With a (questionable) W from James Drake, how would you rate season 5 of Fishtank?

I'm so happy this place is back. The level of detailed discussion about this stupid fucking show is amazing and I really missed it when the site was down.
 
Oh, I wanted to throw in thoughts since everyone pillories me for supporting Vance up until recently in the associated chat and I'm trying to decide how I feel on it.

Sam, Jet, and Fishtank itself seem to skid wildly back and forth on whether sabotage and underhanded tactics are rewarded. Sam has stated at times both that contestants should consider sabotage, and also punished those who managed to get away with sabotage without being caught by other contestants. Most challenges are rife with opportunities for sabotage and everyone contestant has at least suggested if not actually done a sabotage at some point. Sam and Jet constantly hand Letty weapons to encourage her to sabotage, also.

Watching Vance and Josie just refuse to dick each other down, therefore, was fucking ridiculous. It seems like it comes from Vance thinking that because he is in his "alliance" with Josie he won't fuck with her the way he has always been open to fucking with Letty, but when you are trying to get into the final fucking two, what difference do alliances make?

Like he had two options, especially as he was coming up on the end of his stamina - lose, or beat Josie. How is beating Josie immoral? What on Earth were alliances for if not to help you win?!

I wanted him to win, for the purely elemental reason that I cannot hear Josie when she is talking outside of B1, and I didn't want the final days of the show to be Jon and Chris shouting over a mumbler.

Instead of simply securing his spot, in a flurry of hypocrisy Vance is going to refuse to play to win on a challenge against his strongest opponent because he would "feel bad" and instead psychologically torture Letty into leaving. Ugh. I want nobody to win.

Real Sylvia? Maybe? Probably not?

This is why I want Letty to win. Every single fish has shown reluctance to sabotage each other. And that's honestly sweet, from a moral stand point. It's nice to see a bunch of people feel bad about making another person lose. It shows they aren't cold and cruel monsters that just want money.

But from a competition standpoint, it's fucking annoying. All of the fish should be able to put aside their feelings of discomfort and understand that they are competing with each other. Letty doesn't like fucking with other fish, but she still has the guts to go out and do what she can (even after being snitched on and punished for it) to win. Vance's initial strategy of trying to be on everyone's good side might have made sense at first, but as you said, in the final 3, it makes zero sense. Rather than winning immunity and being in the top two spot with 50/50 chance to win $35K, he now has a good chance of losing everything. He doesn't even have a lot of fishbucks, unlike Letty and Josie, so it makes his potential loss even more pointless.

I do blame Sam and Jet for this. The lack of clear rules and lack of fish bucks challenges really doesn't incentivize people to compete. That said, the more I see of Vance and Josie, the more I think it wouldn't have mattered much if things had been better thought out. Vance is too much of a coward to do anything directly, and Josie doesn't seem to do much unless instructed to do so.
 
Current objective breakdown of all remaining fish (and current freeloaders)
Letty: Still the real protagonist, a flawed person that nonetheless possesses unimaginable willpower
Vance: Still the real villain, a perfect foil to Letty, being a cowardly snake with no real backbone that buckles under the slightest amount of pressure from others
Josie: Secondary antagonistic force, constantly switches between acting as Vance's right hand and being his enemy
Jon: A fallen hero, turned to the dark side by Vance's manipulations
Chris: A force of chaos, let loose to wreak havoc upon all sides of the conflict

That's why reality shows cast people like Letty and not people like Vance or Josie. They don't do anything. I don't get people saying shit like, "But Josie is nice." I don't care about nice. I have friends IRL I don't need an eFriend simulator. I want to watch some phsycopaths get fucked with by Sam Hyde and fight each other.
 
Jet deciding to destroy the chat with @ replies lines up with his showrunning decisions, he definitely needs to charge a fee.

I feel like saying Letty should win requires caveats, I don't like her as a person and think going on this show was a terrible idea that she'll probably regret, but she's been actively trying to play the game despite there not being any actual game. I understand what Vance is doing but he should have figured out by now that the passive method won't work. Josie is a rock and deserves her fishbucks.

Josie can't be fucked with. She doesn't take anything personally and moves on like nothing happened, every single time. Letty does not. She doesn't clean up and decides to relish in the garbage to use it as fuel to get revenge and rope in someone else who wasn't involved in the original scheme to where it just becomes a clusterfuck of everyone who wants to scheme, ganging up on Letty for roping them in while she has fun throwing pee pee and poo poo everywhere.

I'm pretty sure that electric razor is in the house, if the other 2 fish want to go after Vance they need to attack his hair whether it be the fine delicate stubble struggling to grow back deciding to fall out making him balder or his beard, he really loves that beard.

She doesn't know how to clean and she sucks at it but she scrubbed her wall clean from Barcodes mustard and ketchup.
She is not responsible for the entire house and everyone kinda gave up because sharks would come in every 10 minutes to dump food on Letty.

She doesn't take anything personally because nothing personal happens to her nigga. She doesn't get hate, only simps. Worst thing sharks did is dump sugar on her ffs, literally the easiest shit to clean, you just shake your head around a bit. For Letty they bring up the revenge porn and call her the meanest shit, sharks torture her constantly, dump liquid sticky shit on her, food, scream at her, even the producers belittle her all the time.

Josie can be fucked with, people struggle to find out what she cares about and the production crew doesn't help with this at all.
TTS does a better job of it at this point than any freeloader has aside from Lance throwing Queso down into the basement.

If she got shark attacked or Hassled remotely like Letty has you'd find she can't handle it. That said, I believe she can handle a lot more than Vance and it's not that Josie is weak, it's that Letty is resilient.

But yeah. I mean, it's cringe to hear Josiecels point to things like a shark giving her a plushie and declaring that "omg she's so unbreakable and probably loves my favourite anime uwu" while at the same time not being able to acknowledge that Letty gets treated much differently to the point that it legitimately became a bit for various people to yell directly at her from mere centimeters away from her face.

When Jet made Josie room with Barcode and kept reiterating that Josie was now second tier and needed to be off cam and make Barcode look good and said verbatim "she [Barcode] is better than you" - yes - Josie did just play along and didn't give up any sort of emotional reaction to that. But it's a far cry from having food and trash dumped into her mattress and hidden underneath it and having literal shit and piss placed in her bedroom.

Sound effects are playing in all the rooms while the fish still attempt to sleep. I know Fatty was up earlier attempting to cook (fat lol) and I think I saw Josie go AWOL for a short time, maybe just a bathroom break. She is currently awake and laying in bed playing with one of those toys that isn't an etch-a-sketch but something similar. Jon has slept in a pile of what used to be living room furniture that recalls his sleeping habits when he was a fish.

I sure am glad that production is playing hardball now and making sure the fish get up and active before afternoon....
