This is not an new observation at all but the reason why Vance works well as a Fish is he is the nearest thing to a normal person on the show so you get reactions that only a normal person would give. Tay isn't normal, Letty isn't normal, Tai isn't nowma, Jon isn't normal, Jimmy is about as far from normal as you can get. Vance is the straight man and that's a very important role in comedy. You need a normie among freaks.
Jon's autism is funny and cringe at the same time. He takes it way too seriously and his muscles give him so much bravado.

The reason Vance doesn't work (and I'll throw Brian into this category as well) is because he thinks he's better than the other retards on the show. And it might technically be true but it makes him boring as shit to watch.
Let me kind of revise my previous statement as a fish Vance isn't good for content at all he's quite boring but I personally enjoy having someone who is normal among the fish to help keep it grounded. I also might be biased because I'm another white dude in his 20s from the Pacific northwest so I can relate to guy.

Me too, buddy.

Vance was initially a favorite of mine in Season 1; however, his straight man schtick kind of lost its luster. He's just as conniving as Letty, but has like 25% of the conviction so it kind of falls flat.

I was pretty invested in the assassinate Jon plot because it felt like the most interesting thing Vance could've done during this show, but they spent way too long plotting and then Jet neutered the whole plan to keep Jon from sperging out. It's nutty how empathetic Jimmy is; he legitimately can't seem to do anything "evil" and always regrets it when something bad happens. He couldn't let Jon get assassinated, tried to bargain to save him, and is now almost in tears because Jet told him he sprained Taylor's wrist.

I don't understand how all the fish don't seem to understand that what they did to Jon is super shitty. It's not like tricking him is some monumental task, especially if he already thinks you're on his team. They took advantage of a literal retard and are now doing Olympic level mental gymnastics to cope.

Pretty sure some of the other fish are on the spectrum too but Jon is just the most socially inept of the bunch.

Have you seen IASIP? I know it's not what it used to but back then it was hilarious. That show broke this cliche by making all of the main cast assholes. They initially wanted Sweet Dee to be the "straight man" of the show but the actress who played her didn't want to do that. She instead wanted to be funny and join in on the guys shenanigans. Can you imagine if everytime the guys wanted to do something funny and then Dee said "uhm... yeah guys, I don't think we should do that", She would have been just a nagging bitch and the show wouldn't have been as iconic as it is today.

Sure this formula can work with traditional sitcom, but this is Fishtank we're talking about and in Fishtank the best retard win or in Jet's case people he want to hang out with win.

TTS is just brutalizing Jon now. Vertical bar vertical bar vertical bar.

I think this would be true, if the fact that Jon is betraying the group and always intended to do so to become a vampire wasn't obvious to both the Fish and the Viewers. He is just dogshit at hiding it.

The whole reason why they betrayed him in the first place was they blamed Jon for losing the election when it was entirely their fault. The NPCs themselves told them that they lost because they didn’t complete all of their quests. Jimmy was also in the woods when they voted but they didn’t blame him. Jon did nothing wrong.

That's reasonable, but it makes me wonder why they can't pick someone who isn't deliberately trying to mesh with the background as much as possible, again. It's not Season 1 anymore, so he can't pretend like he's doing it to seem cool and get in with the wigger crew. Being outdoors means he's not even able to "entertain the viewers" because he can't hide in his room and talk to TTS.

There is such a thing as a straight man willing to interact harshly, carve out his own plot lines, etc. What Brian is doing this time around, for instance, is way better. Vance is preening himself as always by constantly trying to figure out what production wants to happen as if he weren't a contestant himself. It really doesn't take much, Tai isn't autistic or internet-addled and he's funny enough. I'm not saying he needs to tie a plastic sword to a string and sprain Taylor's wrist with it using full centripetal force, but AB on X must've tipped Xavier off seeing as he put Vance on the spot earlier today, and it was about time.

I noticed during the eating contest that he went "Welp, motherfuckers" under his breath when the fish started talking about maybe voting for him. Think about the presidential debate during S1, how bad he was at improv under pressure then and how much that got under his skin. He was so out of whack because of it that Sam had to give him a pep talk afterwards, so this is something he needs to work on.

Tay made a flamethrower in the morning and Jimmy in the evening.
Here's a clip of Tay's flamethrower for those wondering:

S2 double trouble, Jimmy and Tay are still the power couple.

It was just outright better with Greg in that slot than Vance. It even felt like a better balance as well, two Season 2 cast members, two freeloaders, and two Season 1 cast members. Greg's antics running around as a NPC have been far more entertaining than anything Vance has done in days.
