Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Templar: "Temple Knight"
Paladin: "Paladin"
Sure it's holy magic but the class fantasy is honor/oath instead of being explicitly religion-bound.

There's a lot that they can do with the idea, but I think the fact that we've had the Myths of the Realm storyline already means that the opportunity is behind us.

obligatory shitpost (this is a DRK VFX mod with a namingway preset)

I stumbled into the VFX mods/alternate classes not long after I got back into the game.
Super interesting!!! I really like the WAR VFXs that really amp up the savage side of the class

I always find mods like this funny. For as many people who complain about the visual clutter in the game, you have people who design stuff like this that would create an even bigger flashbang onto your screen. Different strokes I guess.

I was always fond of the NIN tank that unintentionally became a thing in FFXI.

(Very very very basic bones explanation: NIN, when used as a subjob with WAR, basically made for an evasion tank that was reliant on an illusion ability that would basically just straight up 'eat' attacks. There was some actual skill to go with the job because you had to know when big attacks were coming so you could block them.)

I'd love to see an illusionist job that is basically a spellcasting tank that utilizes something like this. You're either diverting or avoiding attacks instead of just soaking them, etc.

It'll never happen in the current XIV paradigm, but it'd be something new/fun.

I'm a fan of that Holmgang mod tbh. Everything else is too busy

I really dig the extra effects of the gapclosers and the AoE's leaving a trail of shreds in the ground looks breddy gud to me

The chains overall is an aspect that should be shown off a bit more, IMO.

Why does this sound like dodge from Payday2? LMAO

Is the new chaotic raid the greatest thing since sliced bread or a shitshow that everyone should avoid?

What does "standard movement" mean in this context?
Standard or Legacy Movement. The mechanic with the tether debuffs is considerably easier to dodge if you're using Standard movement instead of Legacy since you can actually preposition instead of having to quickly adjust.
(It's a short line aoe that snapshots your position when it appears, you have less than a second to dodge it and it originates from where your position is so you have to move or get hit with a ton of damage, a stack of Damage Down, and a 5 second doom that needs to be esunaed.)

EDIT: This quote is taken straight from an Official Forums post about it.

A mechanic in Chaotic is much harder with legacy movement than standard

This post contains small mechanical spoilers for the first phase of the new chaotic raid, so please avoid reading it if that is something you don't want to see.

It is still the first day, so I may be misunderstanding the mechanic, but it feels like the Dark Hand Grasp mechanic is much more difficult with legacy movement than it would be with standard movement. This is not usually the case with movement-based mechanics, as far as I have ever noticed, so this is a little bit disappointing.

There are two versions of the mechanic, decided when she creates tethers to your character. If her palm is facing outwards while she is casting, you will spawn a damaging area behind your character when the countdown ends. If you get the version of the mechanic where her palm is facing upwards when she tethers to you, you will spawn a damaging area in the direction your character is looking when the countdown ends. Let's call the first version "forward" and the second version "backward".

It seems to me that the intended solution here is that, if you get the "forward" version of the mechanic, you should walk forwards continuously while the debuff is expiring. This means that whenever it goes off, you'll walk out of it. I believe that the intended solution for the "backward" version is just the reverse: walk backwards continuously while the debuff is expiring.

The problem is, with legacy movement it is not possible to walk backwards. Your character will always face in the direction that it is moving.

I think that the zone locks in briefly before the countdown actually expires. This means that with very careful timing I think it is possible to do the "backward" version with legacy movement. However I think that it is substantially more difficult than it would be with standard movement.

I do not know if it is possible to adjust this mechanic in a way that makes it more fair for players with different settings. I just wanted to give feedback that this feels unfair. I think the game normally does an excellent job with its mechanics of not making one or the other feel better or worse, so this is an unusual miss.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this, thank you

The new Chaotic looks neat but good luck trying to do it in PF with 23 other idiots.

We had it for a brief glorious moment when SMN pulling out Titan was the optimal tank for Ramuh.

And then no fun was allowed.

I'd love for there to be a Tank like that in FFXIV; I mean, we haven't had a new Tank since SHB, so I think a new one that does something different would be nice.

Seen enrage for the Chaotic, it's way harder than I was expecting. A fairly fast P1, and an extremely punishing P2 that's hard to recover if even a couple of people die. It's got stuff that would be hard with 8 people, so tripling that increases the chance for traps, prog lairs and people just making mistakes. Makes it harder to tell who's doing stuff wrong too. It's pretty short, with only 2 phases and repeating phase 1 when 2 ends, which is a blessing because if there was another phase like P2 it would be impossible for PF. The rewards are good though so it should be worth farming/helping first timers clear.

I'm annoyed they locked cosmetic hair behind this as if the majority of people doing high end raiding like this care about anything in this game other than getting gear, clearing difficult content and fellating themselves over their logs. Yeah sure, let's pass up a clear to get fucking hair when I could just get a piece of savage gear instead. No one is going to go through doing this with 23 other people just for hair.
Now the only way anyone else can get it is either spending an absurd amount of gil at the MB or waiting for it to appear in a mogtome event.

i know that people like to shit on casuals for saying "why is this in savageeeeeeeee" but the Magitek Predator mount drops from Ala Mhigo and no-one complained about that

I have no problem with mounts and gear being locked behind savage.
But hair? That's foolish.
