Having a guy who potentially creeped/creeps on young girls is a hard no for MDE. I think the reason Fishtank went relatively smoothly and unmolested by mainstream media is because the contestants were all milquetoast Zoomers who weren't heiling or saying the 14 words every second like a retarded vocal portion of the audience wanted. If they didn't kick Simmons out quick there's a nonzero chance another Bernstein situation could have happened and Fishtank wouldn't have a site host at all because Sam is "working with a pedophile". They need to ride the fine line of not being boring, but also being able to keep a presence on the Internet outside of Gumroad and YouTube
Although Sam did say nigger at least twice on camera so maybe all the scrutiny from the past is behind them. I don't blame them for being cautious though

I kinda agree with @Heather Mason, I don't think they could have trickled it on very long without bearing some responsibility. And the "xjao ling ching wa bing Translation: I'm kicking you off the show" line was great.
However, I think the little pageant they did before probably could have run longer and I'm pretty sure they were just panicked about getting it done during peak hours.
But they were a cat with a mouse, I think they could've had a lot of preamble, like Okay Simmons we're going to do a tai chi challenge later so I need you teach everyone tai chi and really tell them off if they're not listening to you, wow that was great the viewers loved that I think he might be more popular than josie now, okay out of nowhere let's do an elimination vote, simmons lost, that's okay the viewers vetoed it he's staying lol, i want to get with each of you one-on-one before Sam gets here, okay why did you vote for Simmons the viewers love him... okay well sam will be here in 30 minutes so let's see what he has to say about all of you voting fan-favorite Simmons off the show...
I honestly have no idea what you mean by this. Any original idea that the fish had for what to do that the producers didn't tell them to do is unprompted. If you mean natural vs unnatural behavior, obviously everyone was acting somewhat unnaturally on camera. But literally everything that anyone did that they weren't told to do by the producers was unprompted, and only Josie and Mauro would decide to do literally nothing when the producers weren't there to kick their asses into motion. The shit she did that her fans think qualifies as content, to compare to Jon talking about grinding up children into nuggets, is like, cleaning, swaying, raising her arms up, going up and down stairs... that's not a show it's a retard fetish.
I also think you're not describing what went on with Letty fairly, it was a two-way street with Letty pitching ideas, and as Sam put it succintly, he "couldn't bounce bits off of [Josie.]"
I think it's absurd to say that her "truly independent moments" of playing for hours with baby toys in her room is worth comparing to what the other fish would come up with without being told to. Is there a 3-part-must-watch video of Josie playing with a silicone burger? Obviously a sizeable portion of viewers enjoyed it but to me they were not watching Fishtank.live to be entertained, they were there to feel like they had a girlfriend or something.

No external push to do something. Vance, Sylvia, Mauro and Damiel would do nothing all day unless something spurred them on, often TTS.
She didn't talk much in common areas outside of challenges which is what you described there. I think a big part of the appeal was having ongoing conversations with TTS pretty much anytime she was alone. Around others she'd normally be curt but often look at the camera and acknowledge them directly, almost never ignored. A fish that reacts when you poke the glass, basically.
Unlike Jon she'd actually go in on any challenges which mattered more than being a chaotic element day to day.
We'll never know the extent but I assume it went on for over half of the show once they realized Letty was good for it. I'm including implicit coercion and explicit planning.
I think Letty came up with entertaining things on her own but it's hard to say what was seeded and what was totally independent. Josie was ol' reliable since she'd try to entertain herself, talk with TTS the most and share her take on whatever was going on. Simple stuff like "the storm is coming" and her figuring out what that meant or using TTS to help brainstorm was good. When she had to be involved she would be.
Watching people talk in the kitchen was often dull. Fatty would make it obnoxious.
Can't speak to any compilations since I never watched much Fishtank stuff on Youtube. Coddling her was certainly very lame and she deserved more heat, even she acknowledged the coddling during and after the show.

agreed. i don't really follow fishtank too much unless it's regarding season 2 or the occasional thread check i'll do. regardless of how you feel about jon, i think he's genuinely entertaining. watching the PKA podcast with him was funny because jon is the saying "light's on, but no one's home". i really liked seeing taylor throw some deep questions at jon and jon responding with "idk, i don't really think about it that much". like no shit, i don't think you think about anything.
sylvia is too fat and unfunny for me. lanced fucked off to do video projects, vance is boring as shit. i don't personally watch letty but just looking at her channel, it seems like she's at least trying to be consistent. i wouldn't be surprised if everybody fucked off to go do their own thing in their personal lives. mauro is fat and gay. the only people i would be interested in following other than jon is probably damiel or simmons but damiel is a twitter meme fag.
that line made me laugh so hard when i watched it live, especially after the fact it was proven to actually be the chinese way to say "im kicking you off the show"

Agreed. It was hard to discuss the show in places at times because josiecels were shitting up the threads so much about every little thing she did. People seriously got obsessed with some retarded boring mexican who KINDA looks asian under the shit quality of the cameras. That being said, i'll give Josie credit in that she at least did try during the final challenge. When Josie tried, she could be entertaining but she literally never did unless she was absolutely forced to. She had practically no motivation to do anything to win outside of the final challenge.
Either way, I hope they choose contestants a bit better next time. Season 1 was definitely pretty lucky with Jon/Vance(when he wasn't yeahing)/Letty and most of the freeloaders they brought in.

Yeah, I literally saw a stream highlights video for Josie yesterday and it was literally just another minute of her making small motions and not actually doing anything.
And to be clear I don't think contestants need to really strategize to win the game, certainly trying to set other contestants against each other or make allies didn't seem to work as expected given the role TTS plays in the house and the total lack of control the fish have over what goes on. But all the good contestants were putting in visible effort to try and score points over one another when the producers weren't around. Like, Vance, Sylvia, and Letty all said at different times that they planned bits and lied or acted to get the audience interested in them and disinterested in the others. That's not a mark against them, that's good. "Authenticity" and "being yourself" aren't really things the show promotes and not something the audience wanted.
It actually sucks that they had to work so hard to get any attention away from someone who literally just sat around silently like a tumor sticking off of the kitchen island most of the day.
With Sylvia gone Vance definitely lost his engine and that's when everyone really started laying into him for being boring, but it really did also show how overhyped Josie was. They'd both be sitting on the couch in the exact same position looking like corpses but the chat was like JOSIE W JOSIE W JOSIE W JOSIE W
I'm legit worried about this, following their logic. Jet said they won't want anyone who's seen Fishtank, which means they probably won't pick up anyone who has seen Sam, which means there's a likelihood their cast is going to be made up of normies like Mauro. Which is dangerous, because the audience is going to expect the kind of bare-knuckle dialog they got in Season 1 ("the people who pay to see my pussy aren't freaks to me!!"/"great, another retarded bitch I have to deal with"/"are you jewish? are you jewish? are you jewish?"/"what's the deal with... these niggers?!") and the contestants are not going to be up for it and might even leave just hanging around Chris talking about porn for a couple hours.
I don't think it would be hard for them to get a cast of funny people but even Sylvia was a lucky cast since she survived day 19 when TTS started ripping her apart. I don't think you could find a fat chick off Craigslist who would put up with that, they need to come in expecting to hear some shit, and that's not going to be easy to do especially if they want the content of the show to come as a surprise.

She responded to TTS more than anyone, even at the kitchen island. When in the kitchen or living room she often did it nonverbally with a nod, thumbs up, look of disgust, etc. At least twice she went to the confessional to reply to a TTS instead of responding in the kitchen. I think this played a significant role in her popularity with TTS users and is a major part of her current appeal.
When TTS is on your side you have a huge advantage, she'd be filled in on important details when going to bed.

A great example of this is Vance literally spending 12 hours straight pretending to he schizophrenic in the disabilities challenge fully committed to the bit to the point where his own mother called and made sure he wasn't losing it and yet he still gets significantly less attention than Josie gets. If you go look at the clip channels from that time Josie sitting and being cute got more views then Vance putting his heart into a performance.

Yeah agreed. Obviously people gave Vance too much credit for it when evaluating his whole time in the tank but I wasn't even hooked on the show until I saw him during that challenge. Can't be hyperbolic, but gotta be honest.
If there was like a final measure for like, "best performance in a challenge" the nominees would be like, Schizo Vance, Letty during either Menace, Annoy Jason, or Shit Talk, Sylvia's "CHIS" painting (even though she admitted it was an accident people were laughing at it over and over for over a week), Vance & Lance in Drunk Piece of Shit, Chris during Grossest Thing, maybe Jon during the cooking challenge or the cell (even though he didn't win them) there's probably more...
And uh, idk. I can't think of any worthwhile entries from Josie, for some reason! Very weird!! That's going to come out strange in the documentary, when the winner talks to no one and thus features in no arcs, and is never very good at anything.

It was very clear that Simmons being kicked off the show was done in the heat of the moment rather than content reasons imo. I know we often joke in the thread about how Jet and the Wigger Crew literally don't plan anything in advance, which is absolutely true, but the Simmons elimination was one of the few moments in the show where Sam was involved in an event that wasn't fully planned out. Out of the dozens of events that happened on the show that were not well thought through and planned by the producers, I can only count on one hand the poorly thought through events that involved Sam, and the Simmons elimination was one of them.
That's not to say it wasn't justified. I'm sure they were worried about saving the show's reputation and not wanting to be associated with a potential pedo. But the short terms consequences were disastrous and it truly resulted in the end of the OG Fishtank era. The crew didn't inform anyone beforehand in the basement of what was about to happen, nor did they go into detail about the fish about the evidence surrounding the claims such as bad translation and money schemes. This resulted in many of the fish believing that they were with a genuine child sex offender who was ok with grooming.
After that happened Mauro left due to believing he was sleeping with a real pedo for the past nine days on the show. Jon had an autistic meltdown due to one of the few friends he had on the show being outed as a potential pedo. On top of this Sam seemingly tried to blend this reveal in with the baby shaking challenge. It was like he was simultaneously trying to make the situation seem serious while also trying to play it off for the lulz. This resulted in a lot of the fish freaking out. This could have been avoided by eliminating Simmons in a more subtle way or by at least informing the fish beforehand to prepare them mentally.
This post is long enough already, so I won't go into detail about how poorly the rest of the night transpired and the abysmal actions the crew did to make up for it. To make it brief, the fish were given a pizza party with lots of alcohol and the cameras were shut off for the rest of the night. This was after we knew that Jon didn't like to drink, and possibly after Josie revealed she was on the show to get off a minor alcohol addiction. Alcohol + scary experience = a lot of drinking. Although @Aidan will probably know more about Josie and her inner demons than me (btw glad this thread includes the only somewhat redeemable Josie fan). This was a recipe for disaster and all the cams were taken down.
To be honest, this was probably the first sign we had of the crew being terrible planners, we were just so blinded by the idea of losing our favorite live show that we didn't notice.
TLDR; Plan things through Jet, you absolute fucking retard.

Most internet celebrities they had on were pretty terrible. Emplemon was unfunny, that one dude who's friends with Sam and Jet did nothing but contribute to Letty dogpiling, Frank was fine I guess, but even he had to be put in place by Sam to actually target other contestants, and we all know how controversial Chris was. Stein was in my opinion the best one, but even he was just decent. The few decent freeloaders were largely nobodies, and I prefer it that way. It makes things unpredictable.
Either Leafy will be a decent gaslighter and fuck with the fish or he's going to be similar to Damiel but arguably even more annoying. I honestly believe there has yet to be a freeloader that falls above a "decent" rating. I'm going to guess Leafy would be a pretty bad freeloader, but that's just me. It takes a certain type of ego suspension in order to be loved on FT and be a good freeloader/plant. Basically you have to actually try to scheme and put your reputation on hold for the sake of entertaining. I do not think Leafy has this capability, just like Damiel didn't have it. Damiel thought being a dick while barely doing anything would've been enough, and he got btfo'd by a retard on day 3. He then got btfo'd by a frail woman the next time he returned.
The most beloved fish/freeloaders in this thread generally have some type of ego suspension. Pre elimination Jon was a retard who wasn't aware of his fame, his actions therefore lacked any sense of preconceived reputation to uphold. Letty was able to take a ton of shit while constantly putting her reputation on the line for the sake of entertainment. Stein always bounced off of any trash talk he had with Letty and didn't take the game seriously. The most hated fish always had some sense of ego and feelings of being better than everyone else. Vance believed he was an invincible big brain who was above the other fish, when in reality he was a hypocrite who refused to do anything of substance. Mauro and Sylvia freaked the fuck out at any conflict they faced instead of embracing it. Damiel was already discussed. Chris took the conflicts far too seriously and ended up hating some fish. Same with Betty.
In my opinion Leafy will fall into this latter group. He believes he has an aura around him and that he has to prove he's a cool edge lord who doesn't care about what people think. This will ultimately result in him being a bad freeloader. If he is on the show I can only hope he gets owned by a retard similarly to Damiel.
