I really get the feeling this time that Sam is actually enjoying this. His character this season is really good. A big problem with season two is that the judge was overshadowed by Sam. Sam is no longer limited by being a gameshow host or an oil man, but he can dive in to the world of fantasy as the duke leaving room for more possibilities. He rarely ever played a proper character last season and as a result the fish couldn’t get into their roles either. Sam has stayed in character so far. It’s only day 3, but hopefully the pace can be maintained and we don’t have another collapse.

They handled the rain better than expected but the real question will be the quality of footwear and socks if the grounds are really muddy. Spend a day walking in mud or wet shoes without good socks and your feet will blister.

I mean if they were smart they’d have extra pairs of socks warmed up and dried near the fire pit, but all things considered the cast and crew are both really indoor types so a lot of elements probably weren’t taken into consideration. Hell every time I see Jimmy try to start a fire I cringe. But I think that’s part of the charm of this season seeing a bunch of people heavily used to being indoors all the time now spending 2 weeks outdoors and all the funny hijinks that go with it.

Hit me with the optimistic flag but I’m going to be surprised if Jimmy doesn’t end up losing eyebrows is they bring out lighter fluid or worse gasoline for the fire. Definitely might get injured using the ax from the way he’s been handling it.

The difference between Sam in season 2 and Sam in season 2.5 is very clear. Sam in season 2 seemed very annoyed and irritable like he knew things had gone to hell and he was brought in to salvage it from Jet. This time he genuinely seems like he's enjoying what he's doing which is great to see.

All the "drama" between him and Trish felt fake as hell, he just whined about how much of a loser he was but also freakin' epic parties and weed. At first I was annoyed that he wasn't understanding they wanted him to buy it back but he Greg'd and managed to come to a deal with Cage to buy his crossbow for him by stealing HIS hat and giving it back as a sign of trust. Love Greg and honestly not gonna be excited to have Vance as a replacement if he doesn't bring enough RP energy to fill in.

Part of that became the charm. It is watching them learn that this is suppose to be playing out a story in real time for entertainment. The harder the fish push the harder the NPCs will push back. While the more they lean into the LARP the greater the reward. But I might have rose colored glasses as this reminds me a lot of getting a new ttrpg group together.
