Fighting Game Community (FGC) General - The history of FGC drama, general FGC shenanigans, and directory to more eccentric individuals and subcultures within the community

That post has a bit of truth in it, later part is being hyperpolic. Not exactly Japanese citizens will do that, it's that the more Japanese gaming companies getting more accustom to English fanbase, having reddit/discord/twitch community and all, they'll conform some globohomo standard in it. Since this is kinda long and not on fighting games, spoiler to shorten the post.
If you think I'm too paranoid, that's fine, it's just from my observation with changes and choices. Because most/all of these are subtle things not really affecting main gameplay in anyway, I didn't really notice it until browsing twitter.

Instead of using "Male and female", you have Body type 1 and 2 instead.
1) Capcom
MonHun World (2019) and MonHun Rise (2021)
View attachment 3601944 View attachment 3601971
Only starting from Rise, you can have either male or female voice on whatever gender for your characters. You can argue this was for character creation silliness. But in World, 20 male voices for male only vice versa with female option. While Rise only has 20 voices (10 male ones, 10 female ones) for both genders.

Adding black people hair (Oct 2021) as free dlc for everyone, just because someone on twitter asked (March 2021) for it.

A dark skin girl with Japanese name, Monju, is voiced by Debra Wilson, full on female version of Mr.T. Mind you, Monju is supposed being a niece of elder village, Fugen, and she sounds like some black auntie in her 40-50s. The whole village, Kamura, is obviously Japanese inspired.

2) Nintendo
Pokemon game stopped "Are you a boy or girl?" at X &Y (2013) and starting with pick your photo/appearance at Sun & Moon (2016).

With recent Scarlet & Violet, there is less distinct design between two genders. You can argue GameFreak being lazy more than pandering.
But typical Japanese games, they love to make distinction between male and female character design, not samey. Same thing Chinese and S.Korean games.

I don't know why they are so afraid of using "male-female" now. Is it because of that Cyberpunk 2077 "Did you assume my gender" joke (2018 ) and then having "Body type" in character creation (late 2020) or what?

Of course there's a screenshot of Neoxon. He's some poster on ResetEra with the tag of "Spotlighting Black Excellence - Diversity Analyst"

I miss the risks companies used to take now everyone is afraid of being cancelled , its so irritating.
It's the companies' own damn fault. This is what happens when rather than appease their fanbase, they instead go for a broader (a.k.a. casual/normalfag) audience. You start seeing shit like simplified/easy controls and combos, women being covered up more, and just general pandering to whatever is "in", which unfortunately also includes politics for some assinine reason when companies should be apolitical first and foremost.

The other problem is that the same special snowflakes and politically motivated people that have seeped into the fanbase are also working for said companies and neither groups (the "community" or the companies themselves) botherd to root them out before they became a worse problem like they are today.

The FGC embraced the woke sjw shit with open arms once Esports and Duty Fighter V happened, Max and Justin Wong leading the charge. Wong embraced that shit with Max so no one can bust them and the rest of the NY/SoCal Fgc "celebs" while getting perks from esports and companies (even Geoff the Sjwcuck tried to get in when he supported the SFV censorship, but Geoff became a nobody loser after he flopped at Iron Galaxy). BizarroMike was the first of many red flags only Mike Ross caught when he made the racist comment about fried chicken as a sjw (Other flags being Gllty, CujoKate, SonicFox, even Dale, etc). The MK community might have been the only ones who noticed things getting bad, but they were getting silenced by sjws, Ed Boone/NRS/Warner Bros, and assholes like some British E-sports broadcaster who pissed off the far left when he wasn't getting his rewards for being a bitch.

Sadly BizarroMike wound up working for Capcom, and I think he's still there.

This is what happens when you don't gatekeep your hobbies. Just hope for this shit to passover like a rainy cloud or pray for a gaming crash to happen.
More people are catching onto the bullshit going on with woke and non-woke stuff corporations like Capcom, Arcsys, Disney, and Games Workshop have been doing for years. It's going to take a lot of time and other things to happen like people finally making alternatives to main stream (e.g. Eric July). There are more people on Youtube calling shit out even though the FGC is beyond redemption (sadly most of the fgc channels are praising Strive Bridget, and you know Max is going to praise shit like Bridget and Ken's possible character assassination in SF6). The main FGC might be a lost cause like comic books, table tops, and even prowrestling.

Speaking of Max? What happened to him? I used to enjoy his content but he started to shill for these fucking companies and even support the idea of loot boxes or microtransactions in fighting games.

That inside access to those companies payed huge dividends for him and he's as squeaky clean as an influencer as you're ever going to find in the FGC (after EVO died, Mike Ross dipped, and Gooteks went redpill) puts him in a very lucrative place.

What's funny is that Mike still has a presence in the fgc. He was announced as a tournament ambassador for Granblue, whatever the fuck that means. But man, does the community fucking hate Gootecks. Like I get he was redpilled after Mike called it quits on SFV and Excellent Adventures, but I never understood why they hate Gootecks so much.

Because he became outwardly right wing, which is apparently a grievous hate crime in the FGC.

Literally what got him "unpersoned" on Twitch was suggesting that the same people who were mad about George Floyd being "killed" by the Police Force should also be mad about the unarmed Jan 6 tourist who was let inside the building and then shot through her throat unprovoked.

I never understood why they hate Gootecks so much
he's a pro-trump, anti-vax cryptobro who doesn't give a shit what the fgc trannies think about him and they'll never stop seething about it
it doesn't help that he hasn't exiled himself and is still friends with some pretty big names in the community

imo that stunt he pulled with the ads during evo was pretty based

I’m just real glad that Tekken contains the least drama, trannies and most normal people in the FGC. This is can be simply confirmed by visiting your local FGC fight night/tournament.
My local pretty much is this but always knew Tekken was the anti weirdo game.
Every single tranny in my local dont care for Tekken and when they do play they pick like Noctis or Alisa.

Outside of Tekken not being too out there in terms of overall design, I think troons really hate neutral more than they let on and would rather have some autistic setplay in their games than deal with the pacing of Tekken.

Plug in undernight/melty/strive and they'll be on that like flies to shit.

Are you sure the gender examples aren't just localization? I remember when Animal Crossing New Horizons came out, the gender select screen was called 'style'. But in many other languages such as the original Japanese, boy and girl were clearly labeled.

I'm not an OG of the scene but to anyone who was there during the golden age, was this political bullshit always there or is this a recent thing they are doing? Because from the old shit footage that I've seen. I'm leaning towards the latter.

I mean, tbf, what he said was blatantly false.

It's a recent thing, for me at least.

It has a lot to with a cultural shift of a bunch of broke people sweating it out in Arcades in the 90s being the FGC and then the rise of esports (and correspondingly - huge piles of esports money). Once the big sponsor money/ad money/twitch money started showing up - everyone naturally tried to be as "advertiser friendly" as possible. Tournaments suddenly became "safe spaces" - players got sponsorships with rules and guidelines attached to them, they started streaming in accordance with Youtube/Twitch guidelines, and so on. EVO went from "an event that can barely afford space to play in and hosted like 30 people" to "the largest esport event to exist" in the span of ~10 years time.

No one wants to lose out on all of that money - MaximillianDood makes $750,000/year at least (before any corporate sponsorships, of which he likely cleans up and makes even more cash and before Youtube ad rev). It's a substantial amount of money - doubly so for a group of people who grew up stealing tokens from arcades just to be able to play fighting games.
