Finally found some fanart for dawntrail.
Do you wanna know the funny part?

There's a hint.

Just a tiny, microscopic hint.

Of this being an actual wuk lamat character flaw. That's why there's lip service paid to the idea she's going to try and keep the WoL as part of her court.

But it's really only their excuse to have Wuk come to the last two zones, so she can learn something there.

And it makes no sense to have that be the theme of a .0 msq questline, where we'll be stuck in the area for another five patches.

This is something that you integrate in during .4 and .5. To give the end of the expac a bit of tension.

I have no desire to level combat classes, work on gathering or gathering (was level 90 omniclass), or do roulettes to gear a single class to try extremes (despite enjoying the expert roulette). This expansion took some recent trends (I HEARD YOU KIDS LIKE SYNTHWAVE) and tried to cram that in for appeal instead of making a compelling story. This kind of cynicism from a developer is really off-putting.

Maybe the 7.X plotlines will be so amazing as to reel me back in. 🌈

I WANT to like Wuk Lamat, and I'm putting the tranny VA aside here, but Wuk is just not good character. There's a good character there, but it's been done all wrong. The constant having to deal with WL, the interrupting the final trial, talking to her repeatedly, over and over and over again, it's just too much. It feels, imo, like it's someone self insert character where they're besties with thr WoL.

No, my WoL would have told Galool JaJa straight up "She is not ready, and I doubt she will be. She doesn't have the strength to take on these challenges on her own. When she takes a tumble, she takes it REALLY hard, and a leader can't do that. If I weren't here, she'd be dead."

Incidentally, Bakool Ja would have been dealt with after the first transgression.

Also, seriously disappointed there wasn't more us vs them shenanigans throughout the story. When Thancred brought down the cave during that dungeon, my immediate thought was, "Oh, you're sto gonna pay for that later Thancred."

There should have been much more of that. Them sabotaging us, and us doing the same to them. There's also a massively missed opportunity of having us fight against our own passed comrades.

HATED the breaks being hit once we went into the golden city. That was whiplash inducing.

This expansion has given me an incentive to fish for a reason other than being able to brag that I have the Ruby Dragon.
Currently the lowest-effort way to make money is by fishing up Goldgroupers at the Alexandrian Ruins in the fifth zone. Each one is worth 79 orange scrip and can be hooked up at a common rate even with the Versatile Lure, and for every ~50 you get, you can trade them in for 4 Rroneek Horn tokens.
This functions almost identically to the Bicolor Gemstone vouchers for the Wivre, and Turali vouchers for the Ty'aitya, just that it's for gatherers instead and you need 100,000 total currency instead of 50,000.

The horns are currently going for around 45M Gil on most servers' market boards, and due to the sheer price most people want to use the Mannequin method to trade for it without any tax on either end at a slightly cheaper price. That way you make 40M and the other player pays you 40M. Rather than the other player paying 42M and the greedy lalafells that own the market board only giving you 38M from that.

Step 1: Own a house, apartment, or have a free company room in a FC House that is open to outsiders.
Step 2: Put down a Mannequin and go through the setup.
Step 3: Pick "Select Gear to Sell" and put an outfit item on the Mannequin for an extremely high price. People use this to make trading gil in quantities of over 1 million easier.
Step 4: Tell the person you're going to be selling the item to to meet you at your house/apartment/FC room.
Step 5: Wait for the toast that the item has sold for an absurd amount of gil.
Step 6: Trade the Scrip Voucher/Gemstone Voucher/Criterion Dungeon/Faux Leaves/Map/Bozja Duty Final Boss Mount or Faux Leaves/Copycat Bulb/Expensive Map minion to them.

If you're selling a Khloe Gold Voucher top, you can skip steps 5 and 6 since they'll be directly buying it from the mannequin.

It’s hilarious that they brought this up as a big part of the story leading up to release and it only being two scions and it more or less ending by level 93

I wish I share your optimism, but judging from how 6.X was handled, there's little signs they'd learn.
What was the Japanese reception to 6.X? I think that might be the deciding factor, as the JP audience apparently does not like 7.0's story.

Alliance raids should still be fire, at least, and the raid proper itself might be interesting.

Raid content has been pretty good and encounter design has been solid in DT thus far, so I don't see that ending anytime soon (insert rainbows here.)

Koana needed at least one more Scion on his side to be a real threat. Giving him one of the ones that went for Wuk, maybe one of the twins, would have been perfect for levelling the score - giving Wuk Krile, Probably-Alisaie, and You as co-combatants, and giving Koana Thancred, Probably-Alphinaud, and Urianger as co-combatants. That'd make it 4 to 4 in a dungeon, and could have been a really fun setup for a boss.

Another option that would have synergised extremely well with his ideal would be to give him Y'shtola. In fact that'd make his team a perfect LP - a tank, a healer, a phys ranged dps and a magic dps. You can't tell me that Y'shtola A: wouldn't be a perfect compliment to his team, and B: wouldn't have straightened his shit right out with her experience from the night's blessed.

Or just, you know, giving anyone a single named combatant that doesn't come from the scions. That'd work too.

Really, my ideal DT is to have both Wuk and Koana as candidates, and join you for one of the first two feats each. then adjust the MSQ so you can choose after who is the candidate you're backing for the rest of the comp. At the end, the one you didn't pick forfeits to support the other in the Gulool Ja Ja fight, and then the winner nominates them as their co-host, same as the story goes now.

Edit because I found I've quite enjoyed watching some parts of the MSQ with this in mind: if you start mentally replacing every wuk lamat SPHEEEEEEENE with a vinesauce vinny SPEEEEN the MSQ improves tenfold.

I will always believe that Living Memory should have just been post-patch. The Rite should have been a competition we got somewhat involved in.

We land in Tural. Wuk gives us a grand tour of Tuliyollal and heads off to prepare for the Rite. An NPC announces the start of the competition and introductions as normal. The first dungeon is just WoL running into some randoms and deciding to explore with them because fuck it, you don't have anything better going on. After, we run into Lamaty'i having trouble with the first set of Feats. Give her a hand, then back on the road(lv. 90-93). Later on, after getting a tip on a place to check out, you meet the Yok Huy and learn about Valigarmanda and their customs, transitioning into the 2nd dungeon and again helping Wuk Lamat with the Rite. Bakool Ja Ja shenanigans proceed as normal, including the first Wuk Lamat solo trial(lv. 94-96). Now we get to the final Feat. Throughout the MSQ, Zarool Ja is just a split second too late, not strong enough, and far too stoic to make a real claim despite his miracle birth leading to his disqualification. Bakool Ja Ja gets banished not for being a failure, but for unleashing Valigarmanda, leading to him challenging Wuk Lamat yet again. Here is where he should accept that she is just better. Reveal deep, dark secret as normal and 3rd Dungeon(lv. 97-98) Instead of immediately going straight to shit going south, we get to spend some time with Erenville and Krile since there's no real reason to hang around Tuliyollal now the Rite's been completed and it's been a while since we just fucked off and did our own thing. Wild West mini-arc happens, we meet Cahicua, and see Erenville's village before getting fucked by Solution 9. Then the official announcement happens and Zarool Ja attacks during the ceremony and the story proceeds as normal, including Vanguard and Origenics ending at Everkeep with Solution 9 being the last area(99-100)

It's a real shame because Living Memory is very beautiful in itself and the symbolism of it becoming dead was supposed to resonate in some way but the bad writing just...taints the whole thing. You think to yourself, "wow this is neat" only for you to remember how awful the lead up was and then inevitably sigh at the amount of lost potential.

A city of dead and they did....that with it. What a waste.

You just don't have enough media literacy to understand that it's meta commentary on how it's the city where the player's hopes of DT being a good expansion go to die.

It's crazy how we had some of the best solo instances in Endwalker such as fighting against Venat using mechanics you'd see later in Hydaelyn's fight, and the famous timed mission where you need to race Zenos to get back before he kills your allies in your body. And in Dawntrail, we had like... 2 good ones?
This is another thing that completely baffles me in the downgrading. Like Endwalker or not, the solo instances were perfectly implemented and improved on Shadowbringers' good stuff. Entering Garlemald and fighting the tempered with the other NPCs is my personal favorite out of the expac behind In From the Cold and both are in my top 10 overall, I can't think of an uninteresting solo duty in Endwalker.

So why does Dawntrail fumble it so hard aside from the admittedly pretty cool Gulool Ja Ja fight? Why didn't we get to fight against the Scions, just for fun? Why are potential mini-games entirely squandered so you just sit and watch Wuk do everything or deal with a bland cutscene?

I mean its just the Amarout Story but told significantly worse with less than a fraction of the investment.

Just got BLM to 100, and Flare Star is the best feeling move I've seen so far in DT. Main caster found. Though, making a mistake in fire phase and missing a Fire 4 for the gauge feels even worse now.

Funny thought about Y'shtola joining Koana. Think for just a moment.

Y'shtola: "Remember when you threw me under the rug during the voidgate? Remember how you mocked "Froth and Foam!"? Remember all those times you've been a little thorn in my side? Well now it's time for your punishment!"

Queue a fight with Y'shtola as a boss. Hell, make her a trial for gods sake.

Only if it ends with her head on a pike, Onyxia-style.

Trial against half the Scions, and the Extreme is against all the Scions.
