Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

They're pretty boring in Ultimate too, once you get the mechanics down. Sometimes even more so- mechanics in that content have a higher chance of just killing you if you fail them, so there's nothing you as a healer can do to drag the party forward through it. It leans even *more* into rigidly asking you to heal once or twice a minute, then brainlessly spamming your 1 key the rest of the time.
As a retard who plays scholar in high end content, this is painfully accurate.
Essentially every mechanic, when failed, will probably wipe the group. So as a healer you exist to mitigate/heal raidwides. That's it.
I think I'm done with healing after this savage tier.

My brother you have two choices layed out before you, you can be a DPS Normie and suffer being just part of the group or you can become a Tank Chad and lead the group to victory!

Regarding the new alliance raid

So Deryk has to be related to Althyk somehow. The guy acts strangely, clearly has some connection to the realm of the gods, and has a lavender hair color, a color that is in the lore the color of Althyk. Not sure what this means for the story yet, but I have some theories. Perhaps as the god of space and time Althyk is the last remaining of the twelve and has created a realm separate in space and time to test the Warrior of Light, either to see if they're strong enough to protect the star without Hydaelyn, or perhaps to find someone strong enough to defeat him and end his eternal solitary existence

Yeah I'm probably gonna go back to tanking again. I started eden as a healer, got sick of it and ran e5s-e8s as a tank, and then stupidly decided I wanted to give healing another chance. No more.

I want to be a healer. That's what I like to do in games like this... but not like this.

tanks are just dps with less interesting rotations who push taunt every now and then and use mitigation on tankbusters

in all honesty, they've clearly settled on the kinds of encounters and the overall combat system they want,. it doesn't really anymore resemble a classical RPG style (manage threat, manage mana, etc) and it's now in favor of something more action-y, with rigid rotations and you managing resources that are class-specific and couched around cooldowns. that's fine, except that tanks and healers don't fit into this mold that well the way they've built the encounters.

I get that they tried to standardize some of the tanking stuff to play better with raid buffs, but now there's less to really manage. On a warrior, you can... what, try to cap rage and try to make sure that you cap infuriate charges after you've done bungamode and some cleaves during the buff window? GNB and DRK can also pool resources/cds for that window (get fucked paladins, you can save... your one ogcd with charges?), and that's all the more optimization you've really got. Healers can snapshot their DoTs, wowzers. Scholar can what, pool AF stacks to try to squeeze 9 EDs into a window if they're standing completely still and someone else will use ogcds on the tank? then tanks go 1-2-3 and healers go 1-1-1

Both need more active things to do, but current design on boss encounters doesn't really give them much room. If you try to make healing into a more-active minigame where you could, say, combo heals to get more potency out of them... the damage is too sporadic to necessitate it. If you try to bring threat back as a concept, the culture of parsetrannies means you'll have someone choosing damage over threat every single time, and you'll get even more button bloat despite your core rotation being an unchanging 1-2-3.

Further, dumbing a whole lot of shit down to 1-2-3 (if that) combos has given them a real windfall in the overall playerbase, many of whom are still struggling to master said 1-2-3. Or even the idea of using AoE skills. They aren't gonna make them any more interesting or complicated any time soon. So tanking and healing are roles where you basically need to get some kind of compensation from your friends to play, unless you're more in it to chill and don't really care about being that engaged or having much to do. But I think fewer and fewer people see raiding as a social hobby to chill with friends over, and more and more see it as a stand-in for gainful employment.
Genuinely still not sure how you're supposed to even find people who are even remotely stable human beings to hang with in the first place. It sure ain't like the old days where the football team would raid black temple after practice, that's for sure.

Honestly. I started on healer and it's not that bad imo.

I find that the run-to-run variance means that you've kinda gotta be prepared to quickly work around whatever happens in the moment, while also planning your heals or mit around whatever you know comes in the fight. The simple design also means that you can basically be looking at the raid as a whole the entire time and watching everyone's positioning, bars, etc. And also being a bit predictive as you go "someone's gonna fuck this up, let's keep an eye out and try to save their ass".

The role could do with some more complexity in the damage rotation though. It makes sense that DPSing as healer isn't really that mechnically deep since it'd otherwise take away from keeping an eye on the party. But even a 1-2 or 1-2-3 combo would be nice. SGE is probably the best example of damage on a healer now purely because Dosis, Phlegma and Toxikon are all used in fights so you have a couple alternate attacks to break up the single button spam.

Reworked Prae is actually really nice now. The bosses have actual mechanics (including a DPS check during Gaius wtf), the trash is reduced (and what trash remains is mandatory), and the cutscene where Cid talks your ear off about the magitek suit has been replaced with a "This is Thancred" style voiceover that covers everything that was in the cutscene only you don't have to stop during it. And the lightning and textures have been touched up significantly.

Haven't gotten CM or Ultima weapon in my MSQ roulette yet, but I imagine they're similarly improved.

Castrum is pretty much just a bog standard dungeon. Took about 20 minutes. Pretty boring overall, but the new Livia fight is much improved.

The stakes aren't nearly as high as you think. We killed the Cloud of Darkness ages ago and she's like the big deal of the void.
Give CoD a little credit, she was held back by the pact and wasn't even close to truly being killed. CoD savage is probably waiting for us eventually.

Also, as far as that new raid goes, there is no fucking way that chipmunk isn't a disguised diety.

Interesting tidbit, the Moenbryda minion description is different as of 6.1:
View attachment 3175912
For those of you that didn't see or forgot the original English text, it was this:
"This anatomically accurate representation of Moenbryda was secretly crafted by none other than Urianger immediately following the untimely passing of his beloved companion. What he did with it before it passed to your hands is a tale best left untold."

I'm not against it, honestly. To my knowledge no other dialogue or text is altered, so I think this was to fit the character(s) and be closer to the Japanese text rather than kowtowing to some harpies or censorship. Weird to imagine Urianger being crass like this with her after that one scene in Endwalker.
I’ve seen a ton of people who got upset and offended by the original text. I remember a funny XIV blog I used to like on Tumblr that suddenly asked followers to support their thread to change the minion’s text.

I remember when Savage coils came out people complained about the turn 9s achievement name being transphobic (it was called The Crying Game) and asked for it to be changed. To be fair I could see where people were coming from with that one but SE changed the title to “Scent of a Woman” which is…really not that much better.

Based on the characteristics of the twelve, I find it more likely that either Deryk or the monkey are Oschon in disguise, considering Oschon is the god related to explorers and wanderers. I've also seen someone on twitter post a picture of the astrologian card for the arrow which has a picture of him on it, and Oschon and Deryk do resemble each other.

I guess enough people made jokes about Urianger boinking the doll that they just had to change it.

Tbh, probably a good change. Cus when I first saw the original description, I was horrified for a moment, then I laughed.

They also already set this up in Shadowbringers (it's the series of quests that show up after you complete all of the Role Quests in SHB).

My understanding is..

The 13th is basically what happens if the Ascians tip the elemental balance (similar to the 1st in Shadowbringers) but aren't able to trigger a rejoining - that element just runs rampant in that reflection.

The 13th is basically the 1st with Darkness instead of Light, but it also wasn't stopped by anyone and was able to go 100% into one element.
Heck the void was basically setup bsck in Heavensward. Didn't think it'd tie into the 13th though, but it does make sense.

I hope we get to see our Sky Pirate buddies again. I fuckong loved that questline. Kinda felt like a side quest for an old Dreamcast/Gamecube JRPG called Skies of Arcadia.

The 12 are 100% The ascians that helped Venat sunder the world right? I got the final Blasphamy being Varis's spirit wrong I need this prediction to break even.

Yeah I have seen people suggest they're perma-transformed ancients and I feel like that could be possible. Though my first thought was that most of the transformations we've seen so far are more abstract than the mostly humanoid twelve, I guess that doesn't mean it's impossible for their transformations to be more plainly human.

Anybody notice that Kate is a hair-dyed gender obsessed SJW behind the English translations of Final Fantasy XIV? The one that refused to translate 'otokonoko' during a live Q&A panel. And the one behind the pixies as 'nonbinary'.

Already people are spotting her "translations". If only the Japanese developers would fix this shit.

I'm fine with the pixies being non binery, the souls of dead children with regrets probably shouldn't have any sexual organs ether way.

Not to excuse the rest of this, as it is retarded gender politics bullshit, but pixies and "fae folk"-like beings not having a gender isn't that unusual in fiction as it adds to their otherworldly appeal. These pixies are not some Tinkerbell rip off, they are meant to actually use Fae folk to its potential and not just slap some small bitch with wings, weird magic, and then call it a day. I wouldn't call them nonbinary personally, but it isn't exactly wrong to say they are by our definitions considered "nonbinary".

Fae literally don't give a flying shit about gender, sex, or a lot of things most people do as they tend to have a very bizarre way of thinking compared to mortals. While people like this say gender is a social construct, a Fae would think gender is a useless construct entirely.

So, the new housing lotto went well.

The ward my FC chose, not a single plot was sold. Will be interesting how this plays out.

Myself and my friends are going to be ultra pissed if they make us wait a whole extra 10 days to get our FC plot that was uncontested besides the bids members of our own FC placed.

Kate is apparently friends with Ishikawa. Looking forward to her adding the full complement of western degeneracy to the lore as she's immersed in it by osmosis.

But then again, the JP team is pretty tranny-friendly overall so it's not like it's out there for this sort of stuff to exist.

I'm putting my money on them being like the auspices or elementals - forces of nature with an associated mind. Possibly existing since the time of the Ancients. If they were simply unsundered that had been transformed then Emet-Selch would have probably mentioned them.

Also the Ascians that helped Venat summon Hydaelyn gave up their aether in the process so I don't think there's any way for them to continue existing in any form.
