Aren't there free and open source alternatives? Would that be viable or are they full of flaws as well?

If they are streaming all those feeds independently that seems stupidly expensive. They should be streaming a single 4k feed and then breaking it up into smaller sections and isolating/up-scaling them via script.
 
I leave for one hour and the entire thing fucking crashes into the ground because Sam is illiterate? Truly a master at work.

Seriously, they could have cut on bandwidth in so many ways. When viewing all cams, you could compress the shit out of the quality and probably throw out 75% of the frames. Whoever is in charge of the tech is either or retard, or too intimidated by Sam to tell him shit like "we're going to exceed our web services cap soon" and "I'm too incompetent to figure out how to save you bandwidth and not fuck your hosting costs".

Will they tell the contestants why paypig TTS went quiet or will they leave them in the dark? I'm picturing him bringing the camera crew in and telling the fish that shit hit the fan all of a sudden.
