of finding an accusation that sounds convincing.

Yeah, I was there for that whole ordeal, too. When I first got involved in furry fandom, it was still mostly just funny animal cartoons and comics, which was cool, though even at the start I saw blatant grooming and propositioning of minors. And that only got worse once the lifestylers came in. Given the...tendencies of the community, and Sonicfox's young age entering the community, it's hard to believe he wouldn't be at least aware of some of the types of guys that like 'em young. Though I wouldn't really blame him if he didn't run out and tell people about it.

As to if he did something with a minor himself? It's certainly plausible, though it would have to be pretty egregious for anyone to really raise a stink over it. I don't think too many people will rush to cancel a gay black furry for fucking a 16 year old when he was 19, for instance.

What you're not taking into account is that playing fighting games at a high skill level is equal parts fun, satisfying, and addictive. I don't claim to be a pro but when you play any fighting game at a fairly high level of play, high enough that you can actually "feel" like you're playing someone close to the same skill level as you, it becomes this strange, beautiful half conversation/half argument that plays out in a series of 2 minute encounters. You interact with the other player in a deeply special way that almost makes you understand the romantic way authors like Musashi speak about martial arts and warfare.

Powerlevel: one of my bosses' bosses took our entire department out to a barcade at work once; free buffet of food and unlimited tokens for 2 hours, pay for your own drinks. I dunked on a few coworkers at a MvC2 cabinet and caught the aforementioned bosses' boss playing a few rounds out of the corner of my eye at one point. I felt comfortable challenging him to a match and we had this perfect battle of swapping out fighters, healing block damage and only eating one super each; we timed out and I won by cumulative life points by an impossible-to-tell-by-eyesight margin. Those 99 seconds however felt like 10 minutes had gone by, and we both developed a weird instant appreciation for each other and chatted about the match and team compositions for an actual 10 minutes. We both were impressed with the other's experience, despite neither of us being active players. We both were aware enough to not talk about "vidya gaems" in the office but he then started saying hi to me in elevator passings when I had previously been below his paygrade, and my immediate supervisors gave me a few perks(at his behest, I would later find out secondhand).

I like retelling that story not just because it was one of those rare times where you actually improve your life by being good at a video game, but in retelling it I crave reliving that great match and the subtle, strangely elegant dance that it was. Anyways... its gay, I'm a fag, gimme rainbows. I should probably be in judo wrestling Joe Rogan for bro points and podcast appearances instead of remembering Gambit juggles.

For me it's rare to find someone on the same skill level as I am, because I'm stuck in that middle area of being too good for n00bs, and too much of a scrub for pro players. So when I actually do find someone within my level, I enjoy those matches more than every other match I've had (especially when the other fighter DOESN'T use a shoto)

Also your boss story sounded pretty cool. Every job I've worked at never had people that were into video games in general, and the ones that were only liked First Person Shooters or the usual normalfag shit like Fortnite.

I have this issue too about skill level, and it's why I push for better matchmaking systems. So far KI is the only fighter that I think does it right, where it makes you do qualifier matches to place you so you aren't getting smashed by people 'just passing through' as it were.


I've had the most fun with SF4's custom match system, since even when ranked you can do salty sets. Fuck now I'm nostalgic.
