Fighting Game Community (FGC) General - The history of FGC drama, general FGC shenanigans, and directory to more eccentric individuals and subcultures within the community

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Fightcade2 is an emulator where both people have to have the rom, and you both emulate the ROM at the same time. It also has some issues, me and my buddy would desync from some games. But because it's an emulator it only can run older games. Also fightcade2 uses ggpo which is excellent, but I don't think it uses it for every game...mostly the good ones but I could be wrong.

Parsec is a screen sharing service, it can run anything. You can share your desktop and let your buddy take control of you want. So you can play literally every game on it, as long as parsec can hook into the process. It doesn't use rollback, because it's not emulating frames of the game it's literally restreaming your screen to your buddy. But because it can do so in very low latency it makes most fighting games online better.

For the best experience, you probably want to use fightcade2 on games it supports, then parsec for everything else. Parsec should also be forward compatible, so new games can be played this way too. I'd recommend both for whatever you are playing, but parsec is more of a general tool the brings all fighting (and other, cup head and gungeon online coop is pretty fun) games up to a pretty good online standard.

Another important thing to point out is that in parsec the host doesn't have any latency so they have an advantage, but I've seen parsec being used more often for co-op games, but if both parties have a good connection and the other parties have low ping then the latency is very low as you said.

Yeah there might be some host advantage of a handful of milliseconds, but if the connection is good and the distance isn't that large I think it's almost negligible I personally haven't heard any arguments breaking out over who gets to host, when FGC people are so finicky that they'll hold up the grand finals of the largest tournament for side switching, which caused a big controversy at the time.

rip Ono-san, you were apparently a scumbag that had more losses than hits, but you did single-handedly revive fighting games from the dead with sf4.

Here's who replaced him...the SF6 gachas will be fantastic I'm sure.

In more lighthearted news, there was a female-only tournament on the first of this month in SF5. Queens of Quarantine. It went basically as could be expected.

Just my opinion, but I still have never seen a woman play Street Fighter in my life and actually enjoy it. Or even pretend to enjoy it.

Uh oh some people are mad

Anyways what do you fighting game kiwis think of this vid?
It's obviously a biased list, and not a great one at that. His points he makes about the games are typically fine, the big boi fighting games all have trash netcode and the indie games with good netcode were forsaken when Evo died this year. He's obviously biasing melee because its his money maker, but everything else is mostly accurate.

It's a trash list because he rates the game bad by design then turns around and rates it bad because of player counts. But then he bumps games up because he likes them or wants them to be good, regardless of design or player counts. Much like most tier lists, easier to ignore and laugh at everyone getting bent out of shape by it while playing laggy players in sfv/tekken or waiting in a lobby for super hyper master double platinum uranium tier player to destroy you in an indie game.

I looked at the end of the list and he only put 3 games in bad in total. The rest were flawed and melee was ranked great. The other games that were ranked were put in dead. Now I don't remember him saying the dead games were bad per say just inactive.

Now as for why there is a "dead" category in a tier list I can see why people would have a problem with that. (Because well, dead isn't the quality of the game).

Did you hear that? According to Gootecks, the pandemic is over!
Unsurprisingly, he's getting roasted for saying this, and for the source he used.

wow, Gootecks keeps digging.

Gootecks said:
Well guys, it's come to this, I guess, I got to take back what I said on the Ernesto Lopez show the other day about whether or not the FGC has gone soft, because it looks like indeed, it has.
Now, it really wasn't that long ago that r/Kappa was a place of shit posts, memes, waifus, blow ups and all kinds of stuff. It was the wild wild west out here.
But the one thing that you could count on with r/Kappa was that it was, at the very least, real and raw. I'm not so sure anymore.
I've seen a lot of, ya know, "problematic" posts on here over the years, and to read the comments of some of you... it's just kind of disappointing.
I didn't just show up. I may not post, but I have lurked for a long time and, and not just in this sub, but all over reddit. You search this sub for photos of gootecks and Mike Watson from Evo 20XX (who even knows how long ago it was). Both of us wearing r/Kappa shirts.
I thought I was one of you guys! Then you go and do me like that. I see how it is.
In all seriousness, I'm actually pretty surprised that most people in here are just so ready, willing, and able to accept all of this from the far left. Didn't this place have a reputation for being far right and racist at times?
I really thought the r/kappa I used to know would have a fair amount of people in here that know what's ACTUALLY going on in the world and can see through this coronacircus.
For what it's worth, I really did my best to try to engage with people honestly on Twitter and really have a discussion. Should I expect more from reddit?
I would think fgc people would value things like data, evidence, and reason. But maybe times have changed? Or did this sub get overtaken by bots and shills like the rest of reddit and nobody seemed to notice?
I put together a pretty lengthy article that contains screenshots, video, and all sources cited that support my reasoning and logic. If you really give a fuck enough to take a cheap shot at me and defend this insanity, then by all means read this and then let me know which part of it doesn't add up. We don't need to agree, but I'm not sure that most people have really taken the time to actually do some research and give understanding an honest try.
what's the deal with hydroxychloroquine?

When I saw tweets about gootecks supporting "right wing conspiracy theories" I thought they meant QAnon, not this shit. Lame.

Lab Zero is currently imploding in on itself and Skullgirls is fucking dead. Mike Z got his final cancellation today, with employees leaving the company.
This is from Brian Jun, EU03, one of Lab Zero's founding members aside from the main trio.

TL;DR -- After the BunnyAyu shit, Lab Zero's "board of directors" (which likely included Mariel Cartwright and Jun himself) tried to oust Mike. Mike at first agreed, but only if they paid him a large severance check and/or likely gave him rights to the Skullgirls engine.

Of course, Lab Zero is a fucking financial shitshow of a company, so of course, they couldn't pay him. So Mike decided that he would stay.

Better yet, the "board of directors" is full of such fucking smoothbrained morons that they ACTUALLY thought it was a good idea to fucking give Mike the power to fire all of them.
1598240133810.png

They basically went "Hey, hold the company real quick for us while we draft up the paperwork to get you fired."
and then Mike went "lul thanks dumbass, you're all fired, get fucked faggot now I'm Lab Zero games".

This is from a member who did stuff for Lab Zero but left after the Ayu shit.

They even gave the reason for why Alex Ahad, the main artist, was fired. It wasn't Mike Z who did it, even though people suspected it was him. It was the same people who tried to oust Mike Z who fired Ahad.

1598237706172.png

Alex sued for wrongful termination and got a fuckton of money. This definitely must've shot a massive hole through the already financially sinking ship that Lab Zero is.
However, the same sentiment that Alex is a douche isn't shared by all of the members (though this one is a contractor (and a major sperg))

another funny pic because this guy loves to spaz the fuck out about everything:

"Hostile" is a common term used in every one of these "Fuck Mike Z, I'm leaving Lab Zero" posts.
From what I see, "hostility" to these spineless faggots is being told "no" or having disagreements with someone, like in the case with Alex.

He was clearly very protective of the Indivisible concept as rumors said, and of course was hesitant to change anything about it since it was basically his 2nd passion pet project so they terminated him. And, of course, removing him from the project is what lead us to getting the utter borefest that Indivisible is today. Gee, who would've guessed!

With Mike, it's him being a picky autistic fuck who was really choosy as to what he added or didn't add to the engine. Nice that @necrosofty admitted that he and others were so pussy they needed to talk shit on him in the DMs since they couldn't confront him meaningfully.
In other cases, like that of Beezul and his crazy fucking rant over Mike Z, "hostility" means "he made jokes that made me feel uncomfy" meanwhile Beezul himself admitted to wanting to hit Z several times for his bad jokes.

Now you may be asking what Mariel's doing right now?
She's on the side of the people against Mike Z, liking posts about how awful he is and why people quit. Like these.

1598239173016.png

1598239235431.png

I expect her to make a tweet on this eventually.

Even one of the two original "accusers", Carbonbae, came out of the woodwork to accuse Mike of even worse shit that she for some reason didn't say before when she accused him the first time.

I don't even know or care who this fucking cunt is or why she keeps shoving her dumb fat mouth into this either:
1598241211735.png

i know she's a TO or something but holy shit shut the fuck up

Mike clearly wanted to kill Lab Zero after this mutiny happened one way or the other. Either he left and took a sizeable chunk of money from them along with the rights to the Skullgirls engine, from a game which is Lab Zero's only viable way of making money nowadays, OR, he stays and the people against him leave, the people against him being almost entirely comprised of the company's artists.
Regardless, the company was deep in shit creek as soon as Bunny cried harassment after starting her cringy DM conversation with Mike.

TL;DR -- Skullgirls is a fucking cursed game with incompetent management and a creative team full of backstabbing snakes.
TL;DR;DR -- Never, EVER get involved with cosplay thots
TL;DR;DR;DR -- YandereDev is happy.

Worst possible ending: Mike Z Holowka's himself and every snake pretends to cry in sympathy.
Best possible ending: Sonicfox necks himself over all of this.

Personally, I wish I could try and get my boss ousted/fired for being an assertive/aggressive dick. If only jobs worked that way in real life.

And damn, who would've thought making an indie game company comprised almost entirely of porn artists and Tumblr users would end badly?

Be as it may, that game had other problems too, like how the voice acting is fucking atrocious... like fucking "Freedom Planet" bad.

Fix'd and should be a general rule for all men. Fucking put that shit on a gold plaque and hang it on your wall like if it was the 10 commandments or something.

It's such a shame that game is so cursed. SG 1v1 is one of the most fun fighting games out there I find, my brain is too smooth to really grasp defending against team setups. Mike Z is a mega talented programmer, and Alex Ahad had a truly unique vision and a love for big ol' anime tiddies. Lab Zero may have to burn in today's puritan world, but I think there was real talent lost in this whole kerfuffle. Maybe somehow they come out of this the other side less pozzed and restricted...but probably not. Rip FGC some more.
