He seemed pretty checked out this season and it's not what you want from a host.

To be fair the beginning of this one was lame. These fish were all very boring at the start, hard to blame him when they protested at every single challenge.
Such a shame it ended now, things were just starting to heat up.

Moving across the country might be just the situation needed for Sam to distance himself from the show, let Jet spread his wings and ride high on the galaxy gas clouds with more creative control, for better and for worse.

I could see Sam sticking with it just because the show prints him money. While operating costs aren’t cheap, profit margins are still impressive and it probably nets him more money than his standup tours or grifter podcasts ever did.

It's sad to see Season 4 end so abruptly. I think I saw the concept of the "twist" and it was going to be a victory lap of the first 3 season houses. I don't believe they were actually run out of the Season 1 house, I think it was part of the plan. Spend 2 weeks in each of the houses as a last hurrah, especially with the announcement that Jet and Ben were already working on a permanent set. No way they started that on Friday and already have walk-throughs planned out. They were caught off guard on the Season 2 house being condemned in a day, and probably figured that going back to the Season 1 house or starting back up in the Season 3 house would just put too much heat and risk on the rest of the season.

A couple things:

This season's theme appeared to be "burnt out + scuffed, fuck it: house 1".
It was obviously deliberate from the get go. The trailer alone was crafted to lean into that theme, even the tweet announcing the trailer. It was so noticeable that it appeared to be in the same vein as Season 2's 70's theme or Season 3's reality show theme. The tone was similar to Sam's fake final address to the audience at the end of Season 1, which led me to believe it was a part of the show and not a real sentiment. Sam's lack of character and bored demeanor, production's lax attitude, wearing flip flops, no ball brothers, no Vance or Luca, and everything else.
Season 4 wasn't even on anyone's radar until the trailer, which dropped like 2 weeks before the season.
It strikes me as hugely coincidental that this is all happening at the same time as the twist.

That leaves me with a few possible explanations:

a. There is still some kind of content coming and this was a gaslight, and the "scuffed season" theme is still going to pay off somehow (unlikely, but possible)
b. Sam and Jet knew about the trouble they were facing ahead of time, and were gassed by the time they filmed the trailer. The "scuffed season" theme was actually a result of real frustration dealing with city ordinance or whatever, and Season 4 ended up being a last ditch way to recoup some costs (most likely, with some holes)
c. The "scuffed season" theme was going to have a completely different ending and it just happened to coincide with real world bullshit happening during week 2 (what most people seem to think, I'm not so sure about it)
d. Related to "a.", this season was only meant to make money for Bloodgames 2 and the "scuffed season" theme was to funnel people toward that (highly unlikely, but can't be certain)

Not sure exactly which one it is, but something about the whole situation still doesn't seem 100% clear.
The holes in point B are all the pre-production going in to Bloodgames 2, even after the start of season 4, and the general cohesiveness and quality of the cams, website, and audio. A lot of effort was placed into getting it right.

I think the weirdest thing is how the police seemed so nonchalant about the whole operation in house 1, and didn't want to deal with it at all. You'd think it'd be the opposite if they were experiencing constant legal issues.

Imma still huff the copium and hopium but I suppose we'll see in the coming days.

You could interpret this and Sam's demeanor on the show leaning more towards obligation than passion. I don't think that is unreasonable. Sam has been a good host, even if he can cause issues in the dynamic at times he is mostly a good presence.
I think the show needs Sam, it is so ingrained with MDE and Sam is MDE at the end of the day. If this is just Jet's show I don't think that works.

While I think Sam brings in a lot of viewers, he is not the reason people keep watching. If they said that in season 5, Sam wasn't going to be as involved, I don't think fans would stop watching. Sam was barely involved this season, completely zoned out when on screen, and people were still loving it.

However the show would still need a host with presence, something that Jet doesn't have, and Ben lacks the stature for. I read someone saying that Luke could do it, and I think that with a little bit of practice he probably could.
Sam could still be the main host, but only show up on the first couple of days and then once a week or so, until the last challenge, while the other host takes up his job with the daily activities.

people over on Twitter are coping that because the fish are seemingly still hanging out at the S3 house based off of their IG stories, that they're planning Bloodgames.

Cancelling the show and saying it would take months to bring it back, only to pull a "it's actually alive" twist would be the worst gaslight in the world. Most viewers have probably tuned out the moment they canceled it, and many more will continue to tune out as the conversation ends.

Sam is the CEO of the Fishtank company, he would make loads of money whether he was hosting it or not. The only difference is that they would have to pay for the new host, if there was any.

Big difference in the attitude of police officers showing up to a call and the city/county officials who have the actual problem with the wiggers. Cops aren't going to just change demeanor because their boomer overlords want them to.

Sam, for example, is already cranky enough sometimes when hes only a drive away from home. if hes to show up throughout the entire season, hes either going to be living out of a hotel, which would probably fuck him mentally and carry over onto his show performance, or he'll have to buy a new property nearby, which is a place he can temporarily live, but not quite a "home" where he can get all of his normal work done. we all know hes not committed to live in the basement for the six weeks like the wiggers. i dont know, i just have a hard time believing they're just NOW figuring everything out and that S5 is going to go without its hiccups.

Jet has too much of a childish ego to host. He screams and cries if people dump water on him while drunk, then walks back upstairs an hour later wearing balenciaga crocs and an apple vr headset. Let Ben host it, Ben or Xavier. Ben is funny enough with improve and has no issue being the butt of the joke, Xavier too. Imagine if Famous House was run by Ronnie, starting off with vote-offs and quickly transitioning to triathlon milk chugging as he slowly loses his mind from having to deal with the contestants.

im still confused at the whole "twist" situation. they said there'd be the week 2 twist prior to the show, and then it just so happens they face legal problems and have to move to the S2 house right at the end of week 2. thats why so many people thought the first announcement of the legal problems was a gaslight, because it aligned with there being a twist and gave the fish a reason to think they had to leave the house. but given that the legal problems were real, was this all some big coincidence, or did they know going into the season that they were going to get kicked out and thought they'd be just fine moving into the S2 house for whatever reason? that sounds like a stretch and extremely risky. or was the twist simply the fallout theme, and they had no plans of leaving the S1 house until they were forced to? is there any info about this or is it all speculation?

also, wtf was the deal with the stripes. unfortunately i think most of this will go unanswered and S5 wont pick back up on it.

I think Sam is needed. His personal sense of humor is still some of the funniest shit in all of comedy, and considering he doesn't even get to shine in his own content anymore due to the number of cooks in the kitchen, it's great to see him bring his style to the show.

That being said, he does NOT need to be the host every single day, that's what wipes him out every single season. I think he should be a guest host that shows up like Frank and shakes things up in a big way. He would run the season's biggest challenges and create chaos in the house, destroy things, and then lift the vibe when the fish are at their lowest via a house party and some big meal or something before exiting.

The entire rest of the season, Ben could take over as the day to day host and create a whole character for it. Maybe a bombastic Great Clown Pagliacci-style character who goes through wild mental breakdowns or something like that. Jet would be the cold director. They could even just hire an actor for any of this.

i dont outright hate the idea, but i think Sam's presence in the house is important. his words wont carry as much weight if hes just appearing through a TV. hes a big, imposing dude. Ben and especially Jet cant fulfill that role, no one will take them as seriously. and lets be honest, a lot of Fishtank fans are MDE fans who might stop watching if Sam goes. he brings a certain type of humor and energy to the house that i dont think can be replaced.

if Sam was dropping out, it would've made sense to mention it in the address last night but we also know that they're incompetent and wouldnt tell us something like that until an hour before S5 starts. but its also hard to see him moving across the country and leaving his other projects behind for about 12 weeks out of the year. hes even said he wants his main focus to be The Sam Hyde Show.

I'm thinking that the "clean" theme of the show is based on how Season 2 and Season 3 fizzled hard towards the end with no breaths of air for production. They always talked about how much effort Season 2 was and I'm sure the famous house everything for Season 3 was even more effort. I merely think it was a power creep fix, because they were about to build a giant space themed season which would have required SO MUCH. I'm sure in the middle they threw up their hands of the potential amount of money spent and effort to just realize they need to just cut it back and reap the benefits of how the cast, not the theming makes the money.
