  • 1 Star — Absolute disaster. Unwatchable, boring, production fucked it up bad, the fish were lame

I'm mostly mentioning this to show that Sam didn't have to go with an expensive solution, there are custom ways to do this for much cheaper. Graf/Poast has a streaming platform on poast.tv that Null used for MATI (before getting defederated), plus some other small podcasts. He's been tweaking a custom CDN service for months, so it's credible estimate of what's possible.

Doing it without the chat is probably a deal breaker, chat has never worked on poast.tv beyond 50 users or so. Null could probably help there, but getting all 3 together is probably impossible at this point.

I work a long hard day(spending half my time on my phone shitposting here) and all I want to do is get home, tap on the fishtank and look at the bug eyed freaks spaz out.

To add to the restreaming slap fight, the people using mpv / vlc were saving him bandwidth vs the official site, since they weren't opening all the feeds at the same time like the jank website did. Ironically, if the site were designed better no one would have been using mpv / vlc in the first place.

I realize I'm being an out of touch idealist here but the ability to flip through the feeds at a moment's notice was incredibly cozy and part of the charm for me. Whole website was incredibly cool front-end-wise but back-end was definitely not thought through. This is coming from someone who never watches.

As people pointed out. If instead of the previews all just being live videos they could have just had it send out updated images at certain intervals and only activate the full video when you click on the stream.
