Fighting Game Community (FGC) General - The history of FGC drama, general FGC shenanigans, and directory to more eccentric individuals and subcultures within the community

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.

This guy, Core A Gaming, is the embodiment of the desire the fgc has for validation. At first his videos might seem descent, but the more I think about it he is desperately trying to show that the "love" (obsession) the fgc has for fighting games is "healthy" and totally not weird.

PLZZ whatch our awful, spastic fighting game circus.
That channel is peak autism most of the information goes over my head. Then again most fighting games suck especially the ones that require precision with the controls like Street Fighter 5. Maybe its just me being average. Then again Tekken and DoA are my two favorites because of hot women and fast gameplay that just let you beat the shit out of people like your on ocd.

No you're absolutely right, it's really autistic because he stretches the topic way too long when all he has to say "Up is jump", but it makes the SoyGC feel like they're smarter for understanding up is jump because he tells you that by jumping you are a tactical god

I understand the intent of the channel is for newer "players" in the community that want to understand some shit that gets thrown around, but all this channel does is make it worse

Next they'll use doubletapping the dpad left to sprint is a double edge sword getting in peoples face or getting ko'd

He has some decent videos, namely the button mashing one is a nice introductory resource to tell someone "Don't just wail on the controller if you want to really learn how to play" even if it is throwing a dictionary at your ass.

Then of course the two you posted he gets on his podium and goes full extra credits retarded, those two videos are the worst but he has a habit of jerking himself off with his insights.
For example, I hate how much people quote the following video like they are some kind of experts, without thinking for a second what having a game of only buffs would mean:

He's responsible for everyone going on about "player expression" now as a buzzword too thanks to another one of his videos. I notice people like quoting video essays like this as gospel, but it's really apparent with fighting games for some reason.

Something people also forget most people who pick up a fighting game have no interest in autisming out, but just want to see their characters do cool shit. and beat up their friends.
There is a reason that dunkey video on strive viewcountwise killed every video the FGC shits outs to try and appeal to the almighty algorithm. Hell just recently when TSB had their big tourney for the month they were doing shit for views (about 1k) until Critikal restreamed them because he is Hotashi's sponsor (Up to 14k including his stream, the TSB stream topped around 2k).

Still, I think there is something hilarious when these games are glorified rock paper scissors and you both get people thinking motion inputs are feats of herculean dexerity and that being the best at RPS means you are hot shit.

Somehow missed this thread, trying to catch up. I love fighting games, playing online and especially in person, but fuck if I could care less about the FGC.

I've tried to watch EVO in the past, had no idea exactly how to root for anyone because it's charasmatic bores sitting there playing video games. Some dork kept showing me that Daigo clip of SF3, "THIS IS WHY IT'S SO GOOD" and my eyes just glaze over.

Also how is Mortal Kombat XI considered enough of a "tournament" game? Wish when Netherealm rebooted the series, they rebooted the gameplay to feel less stiff and janky like everyone is a angry with arthritis and actually add some animation and nice flow to the gameplay. You think these dorks who take this genre waaaaaaay too seriously wouldn't accept something that still feels like it's 1993.

I don't know what's worse: the FGC or speed running community, because I think they're both equally retarded. Just a bunch of autistic adults with arrested development and a misplaced sense of priority getting uppity over video games.

There aren't many fighting games released year over year and older games tend to get "stale". Additionally, most tournaments are run as a business so it's pretty easy to get a game "over" to a decent crowd if you're willing to pay even a little bit.

MK11 is a fair bit newer and Netherrealm isn't afraid to throw money at tournaments to drum up some hype (via advertising $$$ and prize pool $$$) and it honestly doesn't take much money at all. I'm not sure there are a lot of people that are hardcore MK fans in the FGC, but there are a decent amount of pro players who will learn NRS games to make easy money from lightly attended tournaments.

Son, I'm sorry, but that shit is fresh as fuck. I agree with everything else.

The "new" MK is fucking jank garage for real. I owned X for I think 2 hours before I drove back to the store and exchanged it (and that includes the hour of travel there and back). Every 5 fucking seconds there's some pause so they can stroke their graphic epeen and fuck up the whole fight flow. I don't even understand how you can play that competitively, it's literally RPS because you've got so much time to make choices.

People will play it competitively because NRS will regularly juice tournaments with an extra $50,000 of prize pool. It's also tournament clout for players who can't play "main" games (aka Sonicfox).

Like, I don't like MK11, but if I was a pro player I'd pick it up on the side and clean up a bunch of tournaments because even top 8 can pay out $3,000.

huh.

Even if you beat something unfair... it still does not make it fair. Damn, those casinos and claw machines are the fairest games ever because some guy managed to beat them.

Been playing fighting games for about 15+ years now and the community depending on what you play varies.

I feel its more a western thing, but alot of the recent content coming from this scene is the standard influencer bullshit along side more essay formatted videos. This wasn't that big of a deal a couple of years back when you would still get straight forward videos that would only run you about 1-6 mins.

Once the community got more recognition especially after that slapfight about how "fps are harder than fighting games" they've been obsessed with treating every detailed like a math problem. You can compare fighting games to plato and the concept of life all you want, but to an outsider they don't give a shit. You can't just show a casual player numpad notations without getting a weird look.

I still like locals and going to tournaments, but of recent times more people you run into think match ups and tier placements are words of the gods given to us by high level players.

Don't think its fully their fault though. These days instead of sub forums where people would talk about their mains or general gameplay, everything gets shoved in discord and Twitter videos without needing to ever boot up the game. Its why strive got plagued with so many "optimal chipp ToD" videos.

Without people willing to explore themselves, they just turn and parrot whatever shit youtube or Twitter grifters come up with which is why you see these newer people like roofmonger and Leon Massey pop up.

Adding to this, the difference between the "mainstream" fgc and the local arcade circles is staggering. The overall gay ass Twitter/YouTube/EVO/Deviants/ whatever circles are populated by the most basic and boring people ever. It's like their only sense of identity revolves around videogames, hype and some of them cooming, (the black dudes seem to also be pathetic victims of bullying that are trying so hard to be your typical "badass" hood rat).

I remember that when I used to live in Latin America even the most shitty, shady maquinitas place was miles more bearable to be in than any current FGC tournament.

This memo has been up since EVO was announced months ago. There's nothing going on with EVO till November, and only the SRKWiki is online.

How long does it take to "work through the new partnership"?

Might be powerleveling a bit, but you just reminded me of Funtástico and Stop Video with this comment. Tournaments in SV were always hype AF.
