Oh c’mon, the whole point of banning the phones was so they wouldn’t know what’s going on in the outside world. You give a contestant a phone and ofc they’re going to use it to look up every last detail of the show and play into the public’s perception of them.

I’d like to think the production team would know better than this, but based on how they’ve been handling the official cut of Fishtank (and subsequent critique of it), I’m not so sure…

Attempting to "gaslight" your audience that is already displeased with the official product you're releasing is a bold business strategy from Jet.

Jet probably thinks the project can't fail because morons already dumped so much into it and will dump even more so he doesn't care. Maybe he's right but you can only milk the same people so much before they run dry and then what? It's not like a lot of new people are interested, just look at the episode metrics.

Honestly, the best way to have a phone in the house would be to make it a landline and limit phone time to x mins per y days. Could even make it like an allowance where you can earn or lose time. A landline would also allow for production to listen in and end the phone call if the other person starts telling them too much. It essentially would allow the contestants to vent/be encouraged to stay longer.

Although I think Jet should just give them a leap pad or some shit to keep themselves entertained. Stuff that requires batteries so you can take it away if needed. The house needs more toys/activities to keep the contestants busy in between challenges. Self-led activities because otherwise, it'll be a repeat of season one where it was 50/50 the fish would do the challenge.

Not a bad idea. I said in the chat a while back that they should reward fish more based on challenges with things you usually wouldn’t bat an eye at outside of the tank, but in the tank they’re priceless. They kind of dropped the ball on that last season. The winners of the rice counting challenge (first challenge) got the following rewards. Fishbucks, chicken wings, and”the world’s sourest soda.” Imagine instead if they were given something that could help them in the future or future challenge.

Outside of fishbucks, there wasn’t a lot of rewards. Imagine how valuable something like a shitty iPod would be with three of your favorite songs, or the entertainment value of a gameboy in a house with very little entertainment. And like you said they could even use phone minutes as a reward as well. Maybe this season for the first few weeks they could focus on teams, and give winning teams larger rewards. Like team number one gets a Christmas dinner for winning while team number two gets nothing and has to go to bed early and vote on who the least valuable player was to get them eliminated or punished.

I'm not big on them calling home willy nilly, I think they let Jon call home two weeks in and it made him go insane, and all of them changed personalities pretty hard once they called home the first time. They'd end up saying, "Yeah I've been working with so-and-so" and Mom or Mary Jane would go "Ew, no!" and suddenly the whole dynamic is off.

Definitely like the idea of toys with batteries like Gameboys. Stuff like Pokemon is easy to get the audience involved in even if we can't see the screen.

Also, just give them something to work on in the absolute downtime other than cleaning and re-cleaning the house. I think a few of them said they kind of liked it when the trash would get dumped because it was just something to do, that's funny and all but it's not great. Something dumb that rotates every few days, like give them the New York Times Spelling Bee to work on together or Kinex or ingredients and a series of difficult, multi-hour recipes to cook for no reward or time pressure other than it results in something tasty.

I liked it when they gave Letty the pieces of wood to make a table, I know it was just to fuck with her but if they have hours and hours it would be sort of impressive if one of them actually managed to make something nice.

Agreed with @Lowercase I internet, imagine if the reward for a challenge during Season 1 was an oven glove. They didn't have oven gloves, so imagine just one person has access to The Oven Glove and nobody else is allowed to use it. It'd immediately become a detriment because everyone would go "Buddy can you come over here and take this out with Your Oven Glove?"

I had an idea a while ago about giving them an arcade cab in a place that has optimal view from the cams, but the twist with it is that to avoid any copyright claim shit and to mess with the heads of the fish all the games in it are either from those south american bootleg ports (think Donkey Kong running on Zaxxon hardware or those weird ports of Pac Man to the Galaxian board) or some of the most ridiculous japanese/hong kong games to be found in a mame set like that proto fighting game with the stop motion puppets that runs on mahjong hardware. It gives them something to do, gives audience interaction depending on how well the cam can see the screen and makes the fish question reality when they experience games like it's a shady bar in Taiwan in 1988.

To add to the torture, make it an antique dial phone instead of a push button, watch Zoomie frustration for hours of lulz.
Come to think about it, a house filled with antiquated and obsolete 20th Century technology and packed with Zoomers would make for a good reality television show.

There being more devices than batteries and not enough for everyone at the same time could be great. I can see the fish ending up stripping things like fire alarms and flashlights for batteries

edit: something kind of sweet I noticed. in the extra footage, sam tells Josie that the slavery challenge is the one Letty is most likely to lose, and that if she wants Letty out Josie should get her rubbing and bathing Chris. in the main episode we see Josie stop Letty just before she has to rub Chris’ feet and nearly starts crying. Josie basically chose her competitor right there

Implying that zoomers even know the phone numbers of their loved ones or friends.
I’m glad you get your opinions about how the younger generation acts from the 90s sitcoms you watched. Anyways it wouldn’t be a problem for the crew to obtain phone numbers for the contestants, a rotary phone or even a regular key pad phone would risk doxing the contestants family phone numbers anyways if it was in view of the camera.

Again why I feel like it could work well. I promise you people will write down the numbers which adds a layer of having to protect them and use them to make alliances or fuck with people.

I did forget about tts, but that's why I'd expect the producers to actively monitor the phones when on for a set time.

Retard. I get my "opinions" from real life experiences such as the undeniable fact that 98% of people don't memorize phone numbers anymore because of smart phones rendering that a pointless use of their brain. I don't care that you still remember your mommies phone number but zoomers don't know phone numbers. They just don't.

.
To be totally honest this shit just makes me feel uncomfortable
If Letty wasn't such a lazy lady she'd have set up some way to pay her by now especially when so many people watched these episodes and felt similarly. A penance for watching her suffering.

You're 6 years too late on that concept
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/90's_House they did a 70s, 40s, 10s, and 1880s version too.

I will say people forget how low-tech the 2000s were. giving them a nokia brick to use would be fun, especially when they figure out you can throw them at people. Also for the phone calls it would be pretty easy to set it up so they're recording the calls while the contestants make them. So they could use that for the episode releases or even release the phone calls to the rest of the house. Also the ps2 had a fuck load of bootlegs, so it would be neat to see them try and play one of those. Just in general there was tons of wacky pre-iphone/ipad toys they could fill the house up with.

How the fuck is Season 2 starting in 4 days? There's been like no promotion not even a real trailer just some nonsense. Jet maybe thought the way to handle this thing was strike while the iron is hot but less than a year apart for these things is madness. Fucker got greedy and wants another 10 thousand dollar watch

He was also just asking a few days ago what people would like to see in season 2. There's no plan and season 2 will be of a much lower quality than the first.

I’m not ready to say this yet. Season One was really slapdash and jet constantly asked for ideas, the show can be successful in spite of him (and very occasionally because of him)
