What’s funny about this is that I remember a video that talked about this subject, and ironically enough, it was made by a former Newgrounds user:


I don’t think we’ve gotten to the point that being called a gamer is an unpopular opinion, but I do believe that today’s gamer is not even gaming anymore. Instead, they’re talking about gaming by being a journalist/commentary channel about it.

Random matchmaking and we noticed how often we end up in matches together or against.

You sorta talk about what you're doing in live and well since they're not gay or american i ended up joking about an ingame model looking quite manly for a girl.

I was considering it, War of Rights, or Battle Cry of Freedom. Battle Cry of Freedom is Civil War Holdfast but is said to be dead. War of Rights looks a lot better/more serious, but the devs are too lazy to implement basic things like cavalry after half a decade and clearly never will, and Holdfast has the instruments.

I don't meet people in online lobbies, I prefer to only play with people I know IRL. Often preferring to actually play locally rather than online.

The exception is if I'm playing something like Tetris 99.

mostly from boomer MMOs like LOTRO or ESO and then it segues from there when you play something else with them. or outright niche stuff where the playerbase is so low all the FOTM popularity chasers have fucked off and you're left with people who really like the game (would say anthem or battleborn but both those games are literally and figuratively dead). of course statistically you'll always run into a dipshit at some point, that's just how it is.

the biggest issue usually is finding the right people in the first place, and nothing having any "community" anymore besides some groomer discord shit it doesn't get easier, hence stuff like MMOs. although that's understandably not a process most people just want to go through for some spontaneous shenanigans.

I should add that's from a yuropoor perspective, even when it comes to /vg/ games EU was usually chill because there are people from all over, US is mostly burgers and beaners with their own retarded drama (but even the STO guys were pretty based, which was global I think).

I met some people when I used to play Destiny 2 (awful I know), doing LFG for raids. I think most people doing that are pretty guarded since they are worried about the fags that infest the game, but all you have to do is drop edgier and edgier stuff throughout the 2 hour raid and see how they react. I met some pretty funny normal people doing that. A lot of the normal people are still around, they just try and stay under the radar.

I've also met some people just from playing Quake Live, dedicated servers with no matchmaking, the population is pretty low so people are really chill in game since they just want someone to play against. The game being Quake 3 also keeps a lot of the undesirables out, but you have to be a little bit decent at the game.

I used to go a lot to videogame specific forums, like the MGS one, but I find that most are very much dead and seem to have moved to discord and similar stuff, tbh, I use discord but I usually just stay on very very small servers, like not even 10 people active at once.

Can you define decent? I used to be good as a casual player back in the day but these days I'm too old for the type of autism quake fans have now. Bunny hopping wasn't that common in pub servers and most doing it were considered cheaters when I played FPS a lot. Now it seems the defacto movement and not a lot of fun to me.

I don't know if the Zoomers have infested Quake like they have Doom, but being able to beat at least some of the mid tier bots is good enough. Avoid regular deathmatch since anyone who knows the map can utterly dominate even with poor accuracy. I recommend something that spawns you with all weapons and if pickups are on, instant respawn or something. Clan Arena is fun, even spawns, no map control. Instagib is fun but someone with good accuracy can wipe the floor.

CTF is and will always be the best game mode.

I hate this Discord shit so much, the game has an in-game chat function for a reason and it effects the gameplay when it includes things like local chat specifically. If you use outside chat in a game with local you're even a cheater.
