It's even more annoying when you realize we already had a female guy in Capcom fighting games in the past

Why shelve Maki when they had no problem adding Lucia (another Final Fight character) to SFV when she's never been in a fighting game before? Makes no sense.
Good point and you just may be right.
Perhaps it didn't really click for me because I always saw Maki as an answer to Mai Shiranui.

Mago's right though. She isn't that cute or sexy and it's not even it's because she's a black chick (as if that isn't a cliche line).
It also doesn't help that she has that horrible Chun Li in Marvel VS Capcom Infinite face.
Considering before Strive we had Xrd and +R, Strive is a fucking joke in terms of how the game feels to play. It's slow and anemic. Gattle routes are just gone. The damage and the underlying mechanics behind that damage are the most retarded shit you've ever seen. The DLC cast has powercrept the base cast. It has the worst airdash I've ever seen. Milia is a shadow of her former self. What happened to Ramlethal is a warcrime.
Does GG Strive have the arcade/story mode that consists of you fighting tons of clones while you get to the final match? I didn't like that grinding aspect for DBFZ and BlazBlue Cross Battle.

Arcade mode is just a series of fights that always start and end the same for each character, not sure if the order of characters you face in between is determined, story mode is literally a 4 hours real time cutscene

The only really strong dlc character is happy chaos though

I don’t know why people are complaining about the free fighting game that comes with each Guilty Gear music album. Joking aside, I do believe that the Bridget controversy was allowed solely to drive up sales in the US.

As far as how things are going for fighting games in general, I think that each company is trying to find a new “good period” again. Example: Street Fighter 6 feels like an attempt to capture that Third Strike magic for the modern era.

Minor but amusing twitter Melty Blood drama:

A user by the name Ouji-Senpai claims they were banned from a tournament for playing Akiha, on the logic that they are a "waifu player" (Cached Link)

View attachment 3647044

Now if true this would be a funny event which is obvious to anyone with two brain-cells; the majority of the cast could qualify as "waifu bait" and get you banned by this logic. In fact, it's too perfect.

Ouji is soon pressed to provide actual receipts to the event. No link to the bracket, no TO names, just a screenshot of them starting up a match on netplay.

View attachment 3647047

As this lead to people ripping on the scene that Ouji cast under fire, a TO from the region responds: (archive)

View attachment 3647074

In the least shocking twist on earth, the user admits they made it up, and this isn't even the first time he's stirred the pot for no real reason at least according to the TO.

As such, the user is now taking a break from twitter and his local FGC scene... hopefully

this is the sad reality of the current anime FG scene, one of the top 8 EVO melty players Luna got banned from some tournaments for using dead apostle noel, no joke, they ban you now for using what they consider "minor" or "waifu bait" characters, many people on twitter will try to get you permabanned from many places.

Part of this ridiculous situation is thanks to the new gen of people gettin introduced to anime or just "neco arc" meme lords, before when I used to compete on KOF and SF the melty venue used to be chill as fuck, same with some side games like arcana heart, had a great time with those people, fun times.

My problem with Strive, and a lot of the simplified fighting games that are coming out, is that its not only lowering the entry point, but its also lowering the skill ceiling, it makes it so that player expresion is a lot less varied and unlike games like for example DBFZ or UMvC3, where the teams already bring a lot of options to the fight by itself, 1v1 fighters live and die on pure player expresion through the fighting mechanics
Edit: btw, I dont mean that strive is a simple game, I like it, but it is a step down from +R or Xrd

The problem with strive at least for me and it's exactly the same problem that games like DNF duel have and that is the mentality that "buffing" characters and mechanics to appeal to broader audiences, for me that makes the game feel so boring.

before, games were busted as fuck, yes, but they had that wow factor: not everyone could do the Urien unblockables in 3rd strike, not everyone knew to master DHC glitch in Marvel 2 and 3, not everyone could do a 3v1 combeback in KOF XIII, MvC, etc, now the broken stuff is available to everyone and that's what makes people dont like or get bored of some games farily quickly, you just have to look at characters like Swiftmaster in DNF duel that got destroyed in the most recent patch, even games that I love like KOFXV have characters like krohnen that only requires one single DP to do a 75% damage conversion with no effort.

this backfires horribly because it is inevitable to find the next busted character and discourages newcomers because they dont want to deal with the "crazyness" or "broken" stuff in a fighting game.

Understatement of the fucking Millennium

Spending lots of time on FightCade has made me grow bored of some popular fighters in favor of other lesser-known ones just for the sake of fucking variety. I could write my own wiki at this point because the patterns everyone online uses are so fucking obvious and dull, I wind up either rolling my eyes in disdain or get drowsy and want to fall asleep from lack of excitement.

well you are not the only one, I get what you mean, that lead me to play other games like rage of dragons and breakers, but the "WoW" factor was still there, I cant say the same about some modern games.

Apparently a new Tekken "anime" (note: 3D Cgi shit that looks like an anime) came out on Netflix, and it's pretty shitty from the clips I've seen (Maybe worse than the 90s one). They really ruined Julia and Nina.

That magic will never happen again. Third Strike and MvC2 had those magic moments because they were made as games for people to play (I'd also say Vampire, but let's be real: Vampire was always lazy and halfassed even with Savior). Ono tried to bring that Third Strike feel with SF4: AE (aka Hong Kong Edition, Twins Edition), and everyone hated it. MvC3 was just a meh fighting game that pandered to the hardcore MvC2 fans/SoCal fgc only to fizzle because no one likes a game where only 6 out of 50+ characters are good (thanks, Jean). You can't jujst manufacture that magic, which explains why most fighters are shitty.

The FGC is a lost cause because normies don't give a shit, and shills like Jmcrofts, Max, Sajam, and Justin Wong will gladly push agendas and even censorship/cancel culture for money and relevancy (Max is the only one that gets any viewership). I'll agree with you that meme fags like Legacy of Kaiser ruined fighting games too.

So I'll say it with no sugar coating: Strive is a simple baby game and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.

:punished:
strive music is nickelback tier buttrock and i’m tired of people pretending it’s anywhere close to as good as the old instrumental soundtracks
There hasn't been a good Arcsys track since the first 2 Blazblue games, and the last decent Arcsys game was the second Blazblue (Before Platinum was a character). Here, let's throw some more hot takes: There hasn't been a good Tekken and Soul game since Tekken 5 Vanilla and Soul Calibur 1, and guest characters in fighting games were a mistake because eventually there will probably be legal Hell.

rage of dragons and breakers
both really great games I play as well. That and Karnov's Revenge, although that one is just straight-up busted.

I'm hoping for the day Dark Legend/Outlaws Of The Lost Dynasty is available on FightCade. It's another Data East game that plays like a mix of Street Fighter and Samurai Showdown. I used to play it all the time on the Sega Saturn.

Nah, while it's kinda weird looking due to the shading, the new Tekken anime is pretty okay...which puts it miles above previous Tekken efforts. But yeah, Nina gets jobbed by Xiaoyu and Michelle uses her Tekken 7 design and is a relatively minor character. It's also mopey as fuck and kinda slow to start. Not great but much more watchable than most fighting game anime. I think they did okay.

Also on the topic of "player expression", can I just mention Fight of Steel? Taiwanese indie fighter where you make a custom robot character. I've seen various major FGC guys play it and somehow NONE OF THEM comprehend the idea of "Make a custom character". Watched Justin Wong lab the default moveset for over an hour and NEVER considered making a custom moveset. And yeah I understand why, because custom characters are banned in most games and fighting games have to be consistant and all that but this game is literally built ENTIRELY around custom characters. There are only four default movesets. Arcade Mode opponents are literally just hitting the Random button on the character creator. But for some reason, no one can break that basic mindset of "gotta use defaults". It's a fucking $12 indie fighter! Cut it the fuck out!

Anime fighters been bringing in the most obnoxious crowd ever since the least funniest meme got added to the melty roster but honestly all anime fighters are autists that just can't chill out.

We're way past the point of where niche games get labbed and played for fun. Most communities just play for social points or whatever shit 10 second clip that can be spewed on YouTube.

Personally I can feel my competitive side fading for in person events, but thank god everything I care about getting rollback. I just can't sit by a heavy breathing tranny for hours as they have a mental breakdown cause they couldn't tech a throw.

Thank christ I stopped watching MaxDood's videos when he started to creame his pants over SF6 like a soyboy faggot. I had no idea he supported the SFV censorship.

When he just plays fighting games, it's fine, but it's when he opens his mouth that things get a bit fucky. Even when the writing is on the wall, he likes to be TOO optimistic with his predictions and still support piece of shit devs like Capcom by consooming their shit products while telling everyone to do the same thing.
Wait, so you enjoyed him when he's playing with his insufferable pinko woke friends (mostly that lardass white guy), but him lusting over the SF6 diversity additions was too far?

CVS2 and MVC2 are the only two old 2D games that seem to have this problem with only picking specific characters for the 3v3 when they have a really big roster (not sure about the old KOF games
It wasn't really a problem in KoF 98 as well (The only competitively viable old-school KoF until XIII & 02-UM rolled around 14 years later) unless you allowed Omega Rugal.

I'm sure unless you live in SNK dominate countries it'll fade out just as quick as any snk game since it'll be up against SF6 and probably Project L at that time.
Even in SNK countries like Mexico & Brazil it'll be heavily restricted given how poor the fanbase there is. Most of their national-level tournaments still involve KoF 98 or 02 arcade cabinets because they're the games with the lowest and most accessible entry barriers; you just need a peso and 2 feet to walk to the pirated arcade cabinet at the local convenience store down the street, compared to 10 thousand pesos for a PS4 Pro and a copy of KoF XV.
SNK is sustained by fan nostalgia and did make great games, but they're never going to compete with Capcom or NRS lest the new Garou is some god-tier shit in every category with an incredible online experience.

Wait, so you enjoyed him when he's playing with his insufferable pinko woke friends
lolno. I never weatched any of those vids, just the ones with him alone. I first found out about him through that Street Fighter EX 3 video where he made an ass out of himself, and then the SFV Shadow Lady vid where he was getting his ass handed to him. His retrospectives are fine, his boss rage vids are O.K. albeit a bit frustrating that for someone that's "pro" he keeps falling for the same CPU patterns. Once in a while he'll make good points.

Overall he was tolerable before we went full soy over SF6. Even his Bring Back MvC2 hastag "movement" was a bit annoying, especially when he went "i mean yea there's fightcade and emulation BUT..." as if buying another copy on current gen machines was the ONLY legit way to enjoy the game with other people. Idk why he thinks giving Capcom more money will have them grant his wishes.
