With a (questionable) W from James Drake, how would you rate season 5 of Fishtank?

I love this season but the binary fish vs vampires premise is lame and one dimensional. It's fun but it ultimately lacks what makes fishtank Fishtank: scheming and distrust of one other. Besides, there's no reason for all the fish to be aligned in a roleplay and it would be far more engaging if they weren't

Here's my new plot that would have made s2.5 so much better:
  • The fish are bank robbers who barely escaped their last heist
  • They settle upon Schitty and try to establish a life under new aliases
  • (Any NPC discovering the real name of the fishies is a lose scenario)
  • Xavier sets upon the fishes as a chance of unseating the Duke
One part of the fishies are cold hearted thieves (letty and Vance?) whose goal is to steal the gold and make a get-away

The second team are cold hard psychopaths (Tay and Jimmy) trying to buy out the entire the town and become lords over the vampires

John, Tai and Greg are clueless and their goal is to survive the duke and retain their stolen goods.


Offer a cash prize to the winning clan. Boom, fish would be more motivated to role play and this show would be much more enjoyable to watch. Thoughts?
 
I like this season fine as it is. Fishtank doesn't have to be a battle royale between the fish all the time; nor does it have to be Hugtank. The competitions themselves can create enough friction between players to keep it entertaining IF the outcome is important enough to the participants. Nebulous monetary prizes that the fish don't get until the end (and may never get at all) clearly aren't a big enough motivation for some of them. Whereas, an immediate reward might spark them to fight a little harder.

For instance, in Season 2, when they were feeding the fish nothing but grits, why didn't they have them compete for a decent meal?!? The losers of that competition would have been butthurt for sure, watching the winner eat a steak dinner while they got grits. They could have monetized that story arc by putting up food as fish toys, too. Make it harder by making the fish toys uncooked food, like an ear of corn or a raw potato that they have to figure out how to cook. The uneven distribution of regular snacks would cause a great deal of tension too. Imagine Shinji or Josie with a big pile of snacks while everyone else is hungry---the rest of the fish would go after the popular ones to get their loot.

They dropped the ball a little by just offering cigarette deliveries imho. They could have made money by buying a bunch of thrift store tshirts and putting "clean shirt" up as a fish toy for $35. The same with socks. How much do you think they'd have made on people buying the girls clean socks if they filmed the ladies giving a shoutout and putting on the socks? I also thought that the "kick Mauro from the show" fish toy was a stroke of genius. They should have a similar one every season for the laziest, least entertaining fish.

One thing that's been a common thread through all 2.5 seasons is resentment towards those who get special privileges. So, give people random special privileges to create tension! I think "Nintendo switch" should be a fish toy on season 3, and the rule is, nobody is allowed to use it except for the fish who it's sent to, or it's taken away. Once the toy is activated, it can't be bought again for 24 hours or until the recipient forfeits it by sharing it against the rules. Having it stolen is a forfeit too, and would create a huge amount of drama to boot.

The only other thing that would help imho is more planning. There needs to be a plan B and a plan C in place to keep the show rolling when there's unexpected events. They should be prepared for injuries and/or unexpected quits to happen, since it's hardly a surprise any more.
 
its funny & ironic that ultimately voo doo mama jujus stand on the schitty cam is basically completely blocked out by the yellow tent given we barely see Trish on camera lol

Yesterday during the letty chat at night in schitty sam actually addressed this & basically said to Trish “we should get you on camera more”. After she agreed he did a 180 and said “we keep you off camera…..uh because the viewers enjoy the mystery of not seeing you” lmao

Trish is a good sport and probably would have been a better main cast choice over Tay or Jimmy for sure.

agreed absolutely. shes incompetent in an endearing way that woulda been great for base camp


when ever anything is happening you can 100% easily hear Trish from within the crowd lol
 
Another thing that made the first week so great was investing more time into other Fish rather than relying on one so often. Think of all the arcs and story lines that have been dropped or put on hiatus.

  • Xayleigh: dropped
  • King Fattius vs Xavier: on extreme hiatus/going nowhere
  • King Xavier: haitus/going nowhere
  • Vampire Jon: dropped
  • Greg vs Duke kino: less present to the point of being Duke and Greg interacting once per day
  • Xavier bringing up another Fish to replace Tayleigh: seemingly dropped
  • Befriend the goblin: dropped
  • A large portion of npc interactions and quests: abandoned/delayed
  • Tj being an apprentice of Xavier: hiatus
  • Duke vs Xavier: hasn’t been touched in days
  • Vampire Tayleigh: going nowhere
And many more. We all know a problem is relying on individual Fish too much and they kind of had a fix at the beginning of the season for this by giving less prominent Fish quests, goals and interactions through npc’s. We have far less of that now so they all just sit around. Remember the first blood tournament? How it involved every Fish, multiple npc’s and was a combo of fucking with them and actual kino that made it feel like they progressed in the story? We don’t have that anymore and it shows. They literally repeated the blood games a second time and the drop in interest is obvious.

i can see the wiggers mismanaging money and not understanding how to properly filling out the irs forms (honestly who can blame them for this?) but i dont think it is money laundering.

while i agree that trish would have made a good main cast member, i disagree about jimmy. jimmy has been the a great main cast member so far, but tay or vance could easily be replaced by her for the betterment of the show. what has she done as an NPC so far? seems she has been kind of wasted potential. another neptunian dropping of the ball.

Jimmy apparently threatened to dox Vance's girlfriend/ex? last night when they were trying to set him up with Creature, I'll post a clip when I see it.
 
I don't know why so many people want to keep blaming Jimmy and Tayleigh for things when Vance does literally nothing all day and Letty does nothing but sleep and play Yugioh.
