Last time I was doing Expert Deliveries for GC seals, my chatbox ended up spammed with entire log window-filling advertisements back to back, and someone else suggested in shout chat to report the offending parties for RMT. I figured it made sense, since some of these groups are, in some respects with their "pricing plans", tangentially connected to RMT gil trading, so I've adopted that advice for the time being until someone in an official capacity says to stop.

What I've noticed these people tend to do is make a round trip to every single aetheryte in the game, spam their ad macro, and then fuck off to other servers to do it all over again. I'm betting they're getting even more mileage out of it now that DC travel is a thing.

There's an annoying mentor on a server's NN that I lurk on who talks about ERP shit nonstop and 'educates' Sprouts about RP and venues.

Apparently venues will pay 'promoters' to go and just spam at hubs with that annoying as fuck venue spam.

I'm in agreement that this shit is getting ridiculous. I've taken to hanging out in Doma when I can for handling retainer shit but even there it's starting to crop up.

Listen, you don't have to repeat yourself. "Mentor" explains their tolerability well enough as it is.

I just hang out in my housing ward/in my house because wards are seemingly the one place these people won't advertise in. It's marginally more convenient to just aetheryte hop and spam a chat macro. Although, technically speaking, I thought spamming chat macros was also in violation of ToS at that.

I think they are. I've seen more people get outspoken about the advertising spam over time.

Setting a tab in your chat that has shout chat turned off works really great. You can customize it so that only what chats you want appear in it like FC chat or a linkshell chat. I switch to that tab when I'm in areas more prone to having shout promotions. Now that I'm in Maduin, it's less prominent but if you don't want to move or can't, it's a useful thing to have.

I enjoy that these are the same types that will get up in arms over cultural appropriation, but feel empowered to dictate how a dev in another country, with a completely different worldview, should think and how Western standards of inclusivity/diversity need to be adhered to.

I will continue to appreciate Japanese devs who will just make games and do what they want because it's fun.

I moved to Dynamis from Crystal and the skeevy ERP club ads have pretty much disappeared. If they do show up it's usually someone from Crystal visiting to annoy everyone just trying to mess with retainers or craft. Hell I have barely even seen the typical Limsa whores. Unfortunately these coomers have ramped up their promotions to the point no map is safe, and I'm 99.99% certain they macro jump aetherites and spew their garbage upon every chat on every map now.

I've seen people promote their cringe shit in open maps, mare lamentorum, ultima thule (particularly after the omicron quests were released), etc.

I'm at the point that, as someone else mentioned, I report them for RMT, there's enough of a precedent of venue owners selling their collected gil that it's going to be correct more often than not.

I deleted my social media since then, and really regret introducing her to FF14. She recently left her FC and wouldn't tell me why. The fc leader, who I think is a major faggot, said she was "disgusting". Turns out, her and her current boyfriend (who was well liked with that old FC) decided to have a poly relationship with two of their new fc's members. They moved in together in real life, and swapped boyfriends. The dude she was originally with got the shit end of the deal, since the girl he swapped for my personal lolcow is morbidly obese (4XL), while the new guy is somewhat normal looking and skinny. Dude was a virgin until recently, and she is his first girlfriend, so I think he only agreed to a polymerous relationship for that reason. I lost all respect for her and will no longer associate, really fucked up thing to do, even if he is ok with it.

I suspected she would of done something. In her last relationship she mentioned the idea of having an open relationship with her then boyfriend. She previously came from WoW and knew some folks in her guild that are supposedly having a successful poly relationship. I told her to not do that because 99.999% of people cannot handle it. So she never did. However, with this recent guy she met in FF14, she obviously wears the pants 100%. Not long after dating this new guy she admitted to me about how dissatisfied she was with the relationship. I told her to give the guy some time and some other advice. He never had a real girlfriend and around 30 years old, so it's an adjustment for him. After she admitted this to me she tried to hit on me in her weird autistic way, which I shot down. I should of ended communication right there, and in a way did since after that I talked to her far less, but this is a new low. I feel like she will wind up leaving this dude entirely, since I know her ex and he told me she did similar shit in WoW, except she hid it from him cause he didn't tolerate it. He also told me that not even a week after the new guy moved in with her, she told her son to call him Dad, and they tried to get him into FF14. I feel so bad for the lad since he is like family and going down a dark path.

It makes me wonder how common crap like this is in FF14 and in MMOs in general, since I seem to hear similar stories fairly regularly. What is it about MMOs and ESPECIALLY FF14 that bring these people in like flies on shit, especially of late? An old vet of the game told me that it wasn't until Shadowbringers it got bad. If you want to do ERP, can't you play something like Second Life or VR Chat since shit like that caters to these "people"? There has to be better alternatives for them. I just don't want to play with blatantly obvious wierdos and degenerates.

That old vet must have kept themselves sheltered, because I'm also a 2.0 old guard and I can guarantee you things were always this bad. It did happen to get more widespread over time with the more people who kept coming to the game, though.
