Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Bozja was so awesome. I loved the wartime setting. The big events would have people and there were multiple objectives
The only way DT could possibly redeem itself would be for post expansion to have Bozja 2.0.

That and Wuk Lamat literally exploding into a shower of gore because she overloaded her Aether lowercase screaming 'speen lissun tu mi' or some other bullshit. I'm even willing to buy she confused 'The Key' with a cup, drank wine from it because orange cat 1 brain cell and just fucking dies, anything to get rid of that thing.

Occult Crescent, 7.25.
Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker Relics were all added at x.25 alongside the side content they wanted to push. (Bozja was properly added in 5.35 because muh covid, the first Variant Dungeon was in 6.25.)
Heavensward relics were added in 3.15 as well as Old Old Diadem.
ARR brought... Big Fish as side content in 2.2x, I guess? And PVP in 2.1x.

Revealed in 2024 CN Fanfest:
Even the most dauntless of sailors would sooner abandon ship than steer into Shades' Triangle. Be not fooled by the lush and fertile island you spy on the horizon─men and vessels alike have been lost to its allure, never to be seen again. Yes, the wisest choice is to dismiss it as mere illusion. But of course, there are inevitably those who cannot resist the call of adventure.
Time for the age-old trope of NPCs being too retarded to know how to do X until Protagonist-Kun-Chan-Desu-Sama tells them how to press the red button.

It seems like it's going to be based on FFV and we're likely going to get more lore from Ronka there.

I know they probably don't read here, but IF it were to happen.

Why stop at hrothgars? turn everyone into Wuk Lamat. Replace the 'Final Fantasy' in the splash screen with 'Wuk Lamat' too.

And if this thing can be modded in the same way you can Dark Souls, replace every texture with Wuk Lamat.

Replace every sound in the game with "speen. listentome." a la the Morrowind Tim Taylor mod.
Does anyone know if we were ever promised an Ivalice style MMORPG out of this game?
There was apparently more stuff planned for Bozja but it was quietly shelved with the FFT writer who was guesting on it ending his involvement. There was no real explanation given as to why, and his abrupt departure is why we got those hastily scribbled Field Notes that are more or less an epilogue for the Bozja storyline.

Beyond that, he might be conflating fan theorycrafting/wishful thinking given that the Zodiac Braves show up super early in ARR with the Relic questline, but I'd argue it was super obvious from day one that ARR was going to be a pastiche of *all* the Final Fantasy games and not just focused on Ivalice.

Gabranth dying off screen and the whole thing being unceremoniously cut short pissed me off at the time.
At least they did it in a way where he could realistically return but they don't seem interested on revisiting Dalmasca / Garlean stuff anytime soon.

So some modder made an innocent little mod that removed Wuk Lamat from the game.
Reupload here, if anyone cares.

I'm currently working on Chocobo Racing, and my birds are now Pedigree 7. After I switched to using Grade 3 feeds, i'm winning basically every race that i don't get Brambled or Meteored in.

Anyone else having issues with the launcher tonight?

I'm getting either the white box where login info usually goes or a message regarding a login server error. My connection is fine; 286 down, 67 up. Nothing else is failing to load but I can't get the launcher to do anything after multiple restarts.

EDIT: secure.square-enix.com also fails to load, making me think this might be more than just me? I can login to literally any other MMO I have on my machine with regular performance, but right now I can't even get mogstation or the launcher to load.

I was having some disconnect issues earlier. Maybe the DDoSes are back?

the player team teams up with Koana for the cooking trial, and Koana is happy to throw in the towel and back WL up, immediately destroying any form of interesting dynamics and interactions between the characters.
I think they made him drop out because they knew a lotta players probably think he's a much better Dawnservant than WL. Wuk seems to really have done nothing for Tuliyollal before the expansion starts, while Koana actively studied abroad to bring back technology from overseas. Wuk Lamat only stepped out of the city to grab the strongest ally she could and bring them back to get her the best chances of winning (which also bugs me, bringing in allies is one thing, but surely "the person who just killed two gods, travelled to the edge of the universe and saved it" would be a bit far? They didn't know about the trials beforehand and if it was a combat trial, pretty much every other candidate could go "hold on... that's kinda bullshit").

Honestly, Koana has more full of a character than Wuk Lamat, and probably would have been a better MC. He's got more notable flaws, clearly being a bit quiet and introverted, having some self-doubt issues, but most interestingly, he pushes for Sharlayan technology very heavily (which could tie into some interesting conflict as he doesn't understand why people would do something in a worse way to preserve their culture).

The whole "both of them are Dawnservant" thing honestly just makes me think that Koana basically does the work, while Wuk Lamat is probably going to soak up the glory.

Really makes you wonder if the initial plan was to have the WOL support Koana. You can even see the natural lead-in. From Patch .1, or even before that, while the WOL was away dealing with bullshit in the 13th, the Sharlayan school got a new student seeking knowledge. You can then have the WOL run into Koana in between your errands for Vrtra, Estinien, the twins, whatever. Maybe even make Koana be instrumental into helping stop the off-brand Zeromus from breaking into the Source or something. Would be infinitely more natural that you then hop off on a boat to support him in return.

this now makes me think that Wuk as a character is DEI rather than just the VA
I doubt its that deep, Wuk is just a very generic happy go lucky shonen character with little to no other depths to her arc or personality beyond the "hur dur vehicles" quirk thats shonen as fuck (see, Natsu from Fairy Tail and probably more), Koana is very clearly just her complete opposite by being someone who is a bit more open about his self doubts and a pragmatic foil to Wuk, and a good excuse to why she can tag on to adventures since he can hold down the fort

I mean, that's literally how the latter half of the story justifies it's Speak to Wuk Lamat. Koana's managing the city and defense while wuk is telling speeeeeen to lissun.

Unrelated, but I'm honestly... genuinely disappointed that we end this with no real Beast Tribe leaders? Like, imagine if the obligatory female hroth was in Koana's position instead of wuk's, and wuk was a Mamool Ja. Gulool Ja doesn't count, he's a figurehead for a foreign occupation. We don't need another miqo around, we already got two in the main party.

...For that matter, when are we getting a Scion-equivalent Roegadyn again? I'm pretty sure the last one we had was... christ, Gosetsu? Was he the last universally important Roe?

You will accept being ruled by minorities and like it.
Honestly I think it's boring as well that the cat people have managed to infest three continents

Also, this was the female hrothgar expansion, so for strict marketing purposes, having the new character race option be front and center makes sense.

I don't really think there's any byzantine conspiracy theories behind the decision to create Wuk Lamat.

Koana being the main character is the actual smart choice, but would be pretty close to more or less repeating Alphinaud's general arc with the Crystal Braves (and would also avoid 'white savior' overtones which I do think they'd be frantically trying to avoid...)

It's clear that they were trying to go with 'trooncat is not at all suited for the role' angle, but fumbled the next part, which is 'but grows into becoming a capable leader.'

Gosetsu.
Also Merlwyb.
Moenbryda's Axe shows up in the level 89 dungeon.

The only Roe- "Galdjent" i distinctly remember being on the First was the guy who does the Alchemist/Culinarian quest.

I think you guys are massively overthinking the story. this is a C-tier anime plot with more gaping holes than Balmung's Quicksand. it is, at best, very roughly stapled on to the rest of the lore. Koana's existence in Sharlayan is an effective retcon; it is stated that he was undercover to explain why none of the Sharlayans in the main cast knew of his existence or recognized him. Koana's naïve obsession with foreign technology exists only as a plot device to demonstrate the superiority of Wut Lamao's Culture Respecting approach. the essence of the story is this: that Culture Respecting is the only Correct way to run a society, which makes Wuk Lamat the most enlightened and therefore most fit contender for the throne. everything works backwards from there. this is why Catgirl Jesus is always treated as the wisest character despite regularly proving herself to be dumb as shit and totally unqualified to wield power. even though she has the dumbest possible approach in almost every situation, everything always works out for the best because her heart is in the Correct place. all the other characters are half-formed vessels for incorrect alternatives that exist only to get owned by WL's spectacular displays of Culture Respecting. this is also why it's acceptable for Etheirys' most capable murderer, bearer of the invincible Plot Armor, to enter the fight on her behalf. of course the WoL - having been on the front lines of the fight against multiple opponents for whom mutual understanding did little to ward off brutal conflict - understands through experience that mutual understanding is the best way to ward off brutal conflict. therefore it is not just natural but Correct that the world's most powerful weapon of mass destruction uses Virtuous Violence to protect the Culture Respecter and ensure the completion of her ascendancy. welcome to the meritocracy, chud.

the only way they can fix this shitpile is by burning it down to the ground. if I was in put in charge of the writing, I would devote the 7.x patch series to a massive inversion of expectations in which Wuk Lamat's retarded social policies end up being ruinous for Tuliyollal, driving the continent into unprecedented internal conflict and causing Koana to lose faith in her while she becomes increasingly intractable and refuses to give up her half of the throne. eventually, Koana is forced to organize a bloody revolution with the reluctant assistance of the Scions. in the final patch fight, a crazed Wuk Lamat declares them all traitors to her and to Tuliyollal and attacks the Scions, forcing them to kill her in self defense. meanwhile, Koana - having slowly lost the goodness in his heart due to all the horrible shit he's done - has found the taste of being a warlord to his liking, and attempts to kill the Scions to eliminate the most immediate threat to his power, forcing them to kill him too. then the whole fucking continent gets blasted off the face of the planet in a cataclysmic explosion and everyone wakes up in Sharlayan like the entire stupid ass expansion never fucking happened. now 8.0 can go where 7.0 should have gone in the first place - the Void.

as an added bonus, for the rest of the story, every time you go to another reflection and meet the alternate universe version of Wuk Lamat, she suddenly and inexplicably dies in an unlikely and absolutely brutal accident. it can be a running joke. like Kenny from South Park!

After having an alt go through the msq to reevaluate it is it an unpopular opinion to find Maehiro’s writing overhyped/overrated and that he’s not as good as everyone makes him out to be? Maybe I’m just disappointed because I liked HW when it came out and during my reevaluation tour it ended up not being as good as I remembered and his writing flaws stuck out a lot more due to lack of nostalgia goggles. Same with his writing on ARR.

Also decided to finally start EW after being dumb enough to let the community dictate if I should enjoy it or not and I’m genuinely impressed so far. It’s really good when you don’t have a bitch from the official forums and other circles of the XIV community screaming in your ear that it’s shitty. Especially the obsessive lorefags who have a certain crystal lady living rent free in their heads. The OF had a once active 900+ page thread dragging the msq over the coals and you’d think Ishikawa killed their family with the way some of them felt about the expansion pack. Cutting the community out of my life makes everything 110 percent better.
