Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

I get that Wuk had larger problems beyond the EN VA, but i will chuckle a bit if Wuk joins for the long term but Sena doesnt get the chance to
She and her brother are already set up to be left in the non-voiced appearances club the moment this arc is finished. If they do continue using her its born purely of spite.

Wouldnt surprise me if Wuk joins the main party to journey with them to learn about other countries. Also it would make a party "diverse" because excluding the WoL race, there isnt a female hrothgar in the party. Still pretty fucking dumb if they decide to do that.

We don't have permanent party members though. Just random people popping in after being away for several patches with no real sense of continuity. Can't have too many "former" scions congregating after they saved all of existence just a few months back.

Outside of Wuk (who is terrible) - but most of the characters are terrible. Krile just kind of shows up, Erenville is horrendous, Koana and Zoral Ja are terrible. The pile of Sphenes are terrible, every Alexandrian is horrible. The discount train people are awful, the shitty western set piece is awful, and so on. The small child character is beyond the worst as well.

The only bright spots are some of the WWE folks in the 8 man raid series, Gulool Ja Ja (dies), and Bakul Ja Ja who is fun.

Wuk is horrible, but it's not like Dawntrail is brimming with good characters and I really can't wait for 7.4 or whenever they get relegated to "check in with them for a non-voiced cutscene every 4 years" status like Ishgard.

Thinking about it - I know they never would but having an Endwalker -> Dawntrail timeskip would have helped a whole bunch with the "former" scions feeling like distant friends if a few years went by where nothing bad happened and the WoL kind of retired for a few years.

what would be the worst idea for a new expansion?
Maybe they're desperate enough to go back to first to try and "capture the magic" of shadowbringer again and just have a bunch of REMEMBER THIS!!! moments

I think this is part of why the brief moments early on where Thancred and Urianger are on an opposite side from us felt so mishandled. I went straight from EW where we literally were fighting the end of the world alongside these people to suddenly they're willing to fight against me over some minor country's rite of succession?

A plotline where the scions wind up on different sides of an issue could be really cool if done right. This was not done right. We needed a longer period of time to pass before setting these characters against one another makes any amount of sense.

This shit plagues modern vidya and movies so hard.
The people who initially made a story good are long gone. Now it's just suits sending tightly controlled, inexperienced staff to try and emulate it.

I mean, the Scions are kind of missing the happy-go-lucky frontliner character in their roster, but I don't think they would make Wuk a permanent party member, the reception was too poor.

I was happy to read the next trial will have trusts right out of the gate, because that could mean they would finally do something about the dumb Azem power of calling 7 other WoLs at will.. but then I remember that that is a very prominent power on display in the Arcadion raid, so it will probably be only temporary disabled. Possibly by Calyx stealing the crystal because it is needed with the chalice to hop dimensions or something like that.

I'd rather see Bakool Ja ja join the "scions" (yeah I know is never happening).
For 7.3 am most interested about the alliance raid and the main story, sure people despise it but 7.2' quests were interesting.
I feel like SE fumbling the occult crescent and forked tower was the last straw for a lot of people who were still willing to give 7.x patches a try.

That has been the entirety of Dawntrail. Sometimes references or things from other games are there, but show up just as a boss or some such. Never seen them hamfist so many "haha remember this?" "Isn't this just like that thing you remember?" as I have from Dawntrail and how they decided to do their FF9 references. (TO be fair, it was also egregious in Endwalker. The entire World of Darkness ark was a literal 1:1 repeat of a previous game. They have been banking on this for a long time already)

I am a FF9 enjoyer, obviously. But Dawntrail has made me embarrassed to suggest it to friends.

Personally the game for me ended in Endwalker and i would have been happy. Instead we got Dawntrail Mexico simulator. I feel FF14 has already reached the "keep the story going" trait.

Recently i got the sub again to play witha friend the new alliance and play with a friend that got into the free trial. Mightas well keep leveling Scholar and Miner while im at it.

My paranoid/delusional theory is that they're trying to set up the Scions 2.0 with characters like Zero, Sphene, Wuk Lamat, Erenville, etc. and a lot of Dawntrail is meant to go "SEE HOW AWESOME THESE GUYS ARE AREN'T THEY AWESOME' to get people hyped up. All the talk about making this the setup for the next 10 years of stories makes sense if you think this is meant to be their big debut.

And I really have to wonder if people in decision-making positions legitimately thought that fans were going to love Wuk Lamat et al so much that this was the way to go.

"Somehow, Zenos returned." I know some folks are going to say 'fuck that, I'd love to have Zenos back' and, yeah, having a sociopath antagonist whose motives are pretty clear-cut would be a welcome change of pace from....whatever the fuck is going on right now, but retreads are always a bad idea, retreads with a character (and potentially nation) whom the writers are sick of are bad, and introducing more cosmic nonsense would also be bad.

If we're looking at a 'fresh' story, doing a Meracydia expansion that treats that continent like Tural would probably be the worst because it basically uses up the rest of the 'known' world in huge swathes. Bonus points if it results in a panic move in them using FF7, FF8 or FFX as the 'homage' FF like they did with FF4 in Endwalker or FF9 in Dawntrail and we end up with Sephiroth playing a role similar to Golbez.

Oh, also, no new jobs because the systems team was busy doing a full top-to-bottom job rework

People shit on RLM, but one point Mike Stoklasa raised in one of the Star Trek reviews is how risk averse basically any big company is. You're dealing with companies that are dealing with millions of billions of dollars for projects and are answerable to shareholders or other corporate interests so not doing anything risky means sticking to safe formulas.

This immediately led to a cut showing the box office returns adjusted for inflation of all the Star Trek movies and how the one weird movie that did take a risk (time travel and saving the whales) was the #1 Trek movie.

Fucking sucks, but this is the world we live in. Hooray.

They still got a few Ascians on ice in case they need to reach for that nostalgia. That would absolutely the be the worst misstep they could take, but Square isn't exactly well known for good decisions of late.

They were barely against us unless knocking down some rocks counts as a major betrayal. I wanted to see more competition.

Both Wuk or Bakool joining the Scions would be terrible, the Scions (before Estinien got dumped in for fanservice) are at their best when they're a bunch of wizards and diplomats who solve things that the WoL can't solve through brute force, with Thancred as the one dude on hand for espionage and practical shit.
I want to say Bakool Ja Ja would at least be funnier, but seeing how they wrote him in the 7.1 Alliance Raid where they made him a pointless foil character with almost no personality I don't think that's true either.

I might resub for 7.4 because I liked the previous Variant dungeons and I'm genuinely a little interested to see what the new Quantum Trial thing is like.

Koji was busy with localization for FFXVI after Shadowbringers, right? Because I remember the jarring shift from shadowbringers to Endwalker when it comes to the characters and how cardboard-like they started feeling. It only got worse when Ishikawa took a backseat after Endwalker.
