How do we know that Jet and co didn't do their due diligence in vetting out Summer's illnesses? Summer seemed fine until she wasn't. Just asking about someone's mental illness doesn't guarantee they will be honest. Summer could have lied about it and Jet has no way to prove otherwise, it's not like there's a database that shows you what mental illnesses someone has. Or hell, she could have told the truth and honestly believed she was stable enough to go on the show. She did have a job and was in school while auditioning, that alone shows she's not so far gone that she can't be independent or that she can't understand and make decisions on her own.
If she was in a psych ward involuntarily beyond the standard 48-72 hours (ie. Court ordered), then it should show on a background check. If it was voluntary commitment each time that she was in there previously, then it likely wouldn't show. If she lied to production, then it would be much harder to sue later on.
