Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Failing that, they should be forced to play Dawntrail twice without the option of skipping cutscenes.
I agree with you in spirit, but don't you think this part is a bit much? We should be reserving that level of torture for like... war criminals and people who say 'meowdy' in party chat every dungeon.

I honestly think it's too light of a punishment. If it were me, I would also add that they have to play while having to listen to Sena Breyer's voice raw

The fflogs maintainer doesn't want to keep working on it because the 2min raid buff synergy is going away it might actually happen.
What genuinely killed fflogs for me as an "improvement tool" and made the maintainer absolutely despicable in my mind, is the fact that they never added a metric for 'potency dealt' as far as I am aware. It is always this dickmeasurement contest, where someone who is new and might barely cobble some crafted gear together gets thrown into the same ranking as someone with BiS gear. If you could remove all that and just look at it like "Hey your gear needs work but your potency dealt is within 80% of mathematical perfection" it would be a lot cleaner imo. But for some reason this was always too hard to implement.

There was another tool XIVAnalysis, it took fflog links and broke it down into 'you should have pushed x, y and z during this burst, you hit 4 out of 5 fell cleaves under pot' etc and it was actually useful. It obviously has caveats like 'tool cannot determine when during a fight downtime is automatically so it might yell at you for just standing around doing nothing' or some shit.

It doesn't change that the worst types were already in the game, but I'll bite.

What makes WoW players so horrible?
I would argue it isn't WoW player's faults, but just that WoW is a different game.

WoW is a game largely based around speed and efficiency. Everything is ephemeral and the whole game centers around getting the the endgame (whichever version of it you want) as fast as humanly possible.

You don't do a zone, or an expansion, or a questline in it's entirety. You do it until it's underneath your level and drop it. You get a bunch of gear that just lets better gear drop and repeat. You do (sometimes) content you don't want to do because the rewards can be used in your preferred path. Other players can boost you in raids, in PVP, dungeons, and so on. There is a throughline of "the more time you spend, the more you can get rewarded". There are some upper limits (and they're working on the grind in parts) but it's been a game you can put time into if you need to.

FFXIV, while ostensibly a MMO, is not a game meant to be rushed through. The raid gear isn't great, the PVP rewards aren't great (and the PVP isn't great) the actual "meat" is in the journey, even if it drags at times, rather then the destination. It's very common to get to the "end" of FFXIV and then just stop for a while (usually two patches for raidtrannies). FFXIV has no fancy weapons or trinkets, no talent trees or special borrowed power - and even the materia is insanely boring.

They aren't the same game - and while some people can cross over (More Social WoW players might like FFXIV's community activities, more serious FFXIV players might like WoW's raiding cadence and accountability tools) - they just aren't the same game. Not every Street Fighter player will like Tekken (and Vice Versa) - not every Armored Core player likes Mechwarrior, not every XCOM player likes Xenonauts, and so on.

It was funny when the FFXIV devs smacked straight into this approach during the release of the first incarnation of the Diadem in 3.0, where they made a zone that focuses on exploration and it collapsed the second the EN raiders discovered the most efficient route to grind the content. (Dino Island)

People ask why there's no content shared between DoW/DoM and DoL/DoH and that's pretty much why. The raiders were pissed that gatherers were occupying "their" zone, making their grind harder and the gatherers were pissed because the raiders started griefing them by leading mobs to attack them. (This was before the changes were gatherers were invisible to mobs)

All the end game shit, all the hoops you gotta jump through to get a group is annoying for me personally since i have limited time and cant dedicate hours to be on a discord or argue with trannies. Imagine having to make the equivalent of a fucking resume to have the chance to get a group to try and do X content. I pray that they take away the 2min buff bullshit and that the parcers or ffloggers whatever the fuck they are, can just fuck off and allow me to press buttons in peace.

I feel like DPS checks have just gotten much stricter. I remember raiding in Shadowbringers and while we'd still have to put in the work to prog, you were still likely to clear even with a couple of deaths.

Ever since EW, it feels like a single death is enough to just wall and reset the fight because if you're not getting at least 90% of the potential value out of your burst, then it's just not happening. It makes clutch wins much rarer and also completely kills motivation to try and carry new players through content since you can't really compensate for them.

Noooooooo. I just finished the new patch story.
Fuck.

There is yet ANOTHER apocalyptic event that is going to occur that we have to stop.

Creation is going through a phenomena where the absence of both Hydaelyn and Zodiark is causing creation to reset itself via natural causes. Since Hydaelyn was the one who split the worlds and basically maintained that split, her death is now causing the reflections to naturally rejoin themselves to the source, like the source is acting like a magnet to call them back. The source is naturally yearning to be made whole and it's going to force all the remaining reflections to join with itself. When that happens, every single calamity imaginable will befall the source at once, not only killing the trillions of lives on all the remaining reflections, but also killing everyone on the source as well. World then resets itself to before it was split, to basically a prehistoric period before the advent of mankind. Basically like what happened to the dinosaurs. Halmarut calls the impeding apocalypse the Solstice. A complete and utter reset to creation. An inverted big bang where instead of a massive explosion outward, everything gets condensed together.

Halmarut and Calyx are part of a group called the Winterers made up of individuals from other reflections who each have their own plan of what to do with their respective reflection. Halmarut is the presumed leader and her goal is basically the same as it always has been for the ascians, to rejoin the shards. Her reasoning is that rejoining the shards the way the ascians intended will at least save some people, as opposed to not doing anything and just letting everyone die, including the people on the source. So to that end, she's recruited particularly ambitous people from the other shards, shared to them knowledge of summoning, the reflections, their connection and the oncoming apocalypse and told them to do whatever they thought was necessary to make her plan a reality.

So now our current goal is to figure out how to stop this incoming apocalypse without letting trillions of people die. To somehow unite the shards without dooming the people on them. Probably via a connection between all the worlds where it can remain stable, existing in synergy whilst keeping them all separate.

Calyx revealed to us personally that he and Halmarut are going to the Fourth in order to observe one of their Winterer colleagues enact their plan for that shard. He also reveals that while they are all part of the same organization and shared information with each other, not all of them agree with each other and have conflicting beliefs. Calyx tells us all of this because he thinks we have no way to follow him, unaware that hours ago, we just discovered a new way to travel between shards using the key. Before leaving, he spitefully tells us that our altruism to try and save everyone will mean nothing when everyone is dead.

Damn, so much for taking a vacation and going toward more subdued stories.

By the way, Calyx is absolutely cucked in this story.

We beat him so badly and crushed his hope into such finely ground dust that he has no desire to try anything again and has basically resigned himself to being Halmarut's personal stuffed animal/plaything.

The absolutely tragic thing is that they will learn the entirely wrong lesson from this. Instead of "Dawntrail had weak writing and wasn't really grounded in anything due to the absence of any world building" they have learned: "People really don't care for low stakes adventures and absolutely need to have the end of the universe to deal with".

I'm getting tired of it. We can only save the universe so many times before it starts becoming absolutely ridiculous. I'm all for traveling to different reflections to solve their issues. But I was hoping for something more along the lines of helping other reflections with their own grounded issues not you know...saving the universe a 3rd time in a row. How many more apocalypses can the dev team cook up before they finally stop? It doesn't need to be universe ending stakes all the time.

I think you're right in that they took the wrong lesson from the criticisms of Dawntrail. No one had a problem with the low stakes story, they had a problem with the writing and pacing. Now they've got it in their heads that the players don't care unless we're saving the universe every single time when that's not true.

I'm kinda mixed on the whole Solstice thing. On one hand it is fantastic that they addressed something that was bugging me during Endwalker (Hydalyn's death and thus the end of her Sundering magicks). On the other I agree that it feels lazy that we are doing ANOTHER multiversal threat and that it is just the Rejoining with a more 'benevolent' slant.

Only thing I'm really 'uuuugghhhhh' about is them referencing Zenos and having his scythe show up. I'm hoping it was just a callback and not an indication that they are doing something with him again, be it him somehow surviving and ending up on another Shard or having his body getting jacked by another Ascian that we will have to fight. Just...just let the man get some rest, CB3. He's tired and I don't want to have to teach him another lesson.

We are basically back to ARR: Scions are back united in the Rising Stones, a mysterious organization (lead by an Ascian) is threatening to end all life and we will fight back with all we got.
Difference is that this time around everyone around is a distinguished hero, there is no guesswork as to what said organization wants and their leader is an Aura girl with sad puppy eyes.

Basically, they have set up unlimited shard adventures from here on out.

as it fucking should have been after endwalker.

I would not be surprised that Louisoix in this shard is the main enemy and its going to be a reverse ARR where you play the good "Ascians"

It would be nice as well that after endwalker you can just select which expac or "Shard" you will play through.
