Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

In OC there's like... the capitalist chelonian, who is admittedly kinda fun, and that's it. Your supporting characters stay in the camp for a bit to exposit in like two cutscenes then disappear back into the phantom village. All the fights are just random monsters, none of them are connected in any way, etc.
Trade Turtle is the best part of OC. Right when you might get something mildly interesting from the Tonberry it just.. stops. I haven't done FT but I don't think there's any story left afterward so I found it quite odd. Bozja and Zadnor's storyline made me really motivated to do them. FT just gets unlocked and.. yeah go there I guess. The monsters in there seem to be another random collection from older bosses in FFV. Shame.

I think story being a minor priority for the current dev team should have been obvious, and I am not surprised OC's story is kind of lackluster as well. It is funny how that starts exactly as DT did, with you going on a ship, having a little private instance where you can talk to the crew and then you arrive.

What are the chances that they will actually listen to the feedback and split (hah) current Forked Tower into a easier version made for spontaneously forming pug groups that just drops a whole bunch of gold, and a harder version that can be accessed from the Phantom Village by premade groups?

I'm curious if BU3 is in like a sort of endless crunch cycle where they're behind on everything and are trying to keep up, so the bare minimum to meet the board's expectations (or whatever) is causing problems to seep in.
Community copium is that staff are being poached to work on the next mainline FF title and all the newbies are being left to work on 14 which is why everything is so bare bones. I suspect SE is just raiding BU3 for cash and staff in order to prop up BU1 in order to just get shit done and out the door quicker, after all how long has KH4 been in development for now?

Slim, 14's main issue is that it's a slave to it's development cycle. Any reaction to the 7.2 patch content would be addressed in 7.5 at the earliest. Patch 7.3 would be mostly done outside of testing and last minute adjustments, 7.4 would be in development and 7.5 in pre-production, with a chunk of the team working on 8.0 in the background. Slotting in a change like that would cause a distruption to their precious timeline so they'll avoid doing it at all costs.

What I think is telling is that both JP and NA were reaaaaaally unhappy with Dawntrail's story and since the devs generally only give a shit about JP opinions, and the higher-ups at SE only care about $$$, we're probably going to see some adjustments next expansion.
I would hope that is the case, however I don't know if this will actually happen. It really depends on what they do with the writing team and since there are no real rumours about a change, I doubt that anything will really have changed. Due to the fact that probably a significant part of the story of 8.0 will already have been written, I am unsure whether there will be any real change.

Personally, I have just let my subscription run out. I never really was just an MSQ follower, I genuinely enjoyed a lot of side content (even though I never raided, I like to grind silly little achievements while listening to audiobooks and MMOs are perfect for that compared to many other games) but the just terrible writing of DT sucked all my motivation to do anything in the game. I have tried multiple times during the time since finally finishing DT earlier this year (it took me months to go through it with a lot of breaks for older side content) but whenever I logged in I no longer felt like actually playing a lot or trying to do something new. Last time I tried to get in OC or the Moon exploration but as I thought I would need to at least finish the patches I tried to start with 7.1 and I just could not get myself to play through it and logged of within half an hour. I will now look and see if the new patches become significantly better, when we will actually leave Turiyolah, so that I am no longer reminded of DT whenever I play. I might come back then but I am quite unsure of that now, maybe if the new expansion is much better ... The issue with assessing this will be that by that might many of the more critical players will likely have left, while the ones who like DT and its writing, or the ones who think Yoshi-pee cannot do anything wrong, will be the only ones left so it will be difficult to say if the writing will actually be better. I don't even need it to be very good, hell most of the MSQ is cliche-ridden and clunkily written but at least make it have some enjoyment in it, some form of actual soul.

Finally done with the Tower. Even did it on the day where no plugins work. Man it's such a fun fight. Almost makes those hours wasted instance progging worth it... Almost...

The stupid box mount is funny. I'll probably try clearing a few more times if I can find more reclear / a2c groups.

But as I said before; Zoraal Ja's entire motivation revolves around his relationship with his father, but the two of them don't get *a single scene* to see their relationship in person until he decides to kill him.
I always joke during the trial fight that during ZJ’s hallucination that he doesn’t even bother dreaming up the other father being alive. Just could not be bothered to hallucinate half the unit that gave him his apparent complexes.

I have been away for over 6 months and just now I got the "sub or lose the house" email.

Quite the effective tool, as I was pretty much happy with having let go and now I'm having second thoughts.

The new weapon zone sounds like yet another FATE grind or is there more to it?

Baffling disappointment at how such an easy layup was flubbed and a creeping realization that the team doesn't have the ability to course-correct.

Apparently, they're dedicating something like half of their next live-letter to addressing concerns about how badly Cosmic Exporation and OC have been received?
Which is to say, JP also hasn't been a huge fan - which is always just enough to move the needle.

Where have you heard that, re: LL?

I think BU3 just took on too many projects in the hope of not just being the FFXIV team.

I don't think it's copium when a number of a number of XIV staff were pulling double duty for XVI - corresponding with a sharp downward spike in FFXIV quality (Dawntrail). Just imagine a world where instead of Dawntrail having a terrible cat lady with a terrible tranny VA that we got someone like Clive voiced by Ben Starr instead as the main character.

I think that Yoshi-P thought he and his high level team could handle two projects at the same time (XIV and XVI) and clearly the answer was "no, not really". Yoshi-P probably had the clout to get SQNX corporate to agree but who knows if they liked the outcome, but generally it feels like the players mostly didn't. (although at least XVI was complete unlike XV and didn't take 10 years like everything else SQNX does). I don't think that XVI was memorable in way that most other final fantasies are and for me it felt like because it wasn't that fun to play or very interesting.

That's something that Soken said in an interview: "I would be very honest in saying that I never want to do anything like that again. Every day was a really horrible hell – really something beyond your imagination of hell. But there is a reason why I was able to achieve it." He also flat out rejected the idea of doing XVII's music while still working on XIV.

Keep in mind this is just composing music; imagine having to stretching yourself to work proper on characters, settings and stories between XIV and XVI.

So apparently I didn't have Titan's mount. Found out when I decided to randomly do the Primal Weapon quest. Now to get off my ass and get the other Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker EX mounts

Playerscope is shutting down development, claims C&D letter from SE is the cause.
People will just create their own forks of it and host their own databases, but I don't think any will be as big as the original one. Personally I don't really care if the plugin exists or not since I don't have alt characters that I care to keep separate, but it is funny reading the plugin users complain about it being shut down.

In terms of installbase? Probably not, but I really have to imagine the details were stored in very simple data structures that anyone could use and access. The actual process itself seemed laughably simple. A smaller install base means that the database grows more slowly, but anyone who was already flagged would still have their shit largely known about.

For what it's worth, sending a C&D costs Square almost nothing, since those are basically threats to do something without actually doing it. Hiring a competent cryptologist to fix their easily-solved hash-cypher would cost them a bit more. The process of designing a tool like this is pretty straightforward, and so long as anyone ever made an image/copy of the database as-it-existed, they can carry on as if nothing ever happened.

Tari is gonna be losing his tranny mind at this. Watch him sperg out on reddit or whatever shithole on the internet he frequents.
I'm only back here because I was going to post this in the XIV Community thread, but Baguette Child beat me to it. I thought I was banned based on the message box not showing up correctly and a modmail of a janny being MATI.
